Woman storms out of husband's birthday dinner after his sick infertility joke

Daily Mirror2 days ago
The couple, who have been married for five years, have been struggling to start a family together - making the husband's 'joke' all the more upsetting for his wife
A woman has spoken of her devastation after her husband made a joke about her infertility in front of their friends.

In a now-deleted post on Reddit, the 29-year-old revealed that she and her husband of five years had been trying to have a baby together for some time - but that she was struggling to conceive.

She took to Reddit to explain what had happened and reach out for advice. It comes after a woman claimed 'I regret marrying an older man, one part of our history has given me the ick'.

The wife wrote: "Last weekend, I organised a small birthday dinner for him with close friends and family. Everything was going well until someone asked when we were planning to start a family. Before I could even respond, my husband laughed and said, 'Well, if her ovaries ever wake up from their nap, maybe next year.'
"Everyone laughed. I didn't. I just sat there frozen and then excused myself to the restroom," she continued. "I ended up texting my sister to pick me up and went home. He came home a couple of hours later furious that I 'ruined his birthday' and was 'embarrassing him in front of his friends.'" He also told her that she "needs to learn how to take a joke and stop making everything about me".
The woman said his joke had "cut deep," especially "since he knows how hard this journey has been for me". And the Reddit community were quick to show their support.

"How is a joke about your ovaries and your fertility not about you? Instead of saying sorry. Instead of acknowledging he hurt you. He chose to blame you? Good thing is, your ovaries are napping and you are not pregnant. So take this time to see if this man is who you really want to procreate with," one member told her, via People.
A second wrote: "It was a terribly insensitive comment that he made in front of an audience at the expense of someone he is supposed to love. This is a clear indication that he doesn't respect you.
"It would be very difficult for me to imagine risking my health, sanity, and a 20 year connection to a man like that by having his child. Maybe some marriage counseling first. You should always pay attention to things said in jokes, anger, or drunk. It will tell you exactly what someone really thinks."

It comes after a woman reached out for advice after discovering her husband had been making inappropriate jokes to a female colleague.
In a post on Mumsnet, the woman fumed: "My husband has a female friend at work that he is close to. They call on Zoom, often text outside of work, and meet up for lunch (only during work hours apparently). She is also married with kids and is very attractive.
"I have seen some messages and they seem flirty. He's bragged about his baggage size and joked about her fancying him although she's never said she has. I told him it was bang out of order and he said it was harmless, but that he would create more boundaries with her. This was a while back now.
"Recently, she's been off sick for a while and he messages her regularly and calls her up at least once a week, and their conversations last over an hour sometimes. He's telling me to relax and that he's doing nothing wrong, that they're good friends and as I also have male friends, I should be more understanding."
The woman asked for advice from other Mumsnet users as she said she felt as though her husband was "gaslighting" her and denying that he "has feelings for this woman".
Commenters on the post were quick to side with her. One person said: "It's very disrespectful behaviour, there is no need for him to carry this on knowing it's bothering you. Tell him to stop this friendship or lose his wife."

Brooklyn Beckham gives insight into secret vow renewal with Nicola Peltz

Brooklyn Beckham has shared details of his 'really cute, really fun' vow renewal with wife Nicola Peltz. 26-year-old Brooklyn and actress Nicola, 30, first tied the knot in 2022 during a lavish ceremony attended by his parents, Victoria and David Beckham. Family relations have apparently become more strained since then, with rumours of an ongoing feud between the couple and his family – including his brothers, Cruz and Romeo. No matter the drama, Brooklyn and Nicola found time to 'celebrate their love' with an intimate vow renewal this month. Confirming the news, a source told Metro: 'This is a moment to celebrate their love and commitment, and to create a meaningful memory together.' Following the discreet ceremony, Brooklyn has given an insight into the big day. Speaking to People, Brooklyn said: 'It was beautiful. We just wanted a really beautiful experience – a really cute memory. 'To be honest, I could renew my vows every single day with her. I think the most important thing that someone can do is find that person that they're going to spend the rest of their life with. 'It definitely shapes you as a person. It was really, really cute. It was really fun.' This comes amid growing speculation that Brooklyn has become increasingly estranged from his family over recent months. Brooklyn's family have yet to address this latest milestone in Brooklyn's life, with tensions growing after he was absent from David's 50th birthday bash this year. The photographer and former model also failed to acknowledge his football legend father's knighthood in June. Brooklyn proposed to Nicola in 2020, after only eight months together. Two years later, and they were married at Nicola's family estate in Palm Beach, Florida. Since getting married, Brooklyn adopted her name into his own, becoming publicly recognised as Brooklyn Peltz Beckham. Rumours of a rift between the families began soon after, amid reports of tension between Nicola and former Spice Girl Victoria, 51. Earlier this month, it was revealed that Brooklyn no longer follows brothers Cruz, 20, and Romeo on social media – while they too have unfollowed his wife. According to an insider for The Sun: 'Brooklyn had no idea until he read about it online. It's possible Romeo and Cruz blocked them, which would make it appear as him no longer following the brothers. More Trending 'He and Nicola certainly didn't unfollow them or block them – they're as confused as anyone else. The first they heard about it was when it was being reported on,' the publication's source reported. However, his father did appear to extend an 'olive branch' this weekend, as Brooklyn took to Instagram to share his spaghetti carbonara recipe. His controversial take on the Italian classic was slammed by many – including celebrity chef Aldo Zilli, who accused him of 'jumping on the cooking bandwagon.' In what some have taken as a show of public support, David quietly liked his son's post. The first sign of a peace offering between the warring Beckhams, perhaps? Got a story? We asked a deliciously savage barista to rank celeb coffee orders you're copying

For many of us, caffeine is a lifeline, helping us face early starts or back-to-back meetings. Like a miracle in a mug, a hot cup of coffee can give us the boost we need to power through the day. And for celebrities, it's no different. Whether they're juggling long hours on set or non-stop promo tours, plenty of stars rely on a caffeine fix to keep going. Take Pedro Pascal, for example. He went viral last year for his (quite frankly, chaotic) Starbucks order: six espresso shots over ice. The Internet's daddy and his naughty little knees were clearly running on more than charm. But do celebs actually influence how the rest of us take our coffee? According to Sonali Saujani, former barista and co-founder of C ustom Barista Equipment, the answer is yes. Speaking on behalf of Coffee Friend , she tells Metro: 'The biggest trend I'm seeing in the UK right now is matcha; it's the drink to order. We're even seeing dedicated matcha bars popping up. I think a lot of that comes down to celebrity fans like Hailey Bieber and Bella Hadid. 'Celebs have a huge influence. While I've never had someone walk in and say they want a drink because a celeb orders it, it's clear they help set trends. Especially when it goes viral on social media.' It also turns out that, in celeb-land, ordering off-menu is the norm. But Sonali says you don't need an A-lister's status to tweak your order. 'Baristas don't usually mind off-menu orders, just be polite! Especially if they don't have all the ingredients. A good barista is often just excited to show off their latte art… as long as you don't stir it before admiring it!' Inspired by Pedro, we took a closer look at the world of celebrity coffee orders and asked Sonali whether it's a brew-tiful choice or if it leaves a bitter taste in her mouth. Because celebrities may hold influence, but that doesn't mean their taste is always on point… Coffee order: Quad espresso in a Venti cup with extra ice and six shots Rating: 1/10 The internet daddy couldn't hide his wild coffee order from the world. Eagle-eyed fans zoomed in on his Starbucks receipt and found the Last of Us star ordered SIX shots of espresso. Just how much of an energy boost did he need? 'This order confuses me,' Sonali admits. 'Even if you love coffee, six shots with no sweetener or milk would pack a serious punch. I mean, I know Pedro Pascal is working overtime in a lot of people's minds, but that's a serious amount of caffeine right there!' Coffee order: Grande dark red eye Rating: 6/10 A former barista dished on Reddit about the celebs they had served, and revealed that the star's order is just as extreme as his X-Men workout regime. 'A grande dark red eye is a drip coffee with an espresso shot added in,' Sonali explains. 'He's basically ordering a coffee with extra coffee. A good barista can make this a nice drink, which is why I gave it a 6/10, but it will be strong, and if the coffee is not great quality, it can just taste very bitter.' Coffee order: Venti hot mocha with whipped cream Rating: 8/10 Sonali says: 'I give this order a high rating as it's a delicious choice for someone with a sweet tooth. But if this is your go-to order, I don't believe you like coffee. This order says to me that Lana is just ordering a hot chocolate with a bit of caffeine. 'I firmly believe that anyone who drinks a mocha is still a child at heart, so maybe this displays the softer side to Lana. It's not a healthy drink but it is a fun one.' Coffee order: Hot, tall white chocolate mocha with whipped cream Rating: 7/10 Kim left no questions over her coffee order, revealing to fans what she orders from Starbucks during a Q&A on X. 'For someone so health-conscious, Kim's order shocked me,' Sonali admits. 'This is a calorific drink and super sweet. You'll need to drink a tall glass of water after this. But if you're a sweet tooth, it's not a bad shout. Depends on what you want from your hot drink.' Coffee order: Black coffee with 14 Splendas Rating: -5/10 Clearly Chris Pratt has a sweet tooth, as the Guardians of the Galaxy star revealed to Ellen DeGeneres that his go-to Starbucks order is a black coffee with 14 Splendas. Yep, 14. 'That's giving 'I'm healthy because I don't consume sugar, and I pretend to like coffee, but I actually find it so bitter I need to add all the sweetener in the world to it',' Sonali insists. 'This order would make me roll my eyes! On the outside, it looks like a healthy drink, but sweeteners can be so bad for you, and Splenda is known for being sweeter than sugar! Add a couple of Splendas, sure, but 14? That's far too much.' Coffee order: Grande caramel nonfat latte Rating: 10/10 The singing sensation revealed her favourite drink to order when she previously teamed up with Starbucks, and Sonali firmly approved. 'Our simple, yet effective Queen! This order doesn't surprise me in the slightest because while Taylor has the most complex of sets on her Eras Tour, she's a simple woman at heart. Caffeine, check! Taste, check!' Coffee order: Triple grande skim wet cappuccino Rating: 7/10 A former LA barista dished on his celeb clients, and revealed that the actress takes her coffee seriously. While 'dry' might sound unusual, in coffee terms it simply means less foam. According to Sonali, the drink tastes great, but the order itself is overly complicated. 'She could just order a triple-shot flat white and be done with it,' Sonali says. 'A cappuccino is basically the same, just with less foam. But at least she's drinking a proper coffee, and not disguising the flavour with tons of sweeteners.' Coffee order: Venti iced matcha green tea latte with coconut milk More Trending Rating: 8/10 A former barista revealed on X that she had served the actress this very order, and Sonali says it's a great balance of flavours. View More » 'This isn't a coffee,' she explains. 'But matcha is a big trend, and coconut milk would help add sweetness to level out the bitterness of matcha. This would be simple, but effective.' 'I took a DNA test and discovered devastating truth my family hid for 24 years'

A woman shared her heartache after discovering a family secret her family had been hiding for 24 long years – and now she doesn't know what to do moving forward While some parents choose to tell their children about their adoption from day one, others keep the information from them until they're 'old enough to understand it'. That's exactly what one mum decided to do after adopting her daughter as an infant - but the 'secret' ended up causing issues later in their lives. ‌ The daughter secretly took a DNA test with 23andMe after realising things in her life "weren't adding up" and noticing her mum's " weird" behaviour whenever she'd ask her about her early years. She said on Reddit: "Growing up I was always suspicious of my situation. I sort of look like my parents but I'd never seen a picture of my mum pregnant, she got really defensive when shows about teenage pregnancies or infertility would come on TV, I'd found adoption magazines in the garage as a kid. ‌ "And the one thing I never really settled on was my mother had fertility trouble, was in her late 40s, and somehow took a trip while super pregnant and I ended up born in another state in a random town? ‌ "It never really added up but if I ever talked to friends about it they said I was crazy. So I took a DNA test last year, at aged 24, to lay my suspicions to rest." She came to learn she is nearly 100% English, Irish and Scottish - and she says her parents have 0% of these regions in their DNA. The woman added: "My father passed away a few years back without ever telling me. And when I confronted my mom about being Irish, her response was literally, 'Oh that's kind of weird isn't it...' ‌ "She'd been denying it and keeping up this story for so long that it really made me laugh she'd still try to keep it up somehow." After confronting her, she says her mum planned to tell her after she graduated college, then when her father became ill, then on a family holiday - but she backed out of all of these. She said: "According to my mum, my bio parents were just college kids who didn't want a kid at the time. ‌ "She showed me this suitcase from the closet with my adoption papers and one old picture of the woman and some general information. "Then when I went to get my phone she immediately closed the suitcase and hid it again. She didn't want me telling my friends I was adopted or taking down any of the information. ‌ "I didn't feel like getting into an argument over it so I let it go and didn't remember enough of the information to be able to look anything up really." But then, she received a notification from her biological mum on 23andMe simply saying she would answer any questions she might have if she ever wanted to reach out. Seeking support online, she said: "I've been thinking about it a lot, though I have nothing to say. I found her on LinkedIn and it turns out I have three half sisters. ‌ "I also looked for my bio father, since I have his full name and now college name, on LinkedIn and I'm pretty sure I found him too. "But he specifically wrote he'd like to pretend I never existed on the adoption papers. So I'm not trying to go down that road, just wanted to see what he looks like. "I just don't know what I want to do with this information. It was a lot all at once and I can't tell my mom any of this or she'll lose it. I try to talk to friends but they mostly seem uncomfortable about it." Commenting on her post, one user said: "Your story sounds exactly like mine! I found out two years ago at age 25!" Another user added: "Respond to your birth mother exactly like you told us. You just found out. You are confused and don't know what you want at this time but are not against being in contact with her. "But do respond so she isn't wondering. She probably took the test to specifically find you. It is pretty important to get a family medical history from both of them."
