Ellen DeGeneres says Donald Trump is the reason she left the US

CNN2 days ago
Ellen DeGeneres has confirmed that she decided to leave the United States because of the re-election of President Donald Trump, as well as addressing the allegations of a toxic work culture at her former show, according to British media reports.
The comedian and her wife, actress Portia de Rossi, moved to the United Kingdom ahead of the US election in November.
They bought what they initially thought would be a 'part-time house,' DeGeneres told a crowd at the Everyman Theatre in the southern English town of Cheltenham on Sunday, according to reports by the BBC and the Guardian.
However, 'We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, 'He got in',' she said. 'And we're like, 'We're staying here.''
CNN has reached out to the White House and DeGeneres' representatives for comment.
DeGeneres' remarks come a week after she showed support on social media for talk show host Rosie O'Donnell, whose US citizenship Trump has threatened to revoke.
DeGeneres went on to enthuse about the English countryside to the crowd in Cheltenham, saying, 'It's absolutely beautiful,' the BBC reported. 'We're just not used to seeing this kind of beauty. The villages and the towns and the architecture – everything you see is charming and it's just a simpler way of life.'
'It's clean. Everything here is just better – the way animals are treated, people are polite. I just love it here,' added the 67-year-old, who in May shared a humorous video on Instagram of herself riding a lawnmower on her British estate.
'We moved here in November, which was not the ideal time, but I saw snow for the first time in my life. We love it here. Portia flew her horses here, and I have chickens, and we had sheep for about two weeks,' she continued.
The comedian and LGBTQ activist also announced that she and De Rossi would get married again in the UK if the US reversed its legalization of gay marriage, adding that being gay in Hollywood is 'still a problem. People are still scared.'
Referring to the US Southern Baptists' overwhelming endorsement of a ban on gay marriage in June, DeGeneres said: 'The Baptist Church in America is trying to reverse gay marriage. They're trying to literally stop it from happening in the future and possibly reverse it. Portia and I are already looking into it, and if they do that, we're going to get married here.'
The former daytime talk show host, who wrapped up 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' in 2022 after facing allegations of a toxic work culture two years prior, also opened up about her show ending in an 'unpleasant way.'
DeGeneres, who last year announced that she was 'done' after her Netflix special and had 'got kicked out of show business for being mean,' said, 'No matter what, any article that came up, it was like, 'She's mean', and it's like, how do I deal with this without sounding like a victim or 'poor me' or complaining? But I wanted to address it.'
'It's as simple as, I'm a direct person, and I'm very blunt, and I guess sometimes that means that… I'm mean?' she continued.
The comedian added that it is 'hurtful' to her that she does not think she can say anything to get rid of that reputation. 'I hate it. I hate that people think that I'm that because I know who I am and I know that I'm an empathetic, compassionate person,' the BBC reported her as saying.

No kiss cam at Oasis shows? Why that might not matter for Toronto fans having an affair

After a viral video exposed an apparent affair between an American tech CEO and the company's head of human resources, spectators may have privacy concerns when attending concerts or sporting events. But you might not encounter a kiss cam at an Oasis concert, according to frontman Liam Gallagher. According to a recent report in People Magazine , the English rock band isn't a fan of the kiss cam. Reporting on a July 20 concert in Manchester, U.K., people noted Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher told audience members not to worry. At the Manchester show, Gallagher announced: 'Do we have any lovebirds in the house? Don't worry, we ain't got any of that Coldplay, snidey f———camera s—-. It doesn't matter to us who you're f——— mingling with … None of our f——— business.' Oasis is scheduled to play two shows at Toronto's Rogers Stadium Aug. 24 and 25. Part of the band's 'Oasis Live '25' reunion tour, the Toronto shows are the only Canadian dates on the tour's North American leg. Both shows are sold out, according to Ticketmaster . Metroland reached out to Live Nation for a statement on whether the Toronto shows might feature a kiss cam. We will update this article when we receive a response. Last week, Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and the company's head of human resources Kristin Cabot were caught in an apparent affair during a Coldplay concert in the Boston, Mass. area. A kiss cam video showing the pair engaged in an awkward embrace went viral on social media, garnering millions of views on TikTok. During the video, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin declares, 'Oh, look at these two. Uh-oh. Either they're having an affair or they're just very shy.' Regardless of whether a concert or sporting event has a kiss cam, privacy in public is seldom guaranteed, especially in a venue of 50,000 people, a Toronto-based family lawyer says. In a recent interview with Metroland, Russell Alexander said there's no expectation of privacy if you're in a large audience with someone other than your spouse. 'You may think you're anonymous because you're among so many people, but everybody's got a cellphone, everybody's recording the concert — who knows,' said Alexander. 'They may be posting it on social media. Even if it wasn't the kiss cam, somebody could have posted the song on social media and they could have been part of that frame. So I think the takeaway is be mindful of privacy when you're in public spaces.' As stated previously, Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding. Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability, and recently, that standard was not met. Andy Byron has tendered his resignation, and… Astronomer, a tech firm specializing in open-source and commercial products, released a statement on social media confirming Byron has resigned as CEO. Cabot was placed on leave from her job, according to a report in the New York Post . The newspaper said Cabot appears to be married to Privateer Rum owner Andrew Cabot. In a July 21 update posted to LinkedIn , interim Astronomer CEO Pete DeJoy shared how the company is moving on from the kiss cam incident. On a positive note, DeJoy said more people have heard of Astronomer following the kiss cam video. The company powers data and artificial intelligence strategies, including in-game analytics for sports teams. It also provides solutions for customer support chatbots and AI training for self-driving cars. 'The events of the past few days have received a level of media attention that few companies — let alone startups in our small corner of the data and AI world — ever encounter. The spotlight has been unusual and surreal for our team and, while I would never have wished for it to happen like this, Astronomer is now a household name,' DeJoy noted. DeJoy added Astronomer has never shied away from a challenge. 'We're here because Astronomer is built by people who live to solve hard problems, stay late to fix what's broken, and care deeply about doing things the right way,' he said. DeJoy thanked company employees for their 'resilience and commitment to building something great' and customers for their trust. 'We won't let you down,' DeJoy added. Error! The Clipse Have Surprising Reaction To Justin Bieber Seemingly Shading Their New Album

Justin Bieber shook up the internet when he posted an Instagram story dissing Clipse after both acts released their new albums on the same day. The Virginia duo recently reacted to the supposed shade. 'I don't know if you clicking something, don't know if you reading it or not,' Malice said during their appearance on Big Boy's Neighborhood. 'I mean, people can be very specific if they want to be, but what does it mean to me? Nothing. We doing what we doing out here. The fans love it, you bringing the music back. Real hip-hop.' The 52-year-old resolved that he would give Bieber the 'benefit of the doubt.' Pusha T added that the Canadian singer likely didn't fully look at the post and was more focused on it being 'favorable' toward his album. 'We've all done it,' he said. Ultimately, the Let God Sort Em Out rappers were more focused on people's approval of their latest LP in comparison to a blockbuster release from the pop superstar. 'This is street hip-hop,' he stated. 'Look how far streethip-hop has [come]. Like look at what it's being measured up against.' Watch below. The 31-year-old surprised the world when he announced his new album SWAG would come out two weeks ago (Friday, July 11). Many people theorized that Def Jam was looking to overshadow their former artists' highly anticipated reunion album, and the assumed tension grew in fans' eyes when the 'Daisies' singer shared a particular Instagram story. Kerwin Frost tagged him in a post praising his new effort, writing, 'Justice is served @lilbieber emptied the clip. THIS IS THE ONLY ALBUM THAT MATTERS RIGHT NOW. This album is way better then the @clipse. @clipse is for bitter grown men who collect kaws dolls and shop at kith and union.' Biebs reposted the story, and many people did not recognize that it was a repost, causing more discourse on the internet. Nonetheless, Clipse are riding a wave of positivity as Let God Sort Em Out debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and sold 118,000 album-equivalent units in its first week. Bieber's SWAG debuted at No. 2 and sold 163,000 units. Listen to both albums below. More from What Are Clipse's First-Week Sales Projections For Their New LP 'Let God Sort Em Out'?
