‘Manik Sarkar tried his best to defame state govt': Tripura CM Manik Saha reacts to ex-CM's allegations of feud between allies BJP, Tipra Motha
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha Thursday responded to former chief minister and veteran CPI(M) leader Manik Sarkar's claim that ruling allies BJP and Tipra Motha were sparring with each other to gain political mileage ahead of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections, which are likely to be held next year. 'Time will speak for itself. You have to wait for the time. So, whenever there is a problem, we resolve it. Our former CM tried to say something else… Politically, he tried his best to defame this government and claim that we are not transparent…' Tripura CM Saha said. Citing the termination of 10,323 government school teachers by the Supreme Court during the erstwhile Left Front regime, Saha said, 'So far, employment is concerned, there is transparency. We are giving these job offers transparently. They didn't have the guts.' On Wednesday, Sarkar had also said, 'The BJP aims to expand its base, and the Tipra Motha is exerting pressure tactics to force them (BJP) to depend on them. All the public disputes are because of this. This is all about bargaining power.' He added that the BJP itself created the Tipra Motha, and that it was openly admitted by Lok Sabha MP and former chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb. Speaking on the tripartite Tiprasa Accord, Sarkar said the Tipra Motha leaders were misleading the people. 'They keep on changing their stand and raising new demands. But people have begun to look through their strategies. They would be isolated politically sooner or later,' the CPI(M) leader said. Sarkar's statement came in the wake of the alleged attack by Tipra Motha workers on BJP supporters in the Asharambari area of Khowai district last Sunday. Blaming Tipra Motha for the incident, CM Saha had said in a social media post, 'Strongly condemn the violent & undemocratic attack by TIPRA Motha party workers during Hon'ble PM Narendra Modi Ji's #MannKiBaat programme at Asharambari. Several BJP karyakartas injured, 3 undergoing treatment at GB Hospital. I visited the hospital, instructed doctors to provide best care & directed police to take strict action against perpetrators. Such disgraceful acts won't be tolerated.' Tipra Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma had himself gone 'Live' on Facebook and criticised his party workers for the violence.

Faced allegations of disproportionate assets in past: Court orders inquiry over cop in Malegaon probe accused of ‘planting evidence'
A special court on Thursday while acquitting seven in the Malegaon 2008 blast case said that it was recommending an inquiry into the possible 'planting' of evidence by an ATS officer in 2008. The officer, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had said, was seen in the home of accused Sudhakar Chaturvedi on November 3, 2008 by two Army officers. The court on Thursday said that the house search 'tilted towards planting' and the ATS claimed that RDX traces found at the house could not be relied upon. The officer, Shekhar Bagde, now assistant commissioner of police (ACP), is no stranger to controversy. The officer currently posted as ACP with Thane police has had BJP party workers in Kalyan protest against him demanding an enquiry into 'significant assets' owned by Bagde. On Thursday, Special Judge AK Lahoti while pronouncing the order said that the copy of the judgement will be sent to DGP Maharashtra, DG ATS and DG NIA, recommending an inquiry. The judge also sought that authorities look into manipulation of medical certificates of six of the 101 persons injured in the blast and certificates issued by unauthorised medical practitioners, 'at the instance of the ATS'. Earlier, the Supreme Court order of August 2017 while granting bail to Lt Col Prasad Purohit mentioning the role of Assistant Police Inspector Bagde said, '..During scrutiny of the proceedings of the Court of Inquiry (CoI) carried out by the Army, a different story of assembling of IED in the House of Sudhakar Chaturvedi (A-11) came to light. During re-examination of the witnesses by the NIA who deposed before the Court of Inquiry (CoI), it was revealed that they suspiciously found API Bagde of ATS in the house of A-11 when A-11 was not present in the house…On considering the facts narrated by the witnesses, the question arises here as to why API Bagde visited the house of A-11 in his absence..' During his deposition as witness, Bagde denied all the allegations and said that the claims were made by the accused as an afterthought to save themselves. When contacted by The Indian Express, Bagde refused to speak on the issue. Bagde who hails from Nashik first hit the news in June 2023, when he was the senior inspector of the Manpada police station in Thane. While the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shinde Shiv Sena were in alliance, the local BJP functionaries of Kalyan Dombivli had passed a resolution that till the time Bagde was not transferred, they would not help the Shinde Sena candidate. Bagde had filed a molestation case against a local BJP functionary which the local party workers claimed was fake and had protested outside the police station. Following this Bagde had reportedly been sent on leave for a few days. A week later the then Leader of Opposition Ajit Pawar had sought an enquiry into the assets allegedly owned by Bagde. Pawar had claimed that Bagde owned a three-storey commercial property in Deolali, Nashik, as well as a flat in Sumangal Residency and shops and commercial plots in Tirumala Heights. Bagde has also allegedly invested in Riddhi Siddhi Construction and owns a flat in Mahavir Amrut Society in Sanpada, Navi Mumbai. Additionally, Pawar claimed that Bagde possesses agricultural land in Pandurli and Igatpuri. Expressing astonishment at the extent of Bagde's property ownership, Pawar questioned how a police officer could amass such wealth. Pawar cited complaints filed against Bagde by numerous individuals and insisted that an investigation be launched into Bagde's assets. Later, NCP leader Jitendra Awhad too had tweeted allegations against Bagde alleging that the property list read out by Pawar was not even 20 per cent of the total property owned by Bagde. Bagde has in the past been awarded the Kendriya Grihmantri Dakshata Padak and DG medal and has been part of some important crime detections.
