Netflix's most expensive reality show axed after just one series
Netflix has cancelled one of its most expensive reality shows after just one series on the streamer. Reality competition Battle Camp - which saw stars from other Netflix shows compete in challenge - has reportedly been canned after the show 'didn't meet Netflix's expectations'.
The show landed on Netflix in April this year, with stars from Love is Blind, Cheer, Too Hot to Handle, Selling The OC and The Circle competing in teams for the chance to win $250,000 (£187,000). Presented by former NFL player Taylor Lewan, Battle Camp aired across 10 episodes but received a mixed reception from fans and critics.
A TV insider told The Sun: "There were so many individuals taking part in the show, with 18 contestants in total. The fact that they all charged a fee to take part and that it was filmed on location, made it unusually costly."
They added that the format relied on multiple challenges, each costing a lot of money. "It was an expense Netflix would have been happy to shoulder, except it didn't meet their expectations."
While they claim that the streamer wanted to create a "Netflix reality universe" with the show, viewers didn't think it was "out of this world". The Mirror has reached out to Netflix comment.
The latest cancellation news comes after Holly Willoughby's Celebrity Bear Hunt was reportedly axed by Netflix back in June as a cost-cutting measure. A source told The Sun: "The overall cost of travel, insurance and, of course, securing big-name talent proved too dear.
"It was completely untenable even after they looked at filming closer to home, and making more of a budget show."
The likes of Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas and the Spice Girls ' Mel B took part in the show while rapper Big Zuu emerged as the show's first and only champion. Meanwhile, presenter Steph McGovern and Saturdays singer Una Healy were the show's runners-up.
Earlier this week, Netflix shared more details about the upcoming Heartstopper movie, which will bring the hit series to an end. The streamer revealed that the movie title has now been confirmed as Heartstopped Forever.
Its stars Kit Connor and Joe Locke revealed that filming had wrapped on the movie on social media, with Joe sharing an image of them both with the caption: "Bye Charlie x. Thank you."
Netflix has previously released a synopsis for the film which states: "Nick and Charlie are inseparable, but with Nick preparing to leave for university and Charlie finding new independence at school, the reality of a long-distance relationship begins to weigh on them.
"Doubts take hold, and their relationship faces its biggest challenge yet. Meanwhile, their friends are also navigating the ups and downs of love and friendship, confronting the bittersweet challenges of growing up and moving on. Can first loves really last forever?'

Cancel your weekend plans to binge Sheridan Smith's 'outstanding' Netflix drama
It looks like Netflix subscribers are discovering a Sheridan Smith crime drama that first aired on ITV in 2012. Mrs Biggs is climbing up the streamer's ranking of the platform's top 10 TV shows – making a convincing argument for a mid-August weekend watch. Smith – who has so many British dramas to her name it can be easy to let one slip – stars in this five-part drama, which is based on the true story of the Great Train Robbery. The drama focuses on the relationship between Charmian, played by Smith, and Ronnie Biggs, played by Daniel Mays. It follows everything from their first lovestruck meeting and the fateful 1963 train heist, to its aftermath and their eventual divorce in 1976, after Biggs fathered a child in Brazil. We see the petty crook meet his soon-to-be wife on, of all places, a train. 'The future is full of possibilities,' he tells her. 'The past will only drag you down.' With that, the Biggs couple set off on a crime spree before they eventually decide to settle down for a quiet married life. That is, until the 'one last job' pops up in the chance to join the train robbers. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Some labelled the drama a sanitised version of events, but it was inspired by a letter Biggs sent to his wife following the death of their son Nicholas. Biggs's former wife Charmian was also a consultant on the show. The show's writer and executive producer Jeff Pope said he wanted to set out a romantic tale, rather than a romanticised one. 'We show Ron as perhaps a little too wilfully optimistic and Charmian is the cold voice of reason throughout. It absolutely would be a danger of a piece like this to romanticise it,' he told The Guardian. 'It will get laughed out of court if it's a slushfest. In the first episode, they steal, he strikes her, we acknowledge the fact he had a criminal record; further down the line, Charmian has an abortion by another man. We don't pull back, we don't flinch.' Praised at the time of its release for the quality of the acting and the excitement of the episodes, TV viewers have shared their positive reception over the years, as Mrs Biggs has been available on ITVX as well as Netflix. Taking to X, @AshWoody90 praised: 'Mrs Biggs on Netflix, possibly one the best things I have ever watched.' More Trending @elliot_gonzalez commended the creative partnership between the show's writer and star, writing: 'Jeff Pope and Sheridan Smith should always work together. Mrs Biggs, The Widower, Cilla and now The Moorside. All outstanding work.' @TVChatty wrote: 'All week I've been watching Mrs Biggs on ITV3. Why did I not watch it first time? Fantastic story and great acting. Really enjoyed it.' @lizcurran echoed: 'Sheridan Smith is wonderful in Mrs Biggs – she is one of my favourite actors. Utterly mesmerising – always.' Mariah Carey branded 'support act' as she's upstaged by Volodymyr Zelensky
Mariah Carey might be one of the biggest singers in the world with a huge entourage, but she was left baffled when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky upstaged her Mariah Carey was left shocked when another mega-famous guest arrived at the same hotel as her. The American pop icon has been in the UK promoting her latest album, Here for It All, after her headline set at Brighton Pride. But while she's arguably the biggest diva, it appears that somebody else managed to outweigh her entourage. The 56-year-old, known for her five-octave vocal range, has been staying at a very swanky London hotel, famous for its A-list guests, but one person in particular managed to leave Mariah's team looking very small. While the New Yorker was staying at the 5-star hotel, which is said to have cost her a staggering £20,000 per night, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky also arrived, with a huge police security detail, including a motorcade of blacked-out cars and round-the-clock security. It comes after photos show Holly Willoughby letting her hair down in white swimsuit on sun soaked holiday. Mark Wright shares big 'disappointment' after holiday with baby Palma and Michelle Keegan Inside Stacey Solomon and Joe Swash's luxurious £30k family holiday to 'second home' A source has now said that Zelensky's entourage "made Mariah look tiny in comparison". The singer is known for having a huge team follow her every move, including somebody who holds a wind machine when she's taking pictures. They went on to tell The Sun:"She was well and truly outranked on the luxury ladder. Mariah is used to being number one wherever she goes – but this time, she was very much the support act. Zelensky's security detail made it clear this wasn't your average celebrity check-in, and he was given the royal treatment during his stay." Love Is Blind star SLAMMED by fans as it's revealed controversial star had baby on the way during filming
A LOVE Is Blind star has been slammed by fans, after it was revealed that the controversial star had a baby on the way during filming. As the Netflix pods opened for 30 new singletons to try their luck at finding someone to marry, one star has got tongues wagging more than most. 4 4 Patrick Justus, a human design coach, caught fan attention after telling people that he uses his spleen to guide him, when it comes to finding a romantic connection. But now, fans have slammed the reality star on social media, after a TikToker claimed he had a baby on the way while on the show. A creator named Story Time With Rikkii said in the video: 'Patrick had a baby on the way and didn't tell no body about it.' She then shared a photo of Patrick and the baby mum together while covering the woman's face. The TikTok went on: 'She was pregnant with his child when he went on Love Is Blind UK.' The woman who was pregnant with Patrick's child has allegedly spoken out about it too, according to the TikToker, writing: 'When he first tried to blackmail me, then goes on a dating show and then leaves you alone to go to Bali for 2 months spending his money there and then still calls you negative and a bad mom for losing it.' The video went on to claim that Patrick's baby mum wrote: 'Isn't it crazy how one parent gets to carry on with their life, jobs, hobbies, and social life, and the other parent has to ask for a break to take a shower.' Story Time With Rikkii continued to share a photo of the baby, as well as the woman pregnant and said: 'The math is mathing, and that means that he was in them pods with the baby on the way.' Annoyed fans have claimed that he "wasted Aanu's time" as a result. The Sun has contacted Netflix for comment. Love Is Blind UK star leaves viewers 'feeling physically sick' as he details his VERY unique job The star has also been slammed by fans after blaming the edit for his portrayal on the Netflix show. Patrick has taken to his own TikTok to speak about his split from Aanu in the pods. On the show, as he ends things, he says to Aanu that if he was in the room with her he would put his arm around her. But on his TikTok, Patrick has denied ever saying this to Aanu, claiming that he actually said it to someone else. 4 He wrote: 'They cut away from my face to edit in this dumb comment. 'I never said 'if I was there I'd definitely put my arm around you.' 'They took this from another date with a different person and why would I put my arm around someone I did not propose to. 'It even sounds so weird and out of place.' Fans have been left outraged, as one person wrote: 'This is such red flag behaviour. You can't just blame the edit.' A second penned: 'I smell bulls***,' and a third added: 'This is reality TV Patrick, surely you knew what you were getting yourself into.' Speaking in the pods to potential match Yolanda, Patrick said that he follows his spleen "literally to the second", later adding: "Listening to my spleen is the best way to find the love of his life.' While it didn't win over Yolanda or another hopeful, Catherine, the idea intrigued singer Aanu, who sparked a connection with him. But viewers were left baffled by his continued discussion of his spleen in conversation – with some left turned off by the chat, despite finding Patrick charming, saying it made them feel ill. "I loveee Patrick, do you know how nice you have to be for me to ignore the fact you keep mentioning your spleen??" wrote one on X (formerly Twitter). "Please the word 'spleen' is just making me cringe and feel physically sick. How many times are we going to have to hear this nonsense" said a second. "This bloke and his damn SPLEEN, his spleen should have told him to stay home," said a third. While a fourth noted: "The moment that guy talked about following his spleen, I would have been out of there." Despite the spleen talk, Patrick and Aanu did hit it off on the show - at least to begin with. However, the pair hit a wall when Aanu admitted that she puts a lot of weight into what her mum thinks, crediting her for helping her make decisions. The comment was received badly by Patrick, who said that his "spleen was silent" and that their connected had "dipped", with her telling Aanu that she needs to learn to follow her own instincts. From that point on, they struggle to get back on track – and when Aanu decides to open up to him by writing a song for him, he ends things before she can perform it. "I don't want you to give a song to someone who is undeserving of that song," he told her. "I've enjoyed thoroughly talking to you and going through this experience with you, but I have to follow my spleen." 4
