
Global Energy Prize Announces Laureates
The Global Energy Prize International Award Committee has announced the names of the 2025 laureates. Among the winners are researchers from China and Russia whose discoveries and innovations offer new solutions for the generation, transmission, and use of energy. The TV BRICS International Media Network served as an international partner of the event, according to TV BRICS.
The award in the Conventional Energy category was presented to
Jinliang He
, chair of High Voltage Engineering Research Institute, professor at China's Tsinghua University (China), for the development of advanced ultra- and extra-high voltage power transmission technologies.
Russia's representative,
Vladislav Khomich
, head of research at the Institute for Electrophysics and Electric Power of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), became the laureate in the New Ways of Energy Application category for his contribution to the development of pulsed energy and plasma technologies.
This year, the prize received 90 applications from scientists across 44 countries. The shortlist included 15 nominees from 8 countries. The winners were announced at a ceremony held in Krasnoyarsk. The event was attended by Governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory

, as well as jury members from China, South Africa, Russia, and other countries.
'The Krasnoyarsk Territory applied to host the awards announcement ceremony. The prize nominees presented many interesting ideas and projects; this is also a major educational effort,' said Kotyukov.

, Head of the Africa Division at the International Cooperation Department of TV BRICS.
'The Global Energy Prize promotes scientific development and highlights the importance of international cooperation, which is why TV BRICS has long been a media partner of the award,' she emphasised.

Iran Confirms Nahid-2 Satellite is Operational in Orbit
Yara Sameh The Iranian Space Agency (ISA) has confirmed successful communication with the newly launched Nahid-2 satellite, having received its initial telemetry signals. This is reported by the Mehr News Agency , a partner of TV BRICS. According to ISA chief Hossein Salariyeh, these signals indicate that the satellite is stable and functioning as intended in its designated orbit following its launch from Russia's Vostochny Cosmodrome on 25 July. Nahid-2 is a telecommunications satellite that utilises the Ku-band, commonly used for broadband connectivity across the globe. Salariyeh stated that post-launch efforts are now focused on systematically testing each subsystem to ensure optimal performance. The satellite, entirely designed and built domestically, is equipped with a range of features including secure data transmission, onboard storage, and direct communication with ground stations. China Uses AI and Algae to Strengthen Conservation of the Great Wall
Yara Sameh China is advancing the protection of the Great Wall with an innovative combination of artificial intelligence and biological conservation, as experts deploy smart inspection robots and algae-based techniques to preserve the historic structure. This is reported by China Daily , a partner of TV BRICS. At the Shanhaiguan Pass in Qinhuangdao, Hebei Province, a four-legged robot equipped with high-definition cameras, lidar, and smart sensors is now being used to assess the structural integrity of the wall. This robotic system can detect cracks, missing bricks, and other forms of deterioration, transmitting real-time data to relevant authorities. Hebei Province, which hosts one of the most well-preserved sections of the over 21,000-kilometre-long UNESCO World Heritage Site, has become a hub for technological innovation in cultural heritage preservation. Since 2017, drones have also been used to monitor inaccessible segments of the Wall, especially those located on cliffs or in remote areas. Data collected by these aerial patrols is stored in databases to guide future restoration strategies. Alongside digital tools, researchers are employing biological methods to combat rain erosion, which poses a serious threat to the stability of the Wall's rammed earth sections. The research team discovered that filamentous cyanobacteria, naturally occurring on parts of the Wall, create a biological soil crust that acts as a natural protective barrier. The research, conducted at Amirkabir University of Technology, addresses key challenges in both sectors. In the construction field, scientists tackled the vulnerability of 3D-printed concrete to environmental stress, particularly freeze-thaw cycles, by introducing an air-entraining additive. This compound generates micro air bubbles within the concrete structure, dramatically improving its durability and resistance to freezing conditions. In the energy sector, the team focused on improving lithium battery performance and longevity by combating the formation of solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) layers, which typically degrade battery capacity over time. Using curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric, they developed a natural, stable coating that protects electrodes, boosting the battery's capacity, thermal stability, and lifespan. These dual innovations demonstrate Iran's expanding presence in global scientific research.
