Is Blood of My Blood based on a book?
Audiences got a double bill special after Starz confirmed they would be dropping the first two instalments in one go, with episode three hitting screens next week.
The show is a prequel to the highly successful Outlander, which is adapted from the novels by American author Diana Gabaldon.
Each season of the show has roughly adapted one book in the series, with some divergences.
However, season seven adapted material from two novels and it looks like the eighth and final outing will be moving away from the source material.
The huge divergence comes as the Outlander TV series wraps up before Gabaldon has finished writing her book series.
The bestselling author working on the 10th and final novel in her epic saga titled A Blessing For A Warrior Going Out.
Many Outlander and Blood of My Blood fans are curious to know about the basis for the prequel series, here's the lowdown.
Is Blood of My Blood based on a book?
No, Blood of Blood simply takes its cue from the Outlander novel series by Gabaldon.
The story itself isn't based on a novel in the same way as Outlander is.
Brian Fraser (played by Jamie Roy) and Ellen MacKenzie's (Harriet Slater) passionate romance is referenced in passing in the Outlander novels, rather than being a central plot point.
Similarly, Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine) and Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield) and their tragic deaths in a car crash are mentioned by Claire Fraser (Caitríona Balfe) in the Outlander books.
Apart from this, Blood of My Blood doesn't really have any source material and the writers have been given free rein to take the story in any direction they choose.
One of the key decisions that Blood of My Blood's showrunner Matthew B. Roberts made in the prequel series was to imagine what if Claire's parents had survived and had both travelled back through time.
This game of what if serves as the jumping off point for Blood of My Blood's premise, with Henry and Julia being instrumental to Brian and Ellen's romance coming into fruition.
Moreover, this paves the way for Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser to eventually be together in Outlander.
Speaking at San Diego Comic-Con last month, Roberts said his change had ben given author Gabaldon's blessing.
He explained: 'She said to me it was a good idea. She didn't want to explore it herself, but at least she said, 'Go for it.' I thanked her and I went for it.'
The writer expanded: 'But she's so on board. She actually wrote on the show, so you're going to see her episode too. So, I think she's fully committed to the show.'
Gabaldon is very much involved in Blood of My Blood as a consultant and also wrote an episode of season one and co-wrote the finale with Roberts.
Outlander season 8 will air on Starz and MGM+ via Prime Video in early 2026

DJ The Blessed Madonna pulls out of Boardmasters festival after censorship claims
The DJ pulled out of Boardmasters Festival due to the organisation reportedly stopping acts from making any political statements Famous DJ The Blessed Madonna revealed they pulled out of Boardmasters Festival due to the organisation reportedly stopping acts from making any political statements. A few acts, including The Menstrual Cramps, DJ and producer Conducta, and surf brand Yonder, already boycotted the festival following claims the festival's proprietors have ties to Israel. The American DJ, real name Marea Renee Stamper, took to her Instagram page to share that her team received a notice from the festival at 4 in the morning saying she would be 'subject to a show-stop procedural agreement related to certain political messaging and would be required to to keep political or symbolic elements of my set within the guidances of the festival and government prior to the show.' In the caption, she wrote: "Any political statements, chants, or gestures will be observed, but the show will only be stopped if there is a legal or safety breach. To be clear I was told, not asked, while on my way to a long confirmed show these restrictions: 'Prior to your performance you will be asked to sign a Show Stop Procedure Acknowledgement, confirming your understanding of these boundaries.' "'This documentation will be used as evidence if the festival or your performance is called into review.'" It comes after furious Bob Geldof issued a desperate plea on Sky News to save babies in Gaza. The DJ continued: "In this email, they framed Palestine Action, an activist group banned in the UK, as equal to murderous terrorists and amongst banned symbols of hate on the same day as Netanyahu has sworn to completely ethnically cleanse Gaza city," before revealing they would no longer perform at the festival. She explained: "So, it is with deep regret, but moral clarity that I announce I will not be attending or playing Boardmasters festival tonight. This is not the fault of the working class people who run this festival. "All around the world, people of good conscience are contending with this atrocity as best they can. If you are working for peace, then I know that I have locked arms with you and we are running towards the right side of history together. "So, if you bought a ticket to Boardmasters to see my set tonight, please feel free to DM me a picture of you holding your ticket and I will make this right with you—with guest list somewhere, or a T-shirt, or something else very special because this is not your fault and I care about your happiness." Concluding her heartfelt post, she added: "There nothing more that I want to do more than dance with you. Music is the perfect expression of the will of the world. It is through music that I bettered myself and fixed my heart in a million broken places.I listened to my heart to make this decision and it said: I ain't signing s**t. Free Palestine." She said the same thing in the video, adding that she 'stands in defence of free speech' and 'dignity of anyone working to stop the explicitly stated genocidal actions being committed in Palestine by the Israeli occupation'. The Blessed Madonna received praise in the comment section, with many "applauding your integrity and moral standing". Boardmasters confirmed she pulled out of the festival and said: "We can confirm that The Blessed Madonna will no longer be performing at Boardmasters this year. We fully respect and support, without judgement, her decision and hope to welcome her back in the future." In a statement, they said: "It is standard process to ensure artists understand the safety and show stop procedures we have in place to protect our audience. Our pre-event guidance to artists makes it clear that we respect their right to express their views at Boardmasters and we categorically do not prevent political speech or censor artists. Alongside this, we include information on legally proscribed flags and emblems to ensure performers are fully informed of current UK law." It comes after Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel "intends to" take full control of Gaza. The PM warned this action "will do nothing" to end the war or secure the release of Hamas hostages. Lib Dem leader Sir Ed Davey accused Mr Netanyahu of plotting "ethnic cleansing" and called on Mr Starmer to hit Israel with sanctions.

Piers Morgan makes humbling Jake Paul climbdown ahead of potential Anthony Joshua fight
Piers Morgan has been outspoken with his views on Jake Paul's boxing career but the broadcaster has changed his tune amid speculation the YouTuber will fight Anthony Joshua next Piers Morgan has clarified a recent social media post where he claimed that Jake Paul 's boxing career to date had been 'boring staged b******' amid speculation the YouTuber turned boxer could soon fight Anthony Joshua. Paul, 28, initially found fame on YouTube but has won 12 fights since turning his hand to boxing in 2020. The American holds victories over boxing legends Mike Tyson and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr at heavyweight and cruiserweight respectively and has also beaten the former UFC star, Nate Diaz, in a boxing ring. Not everybody has been won over by Paul's performances in the ring, though, with Morgan taking aim at him recently. But following suggestions that Paul could be the next person to step into the ring with the former two-time world heavyweight champion, AJ, Morgan has changed his tune. The former Good Morning Britain host shared a social media post on Saturday where he stressed that his issue with Paul has been his bouts against athletes who are no longer at the peak of their powers; something which would not apply with AJ. 'I posted a few weeks ago that Jake Paul's boxing career has been 'boring staged bullsh*t,' Morgan wrote in a post on X. 'What I meant is that his fights have been predominantly against older, past-their-prime opponents, which may be lucrative for both sides, and may have entertainment value, but don't reveal how he stacks up against currently ranked boxers and therefore are not a good look for the sport. I did not intend to suggest that the outcome was predetermined and certainly didn't mean to suggest anything illegal. 'But if reports are correct that Jake is now in negotiations to fight Anthony Joshua, that would obviously be a seriously credible bout against one of the best heavyweights in the world. Jake is welcome to come on Uncensored to discuss this, and verbally slug it out with me, anytime.' While talk of a crossover bout between Paul and Joshua has been scoffed at in some quarters, AJ's long-time promoter, Eddie Hearn, recently admitted it could happen. 'This is very real,' he told The Ring. 'I had a good chat for about an hour with Nakisa on [July 30] and now I believe they want the fight. I really do. 'Nakisa was very honest and he's concerned about the fight, but Jake truly believes he can win the fight or at least be competitive in it. And now because of the size of the fight, it leads me to believe there's a very good chance it could happen. If I had to rate that chance I would say it's 50:50. It was a very positive conversation and we expect that conversation to extend over the coming weeks. If they really want it, it will happen.'
