Liverpool braced for £25m exit to boost funds for second Alexander Isak transfer bid
Ben Doak is set to complete a £25million transfer from Liverpool to Bournemouth - with only the formalities remaining after the clubs came to an agreement this weekend. The Scotland international did not feature in the teams' Premier League season opener after a breakthrough in discussions and now a deal is all but done.
Doak, 19, spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough, where he recorded three goals and seven assists in an impressive stint before injury curtailed his 2024/25 campaign. Liverpool paid £600,000 to sign the talented prospect from Celtic in 2022 and January saw Crystal Palace and Ipswich Town interested in his signature.
Liverpool valued him near the £30m mark at that time with prospective bids expected to be closer £15m. Now, Reds bosses have agreed a deal worth £25m with the Cherries after they identified Doak as the ideal candidate to replace new Brentford star Dango Ouattara Andoni Iraola, per Liverpool Echo.
Bournemouth fended off competition from Porto and Stuttgart to advance their deal. The south coast side were previously reported to be keen to reduce the fee required to land the young star.
Liverpool appear to have achieved the fee they wanted to part ways however, to continue a significant summer of business. While the Anfield side have spent hefty fees on the likes of Florian Wirtz, the club will have raised £215m following Doak's exit.
The ex-Celtic youngster follows the likes of Jarell Quansah, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez out of the door. And such business leaves Liverpool primed to return for Alexander Isak if encouraged by the Magpies to do so.
Isak was absent for Newcastle's opening match of the season against Aston Villa having not trained with the first team amid his stand off with the club over an exit. Eddie Howe's side missed the Swede's cutting edge as they failed to capitalise as their hosts went down to 10 men in the second half.
Liverpool saw a £110m offer turned down for Isak earlier this month, with the forward said to have suggested he would not play for Newcastle again. Howe has indicated that he remains open to the striker's return despite the dispute.
Fans vented their feelings on Isak following the draw at Villa Park and criticised his stance.
"Nothing has changed - but the door is well and truly open (for Isak)," said Howe. "But he has to decide what he wants to do. We would like a resolution, when I say we I am talking about myself and the ownership, the players we have, we need that clarity.
"This season, any Premier League season is hard enough, you don't need any type of distraction to swerve your thoughts and unbalance what we are doing. I am certainly not in control of that, there is only one person who is in control of that."

Jadon Sancho rejects two transfer offers to leave Manchester United
Jadon Sancho has rejected two offers to leave Manchester United despite his presence in Ruben Amorim's bomb squad. Sancho was left out of United's matchday squad for their Premier League opener against Arsenal on Sunday. Having been stripped of the No. 25 shirt last summer, Sancho did not even have a number next to his name in the Manchester United programme. Sancho was told to find a new club this summer and placed in Amorim's bomb squad along with Alejandro Garnacho and Antony. Metro's new weekly football newsletter: In The Mixer. New favourite to be first Premier League manager sacked as odds slashed
It was a bruising opening weekend of the Premier League season for a number of teams and one manager already appears to be under a lot of pressure. The heaviest defeat of the weekend was for Wolves as they were thrashed 4-0 at home by Manchester City, as Pep Guardiola's team suggested they will be a force once again. However, it was West Ham's 3-0 loss at Sunderland that really caught the eye as the newly promoted side swept aside the Hammers. It was a nightmare start to the campaign for West Ham boss Graham Potter and the bookmakers have already installed him as the new favourite to be the next manager to leave their post in the top flight. These things can and do change very quickly as before a ball was kicked this season it was Leeds boss Daniel Farke who was favourite in this market. Metro's new weekly football newsletter: In The Mixer. Exclusive analysis, FPL tips and transfer talk sent straight to your inbox every Friday – sign up, it's an open goal. The Yorkshire club get their season underway on Monday night against Everton and if they were to lose heavily then Farke may well reclaim the shortest odds on offer. For now, though, it is Potter who is under most pressure thanks to the three second half goals at the Stadium of Light which sent the Hammers back to London with their tails between their legs. Speaking to Sky Sports of the shock heavy defeat, Potter said: 'Very disappointing. The second half was not good from us in terms of the basics. 'First half was quite good, we controlled the crowd and were unfortunate not to score. The first goal was always going to be important. Basics of football we have to really improve. 'It is the first day, we know these things can happen as much as we don't like it to happen. We have a big game on Friday, we have to react and do a lot better.' Graham Potter 5/2 Keith Andrews 11/4 Scott Parker 8/1 Nuno Espirito Santo 8/1 Ruben Amorim 10/1 Daniel Farke 12/1 Vitor Pereira 12/1 Oliver Glasner 16/1 Eddie Howe 16/1 Regis Le Bris 16/1 Marco Silva 20/1 Andoni Iraola 25/1 Mikel Arteta 33/1 Fabian Hurzeler 33/1 Enzo Maresca 33/1 David Moyes 33/1 Thomas Frank 33/1 Pep Guardiola 40/1 Unai Emery 50/1 Arne Slot 100/1 Odds courtesy of talkSPORT Bet New Brentford boss Keith Andrews also saw his odds cut in the 'next manager to leave' market after a 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest. It has been a very difficult summer for the Bees as former boss Thomas Frank left for Tottenham, star striker Bryan Mbeumo was sold to Manchester United and captain Christian Norgaard moved to Arsenal. Yoane Wissa was also not involved at the City Ground on Sunday as he continues to be linked with a move to Newcastle. Andrews is in his first job as a manger and it is a tough one after the losses the club has suffered. 'It was always going to be difficult but we made it harder for ourselves,' the Irishman said after defeat at Forest. 'We knew their strengths and we knew the problems they would cause. Set-pieces were always going to be a threat. More Trending 'Get back to basics. Basics in the game is a dirty word at times, but you have to have an edge and do the ugly side of the game and compete as a team. I didn't think we did that. 'I saw it a lot in the first half and it's something we need to address. The second half was a lot better on a lot of fronts.' West Ham and Brentford have the chance to improve their early-season fortunes in front of their home fans this weekend. The Hammers host Chelsea on Friday night while the Bees play Aston Villa at 3pm on Saturday. Rasmus Hojlund offered surprise option for Man United exit
Fulham sounded out Manchester United over a potential move for Rasmus Hojlund due to the possibility of Rodrigo Muniz leaving the Whites this summer. The Brazilian forward has been expected to go to Atalanta in a £40m deal, although it is understood that a move to Serie A ran into difficulties by Sunday evening. Fulham have nevertheless explored alternatives, should the move be reignited, with Hojlund considered as an option to replace the Brazilian's firepower. The 24-year-old struck a 97th-minute equaliser for Marco Silva's side at the Amex to deny Brighton all three points and secure a draw to kick-start their Premier League campaign. The former Flamengo forward has scored 17 Premier League goals in his last two campaigns for Fulham, hitting double figures in all competitions, with a career-high of 11 goals last term. United want to sell the Dane after signing Benjamin Sesko in an €80m (£73.7m) deal. Hojlund's preference is to stay, but he is naturally prepared to consider prospective offers. United want £40m for the 22-year-old, although it is felt they would rather do a deal abroad. Hojlund was left out of the squad that lost 1-0 to Arsenal on Sunday at Old Trafford. The Dane was left on the bench for the final pre-season friendly against Fiorentina on 9 August, despite Sesko not registering in time to feature against the Italians. Hojlund cost £72m two years ago from Atalanta and has scored 14 goals in 62 league games since returning nine goals in 32 Series A matches.
