Hyderabad: City top cop, HNEW win global laurels for anti-narcotics fight

The WPS team formally informed Anand of his selection for first place in the Excellence in Anti-Narcotics Award category and congratulated him. The World Police Summit is a premier global forum that brings together leading law enforcement professionals from over 138 countries, with participation from globally renowned agencies such as the FBI, NYPD, LAPD, Metropolitan Police (UK), Australian Federal Police, and the German Police, etc.
Against this highly competitive backdrop, CV Anand emerged as the top awardee, marking an extraordinary achievement not only for Telangana Police but also for the country's collective anti-narcotics efforts. Central to this recognition is the pioneering work of HNEW which has implemented a holistic approach to drug control, combining – Multi-agency coordination with ED, NCB, DRI, GST, Excise, FRRO, Drugs Control Administration, and Counter Intelligence, apart from community outreach through anti-drug committees in colleges and sustained public awareness initiatives.
The strong enforcement action lead to the busting of international and inter-state peddling networks, dark web interventions, deportation of foreign offenders, and a significant decline in drug supply. Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara: Karnataka will regulate online games based on report
BENGALURU: Karnataka Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara on Tuesday told the Assembly that the State Government is keen to regulate online gaming platforms. The government would take action after the committee led by senior IPS officer Pranab Mohanty submits its report in September, said Dr Parameshwara. The online gaming market in India is more than $590 million, the House was told by IT-BT Minister Priyank Kharge. Dr Parameshwara said that youth are getting addicted to online games and betting, leading to social concerns. He said in the last three years 347 cases have been booked related to online gaming. This includes 84 in 2023, 104 and 159 cases. In 2021, the previous BJP government had amended the Karnataka Police Act to prohibit online games. This was challenged by the All-India Gaming Federation and the Act was struck down by the High Court in 2022. The state government has challenged this before the Supreme Court.

Stop using 'Harijan' word in official communications: Odisha Government
'The Odisha Government has asked all its Departments, public and educational institutes and others to stop using the term 'Harijan' in communications,' officials said on Wednesday (August 13, 2025.) The government suggested the authorities concerned that words like 'scheduled caste' in English and 'anusuchita jati' in Odia or other national languages should be used to "denote persons belonging to the Scheduled Castes as notified under Article 341 of the Constitution," according to a letter issued on August 12 by the Commissioner-cum-secretary of the ST and SC Development, Minorities and Backward Class Welfare Department. "They have been instructed to ensure that the word 'Harijan' does not appear in any official communications, records, transactions, caste certificates, publications, departmental names, or any other form of use," one of the officials said. 'The authorities concerned are also directed to educate their staff and update existing documents and records accordingly,' he said. 'They are also told to submit a compliance report on the action taken on the matter,' another official said. 'These guidelines will be strictly enforced in all government offices,' the official said. In 1982, the Centre had asked all State Governments not to use the term 'Harijan' to refer to Dalits. 'Following fresh guidelines prepared by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, a similar Order was also issued in 2013 to all the States, directing them to ensure non-use of the 'Harijan' word not only in caste certificates but also in official communications,' the officials said. 'The Odisha Assembly has also prohibited the use of the word 'Harijan',' they said.

CV Anand holds review meet on arrangements for Ganesh festivities
Hyderabad: In view of the upcoming Vinayaka Chaturthi festival, Hyderabad City police commissioner C.V. Anand held a preparatory video conference regarding the installation and immersion of Ganesh idols. The commissioner discussed the matter in detail with all Hyderabad City Police personnel, from Sub-Inspectors to the Additional Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad city. It has been observed that for the past three years, the Milad un Nabi festival has coincided with the Ganesh Navaratri celebrations. Since this year is no exception, CV Anand gave detailed instructions on the precautions to be taken to ensure both events proceed smoothly. During the conference, the Commissioner provided comprehensive instructions on the precautions to be taken during the installation of the idols, how to coordinate with the mandap organizers until the time of immersion, and the security arrangements required during the immersion processions. He instructed all Sector S.I.s and Police Station S.H.O.s to collect complete details of the mandaps in their respective areas. This information will facilitate geo-tagging, which will be useful for managing security arrangements and tracking the movement of idols during the immersion procession. The Commissioner further advised that meetings should be held frequently at the police station level with mandap organizers to coordinate and provide them with the necessary facilities. Vikram Singh Mann, Additional CP Law and Order; P. Viswa Prasad, Additional CP Crime; Joel Davis, Joint CP Traffic; and other officials virtually attended the meeting.
