New Spider-Man: Brand New Day Rumor Makes Wild Claim About Sadie Sink's Role, But It Would Also Make A Lot Of Sense For Post-Avengers: Doomsday

When Tom Holland's Peter Parker swings back into our lives next year in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, he'll have a Strangers Things star in tow. Sadie Sink was cast in the upcoming Spider-Man movie in March, and almost right out the gate, it was theorized that she might be playing Mary Jane Watson or Jean Grey. However, now there's a new Brand New Day rumor out there making a wild claim about Sink's role, and honestly, I could buy this happening in a post-Avengers: Doomsday landscape.
If a source who spoke to The Hot Mic co-host John Rocha is to be believed, Sink is playing May 'Mayday' Parker, who is Peter Parker's teenage daughter from another universe in the comics and goes by Spider-Girl. But it gets even wilder, as this source claims this version of Mayday will be the daughter of Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker, who teamed up with Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield's versions in Spider-Man: No Way Home. If this information is accurate, then this would be Mayday's second theatrical appearance, as she was presented as the infant daughter of Jake Johnson's Peter B. Parker in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
While this rumor should be taken with a grain of salt for now, Sadie Sink playing Mayday Parker wouldn't be the most farfetched thing to happen. Even ignoring how Tom Holland's Peter has already dabbled with multiverses craziness, just look at the upcoming Marvel movie's title: Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Day… Mayday… wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

More importantly though, let's remember that Brand New Day is coming out two months after Avengers: Doomsday's May 2026 release. While Marvel Studios opted to have Ant-Man and the Wasp and Captain Marvel take place before the events of Avengers: Infinity War (minus their end credits scenes), there's a good chance that the next Spider-Man movie could build off what goes down in Doomsday. If that's the case, then having Mayday Parker meeting a younger variant of her father would be rather fitting, as it might become easier for travel between realities after the fifth Avengers movie.
Now none of this is to say we'd also see Tobey Maguire back as his Peter or Kirsten Dunst back as Mary Jane Watson for the first time since Spider-Man 3, although I certainly hope this would happen, too. What's more important to me is that we see Sadie Sink's Mayday as Spider-Girl rather than just a powerless civilian. Let's see how she does helping our main protagonist fight whoever the villain is (Jeff Sneider, The Hot Mic's other host, claims it's going to be Mister Negative), and maybe we could then see her return in Avengers: Secret Wars.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day spins its web in theaters on July 26, 2026. The Bear's Liza Colón-Zayas recently joined in an undisclosed role, and Destin Daniel Cretton is directing the feature. We'll keep our eyes and ears out for any details that verify or debunk that we'll be seeing Sadie Sink as Mayday Parker.

Tim Miller Dishes On the ‘X-Men' Horror Movie He Almost Made
Slowly, but surely, Marvel's making moves to bring the X-Men to the big screen again in the next few years. As everyone waits to find out what all that entails (and who it'll involve), filmmaker Tim Miller looked back on the one he nearly did once upon a time. During a recent interview with the Hollywood Reporter, the Deadpool director talked about Marvel's mutant corner as the company's 'secret weapon. […] The X-Men are my favorite characters, and I wrote to Kevin Feige like, 'If there was anything you'd ever let me do in the Marvel universe, the X-Men would be it.'' In fact, he had an X-film in development at one point, which would've been based on Chris Claremont and John Byrne's Uncanny X-Men #143. In that, the team departs the mansion for the holidays, leaving Kitty Pryde on her own. While left to her own devices, an N'Garai—demons the team previously fought over the years—invades the mansion, and she's got to hold her own against it. Miller described the film as 'Home Alone meets Alien,' and it seems this was the Kitty solo movie Fox announced back in 2018 that he would've directed from a script by comics scribe Brian Michael Bendis. (At the time, Kitty was part of the Guardians of the Galaxy as Star-Lord during Bendis and Valerio Schiti's 2015-2017 run). Unfortunately, this was in development at Fox around the time of its merger with Disney, so it was one of many ideas—along with publicized solo films for Gambit and Multiple Man, plus a hopeful Fantastic Four crossover—which never came to cinematic fruition. X-Men movies were typically action affairs, but Fox let the characters dip into horror with New Mutants. It was the last franchise movie of the Fox era, but once they've properly settled into the MCU, maybe they can be taken for a scary spin again. Either way, Miller seems to be happy with how everything's settled: he called himself 'the luckiest nerd on the planet' for bringing a proper Deadpool to the silver screen, and feels things have gone up from there. 'I didn't expect to have my own studio, or to do Terminator: Dark Fate,' he told THR. 'Being able to do Love Death + Robots is probably my achievement I'm most of. I'm old, but I'm not done yet.'

As part of my job as What to Watch's streaming editor, compile weekly lists of the best new additions that Netflix releases. This week, I'm looking at new shows, movies and specials that'll release on Netflix between Saturday, May 31 and Friday, June 6. Many of the Netflix Originals I pick end up on our list of the best Netflix shows and best Netflix movies. Not all of them but I want to give you multiple options depending on your taste. Netflix's overall list this week had quite a few returning shows but I wanted a balance of original and popular ones, so there's a fair blend here. There's lots of crime, but that's Netflix for you. So let's find you something to watch on Netflix this week: We begin the week in Spain, for a six-part crime drama about a former spy called Sara. Woman in the Shadows is about this woman who forces herself to return to the intelligence game because she wants to get revenge for the death of her son. However her task sees her having to confront some uncomfortable facts about who her son really was. Releases on Tuesday, June 3 Shaquille O'Neal probably needs no introduction, but the famous basketball player has since his sporting days proven just as successful in business. And his new docuseries coming mid-week explores that side of him. Power Moves is a part-sport, part-business docuseries about Shaq's time leading the Reebok Basketball brand. He tries to revitalize it using his knowledge and passion for the game as well as his financial and branding acumen. Releases on Wednesday, June 4 A beloved though also divisive drama series returns to Netflix this week with Ginny & Georgia season 3, which gets all ten episodes of its new run at the same time. The show is about a mother and daughter (and the mother's other child) who try to find a way to settle down after being on the run for many years. In the season 2 finale, Georgia was arrested for murder, so season 3 will show Ginny trying to free her. Releases on Thursday, June 5 Shane Gillis' home-made workplace comedy Tires returns this week. The first season was made and funded by the divisive comedian and it was successful enough to get Netflix to create a second. Tires is about the workers of an auto shop who struggle to keep in business despite the incompetent and nervous owner, and the slacking attitude of everyone else. Season 2 follows them struggling to come to terms with unexpected new success. Releases on Thursday, June 5 Another Korean action series lands on Friday, June 6 with Mercy for None, which is set among Seoul's seedy criminal underbelly. Mercy for None tells the story of Gi-jun, who was a mob enforcer but left his brother and that life (and the city) behind over a decade ago. However when his brother is killed, Gi-jun returns to the city to find the murderer, a journey which involves fighting lots of the gang members. Releases on Friday, June 6 His partnership with Netflix mostly focuses on TV shows, but prolific creator Tyler Perry has a new movie arriving on Friday, June 6 which he wrote and directed. Straw is about a single mother called Janiyah whose daughter is sick. Janiyah is struggling to keep caring for the child and something happens which pushes her to the edge. Releases on Friday, June 6 We travel to Australia for our final series of the week, which is based on a book by Jane Harper. The Survivors stars Charlie Vickers and Yerin Ha and it's set in a fictional town in Tasmania. The Survivors is about a young boy who leaves said town after the mysterious death of two children and the disappearance of a third. Fifteen years later he returns to the town, this time with a wife and young baby in tow. However another murder takes place, and it sparks off an investigation which seems linked to the last crime. Secrets are revealed which affect the man and his family. Releases on Friday, June 6

Avengers: Doomsday ‘Set Leak' Videos Are Our New, Inescapable AI Reality
Avengers Doomsday A video was quickly spread around social media over the past 24 hours, racking up 7 million views at the time of this writing, as everyone scrambled to see what were purported to be set leaks from the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, currently shooting in a number of regions. The video was full of surprises, Robert Downey Jr. in his Doctor Doom costume. The unannounced appearances of Spider-Man, Scarlet Witch and Deadpool. Big reveals! It's fake. Of course it's fake. It's AI. But it's AI which shows how much the tech is spiraling into something almost unstoppable. It's true, if you pause the video you can no doubt parse that it's AI. Some parts are more clear than others, like a Thor that looks like Heath Ledger or a Scarlet Witch that looks like Taylor Swift, but if you just flipped through this quickly, you can see how it can 'pass' on first glance, at least recreating the look and feel of set leak videos in a way I've simply never seen faked before. It was eventually community-noted as AI, but not before it had at least 5 million views or so. Throw this on Facebook (which I'm sure has happened already), and I bet you'd convinced 95% of users there it was legitimate. It's funny, the first way I saw this debunked wasn't because of glitched hands or odd faces, but rather no one believed that Marvel would actually use a practical suit for Iron Man at this point, as that armor has long been CGI with Robert Downey Jr. walking around in a mo-cap suit. In only a few years, we keep getting to new levels of this tech that you have to pause and zoom and scrutinize to prove whether or not it's AI. This video here would not have been remotely possible a year ago. What happens in a year from now? No more Taylor Swift or Heath Ledger faces, I imagine. I don't think this was actually trying to be a serious leak. I mean, throwing Deadpool, Spider-Man and Scarlet Witch in there is kind of a goof. But this was made in a day after the other leaked ('leaked') set shot was being passed around. Is this kind of silly? It is, once you break it down and see the obvious changes. But expect to see this kind of thing happen more and more in the leak space and become more and more convincing as a result. The next few years are going to be unsettling.
