AKG Centre a hallmark of energy efficiency and eco-friendliness
According to the CPM, it is the first building in Kerala to achieve the Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA) 4 rating from the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.
An array of special interior and exterior features makes the building stand out from other modern-day structures. Environmental friendliness is its primary hallmark.
As per the party, the building, constructed in adherence to green protocol, has only 30% of its 60,000 sq ft space air-conditioned. The 11-storey solar-powered building has two underground floors just for parking and can accommodate up to 60 vehicles at a time, the party said.
'Under normal circumstances, the building can withstand even a moderate earthquake, and won't suffer cracks. There's a chain of about 220 pilings across the compound. Of these, 82 are for the main building alone,' said senior CPM leader A K Balan.
He said the entire electrical equipment has five-star rating. Odourless paint has been used, while curtains and carpets are indigenous, Balan said, adding that the building is also disabled-friendly. 'There are special water storage facilities— for rainwater harvesting and normal supply. If required, we can supply water to surrounding regions too, especially if there's a fire,' Balan said. All the furniture for the building have been procured from Rubco, a PSU.
Balan said CPM took special care to ensure that contracts for different aspects of the building was awarded through competitive bidding to avoid needless controversies. 'We can say with pride that we didn't have to take a single building rule exemption,' he said.
Spread across 32 cents at NS Warrier Road, three floors of the building have been dedicated for office works and meetings and also house conference halls. The building has facilities for the state committee office, a meeting hall for the secretariat, a space for media briefing, studio, office rooms for the politburo, central committee and state secretariat members, in addition to a modernised kitchen and accommodation for senior leaders.
It was the late Kodiyeri Balakrishnan who identified the land next to the old building while serving as the CPM state secretary and proposed the construction of the new office building. It was designed by architect Mahesh.

From CPM backer to astrologer of high & mighty, ‘Guruji' Madhava Pothuval has seen it all
KANNUR: In the swirl of controversy over CPM state secretary M V Govindan's recent visit to an astrologer, one fact is often overlooked: A V Madhava Pothuval is no ordinary soothsayer. From Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to industrialist Gautam Adani and Supreme Court judges, Pothuval's clientele reads like the who's who of India's political and business elite. 'Guruji' to his north Indian clients, Pothuval's links to the corridors of power began more than a decade ago. In 2010, when Amit Shah was embroiled in a legal fight in connection with the Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter case, three acquaintances of Shah approached the Payyanur astrologer with his horoscope. 'I didn't know Amit Shah at the time,' Pothuval recalls. 'My relative, Sudha Menon, recommended me to his family. They had to wait three hours at my home, but I predicted the exact date when he will be relieved from the case. When it came true, it sparked a relationship of trust that has endured to this day.' The following year, Shah visited him in Payyanur. Pothuval took him to the Payyanur Subramanya Swami temple and the Thaliparamba Rajarajeshwara temple, suggesting offerings such as the 'swarna kuda pooja' and 'swarna vel'. 'He performed all of them wholeheartedly,' Pothuval said. 'From then on, we met several times in Payyanur, Bengaluru, Delhi, and Gujarat. Even last month, during his Kerala visit, he came to see me here.'

M V Govindan slams Pamplany for ‘opportunistic' stance
1 2 Kozhikode: CPM state secretary M V Govindan launched a scathing attack on Thalassery archbishop Mar Joseph Pamplany, describing him as someone who is very opportunistic in his stance. Speaking at a party function in Kannur on Monday, Govindan said there wouldn't be anyone else who displays opportunism so strongly. Govindan said that when nuns were arrested in Chhattisgarh, Pamplany had spoken against the BJP, but once the nuns were granted bail, he went on to praise Union home minister Amit Shah and others. "Priests even went to the RSS office with cakes to curry flavour," he added. DYFI state secretary V K Sanoj too had criticized Pamplany the other day saying that people like him could meet the fate of Niemoller, the German pastor who initially supported Hitler but was later imprisoned for opposing his regime. CPM rallies for 42% BC quota, accuses Centre of delaying justice
Gadwal: CPM has demanded that the Centre pass a law in Parliament granting 42% reservations for Backward Classes and safeguard it under the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution. Addressing a protest at the YSR statue in Darur mandal, CPM district committee member Uppair Narasimha accused the BJP-led government of deliberately stalling the BC Reservation Bill approved by the Telangana Assembly. He alleged that the BJP was using the issue of Muslim reservations to divert attention and mislead the public. He warned that without constitutional protection, BCs would remain dependent on upper-caste landlords and capitalists, and legislatures would continue to be dominated by the elite. Narasimha called on BCs to unite against 'landlord-dominated parties' that treat them as a vote bank. Leaders including Devadasu, Mekala Narasimhulu, Govindu, Mosha, Anjaneyulu, Lakshmanna, Praveen, and Thimmappa participated.
