Lucknow: Pointing fingers at the BJP for trolling of the wife of navy officer killed in Pahalgam terror attack over her appeal for peace, wielding threat to a 'courageous woman' for raising voice for brotherhood amid vandalism in Nainital and use of highly objectionable language for women folk singers exposing BJP, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday said that it was only the women folk who will expose the BJP's hypocrisy over its 'Nari Shakti Vandan' mask.Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam was the title that Modi govt had given to the Act tabled in 2023 that sought to reserve one-third of the total seats in Lok Sabha and the state assemblies for women.Akhilesh's reaction came a day after the National Commission for Women (NCW) took note of the troll storm against Himanshi Narwal , wife of Navy officer Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, who was killed in the Pahalgam terror attack. Himanshi had appealed to the people not to be hostile towards Muslims or Kashmiris, for which she was trolled heavily. The commission said it was condemnable and unfortunate that she was being targeted for her opinion."The NCW should not only limit itself to lip service but also exercise its powers to ensure that its authority is felt," Akhilesh said in a statement issued on Tuesday. The SP chief also referred to hate trolls that followed a video showing a woman in Nainital opposing a crowd that was pointing fingers at the entire Muslim community over the alleged rape of a minor in which the accused was a Muslim. The incident had led to communal violence in Nainital. In his statement, Akhilesh also made an apparent reference to the hate posts that followed Neha Rathore for asking 'tough questions' to the BJP govt over the Pahalgam attack and wondering why a number of major heinous terror attacks in the past took place when the BJP was in power. "All these women are being openly threatened and highly objectionable language is being used against them but no action is taken against such people," he said."The BJP also tries to project that it values Nari Vandana but that is not true. The fact is that the BJP is against women. This is the time to openly back those gutsy women who are calling the BJP out. It is time to expose the BJP and their Sangi-Sathi of their anti-woman mindset," he added.'SP will buy JPNIC if govt wants to sell it'Lucknow: Akhilesh Yadav said the BJP govt has come out with its plan to sell off Jai Prakash Narain International Centre (JPNIC) that was built during the Samajwadi Party regime. In such a scenario the SP will seek donations from its cadre and buy the building as it has ideological reasons and emotional attachment with the project. "When the foundation of JPNIC was laid during the SP govt, socialist leaders like Mulayam Singh Yadav and George Fernandes among others attended the event. The premises has a museum on socialist ideologue Jai Prakash Narain. It is the best museum on any political personality in the world. Now that govt wants to sell it and if it agrees to sell it to SP, I will appeal to the cadres to donate so that we socialist can buy this building which is a socialist memorial," Akhilesh said.'Not even a 'sutli' bomb has been made'Lucknow: Accusing the BJP of acquiring land of farmers in Bundelkhand in the name of defence corridor to manufacture fighter jets, tanks and missiles, Akhilesh Yadav said govt has not been able to manufacture even a Sutli Bomb (firecracker) there. As a result, the central govt was still importing all defence equipment from the international market, he said.

Congress top brass summons Siddaramaiah, Shivakumar in Bengaluru stampede case
The Congress high command on Monday issued summon to chief minister Siddaramaiah and deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar to Delhi in the wake of the stampede near Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium that killed 11 people and injured scores of people. This comes amid signs of a widening rift between the two leaders, with Siddaramaiah indirectly shifting blame toward Shivakumar for the mishap during the IPL victory celebration while the CM pointedly distanced himself from. 'CM Siddaramaiah will meet party leadership in Delhi and will brief them on the latest developments,' a statement from the chief minister's Office said. Both leaders have been asked to meet Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday morning. While Shivakumar is already in the national capital for a government programme, Siddaramaiah is scheduled to fly to Delhi in the morning. ALSO READ | Siddaramaiah deflects Bengaluru stampede blame, says 'no connection to stadium' The stampede occurred on June 4 evening outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium during an event organised to celebrate Royal Challengers Bengaluru's win in the IPL. The chaos left 11 people dead and more than 56 injured. Siddaramaiah did not attend the event at the stadium, which began around 6.10 pm and was attended by Shivakumar. The CM was at the celebration at Vidhana Soudha. Speaking to reporters in Mysuru on Sunday, Siddaramaiah said he became aware of the deaths only at 5.45 pm, nearly two hours after they were reported at the hospital. 'I came to know the deaths happened at 5.45pm. At 3.50pm, deaths were reported at the hospital, but I came to know about it only at 5.45pm. Until that point, I was not aware of deaths taking place due to the stampede. I have taken action against whoever has done wrong,' he said. Distancing himself from the event and its planning, he said: 'The incident happened near the cricket stadium. I have no connection with that. It should not have happened.' He explained that the event was organised by the cricket association. When asked about any planning meetings or involvement of top leaders, he denied any knowledge. He told reporters, 'Neither the Deputy Chief Minister…', then corrected himself saying, 'no, neither the Home Minister, nor I know about it (planning of meetings).' His remarks have been interpreted by leaders within the party and outside as an attempt to subtly assign responsibility to Shivakumar, who was present at the stadium and has been more closely associated with organising public events. Meanwhile, deputy CM Shivakumar on Monday accused the BJP and Janata Dal (Secular) of politicising the tragedy. 'The BJP and JD(S) are politicising over dead bodies. I feel sorry for them,' he said. On the chief minister's comments, he offered a cautious response: 'I am the deputy CM. Already my CM made some decisions which are best for the future.' Shivakumar also indicated the government is working on long-term crowd management reforms. 'We will come out with an act for crowd management. We will come out with a policy,' he said. Home minister G Parameshwara said: 'The high command has asked us about what happened, and we have provided information over the phone. The high command has not called me either to Delhi or Mumbai.' He also rejected the speculation that he had asked for a change in his ministerial portfolio. 'I have never demanded any specific portfolio from the chief minister. I am clarifying. I have not asked for anything, and no discussion has been held. It is false,' he said. When asked about the police warning prior to the stampede and the role of the suspended officials, he said, 'We have handed over the probe to the one-man justice commission. Until the probe is complete, if we make statements in the media, it will become sub judice.' He also refrained from commenting on whether he was excluded from the event's planning. 'If I say anything now, it might change the direction of the investigation,' he said.

Prohibitory orders imposed in Assam's Dhubri town following communal tensions
Issuing an order under section 163 of BNSS, District Magistrate Dibakar Nath said the restrictions shall come into force with immediate effect and remain in force until further order. Demonstrations were held in the town during the day to protest the alleged throwing of meat near a temple. Police had to use tear gas shells to bring the situation under control, they said. Guwahati, Jun 9 (PTI) Prohibitory orders were imposed in Assam's Dhubri town on Monday following communal tensions, officials said. 'It has been brought to my notice that there is a likelihood of breach of peace and public tranquillity in the areas falling under the jurisdiction of Dhubri Police Station due to communal tension, riot risk, violent protests, etc,' he said. Accordingly, he ordered all shops and markets in the Dhubri town area to remain closed and prohibited the assembly of five or more people in any public places. Organising any rally, procession, meeting, or demonstration has also been strictly prohibited, the order mentioned. It exempted the movements of emergency services from the purview of the restrictions, it said. 'As the circumstances of the situation do not admit service of notice in due time, this order is passed ex-parte,' it added. While speaking to reporters, Nath said, 'I appeal to everyone to maintain peace, and there is no need to panic and get emotional. All must stay indoors and respect each other.' A suspected cow head was found near a temple on Sunday, another officer said. Protesting it, a mob attacked vegetable vendors and e-rickshaw drivers near Dhubri Magistrate Colony and New Market, he said. Nath said that sufficient forces have been mobilised from both state and central agencies, and they have been deployed across the town. Asked if curfew will be imposed, he said, 'There will be no curfew, but a kind of semi-curfew will be there. All shops and markets will be closed. I request all not to pay heed to rumours, and one community must respect the other.' The district administration held meetings between the Hindu and Muslim communities on Sunday and requested both sides to maintain peace. 'During today's protest, we lobbed tear gas shells at one place. No one was injured,' Nath said without sharing further details. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said a number of cattle were allegedly slaughtered illegally at several places on Eid, on Saturday, and parts of the meat were thrown at multiple locations across the state. He said the police arrested 16 people from different places. PTI TR SOM This report is auto-generated from PTI news service. ThePrint holds no responsibility for its content.

Congress steps up efforts to strengthen reach in SC areas
Ranchi: Congress, which is part of the ruling coalition govt in the state, is now focusing on consolidating its base in the Scheduled Caste dominated regions. Days after state finance minister and Chatterpur MLA Radhakrishana Kishore shot a letter to chief minister Hemant Soren to urge formation of an SC commission and a panel on the lines of Tribes Advisory Council (TAC), the grand old party is now gearing up to hold a mega convention on June 11 in Ranchi to ponder over the condition of Scheduled Caste in the state. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Talking to the media persons on Monday, Kishore said that the upcoming meet would have representatives from AICC's SC wing besides others from the community. "The idea is to deliberate on the condition of the Harijan community in the state, and chalk out future plan for their welfare. Based on the resolutions taken at the meeting, we will apprise CM with the demands," said Kishore. As per the estimates, around 50 lakh SC population exists in Jharkhand. The minister, however, said that since formation of Jharkhand, there hasn't been any focused approach to uplift their socio-economic conditions. "I believe the condition of Harijan (SC) community is no less better than the PVTGs. While for tribal welfare, we have TAC, a body to recommend about their welfare schemes to the govt and other interventions, SCs continue to lag behind," he said, adding that recently he had also written a letter to the CM in this regard. "In 2018, previous BJP govt had formed SC commission before 2019 assembly elections, but it largely remained defunct. It was BJP's ploy to garner SC votes. However, our alliance govt will now work towards them," he said, referring to a proposal for SC welfare in this year's state budget. He also demanded installation of a statue of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar be installed in the new assembly and high court premises, and hostels for Scheduled Caste students on the lines of the one that exists for tribals.
