Married At First Sight's Ella Ding breaks silence after backlash over her sponsored pregnancy post
The reality TV star, who is expecting her first child with husband Guy Palermo, shared her exciting baby news in a post that advertised her partnership with Clearblue, a pregnancy test company.
The post, while receiving many congratulations from friends and family, faced major criticism, with some followers calling it 'tacky' and 'cringe' to announce her pregnancy with a sponsored post.
Now, the 31-year-old has opened up about the business opportunity, telling Yahoo Lifestyle that it was a 'no-brainer'.
'Clearblue literally told me I'm pregnant. Like, I don't really know how much more you can align with a brand,' she said.

The MAFS alum revealed that she initially felt weird when the opportunity came across her desk, however the more she thought about it, the more the partnership made sense to her.
'If it makes sense to me and my people understand, that's all that matters. And if you got offered, you would take it!' she said.
Ella also noted that the cost of living crisis was a reasonable excuse for saying yes to the brand partnership, adding that having a baby is 'f***ing expensive'.
The soon-to-be-mum said that she and Guy would set up a bank account for their baby, hinting that the money from her pregnancy partnership and any other baby-related opportunities would go towards her unborn child.
'It's something that I wish my parents did for me from when I was a young age, and something that I really want to do for our baby to start helping them save from a really young age,' she said.
Last week, fans weighed in on Ella's controversial 'pregnancy announcement ad', which featured a series of photos including a positive Clearblue pregnancy test.
'Somewhere between healing and hustling, the next chapter quietly chose us,' Ella captioned her post.
'Baby Palermo you've already made our story sweeter & given us the best news of 2025 yet.'
Ella also included the information '#ad #ClearblueConfirmed,' and consumer advice, 'Always read the label and follow the directions for use.'
The announcement was re-posted by the @influencer.updates.au Instagram page.
The post was met with mixed feelings from followers of the controversial bride who has built a high profile on social media since appearing in MAFS 2022.
'Nooo this feels off being an ad. Is this the official announcement? Congratulations either way,' wrote one follower.
'Congrats! However does anyone else feel we are living in a capitalist nightmare with a pregnancy announcement being an ad?' suggested another fan.
One angry follower responded: 'Stop normalising this behaviour, not EVERYONE does this.
'It screams "attention" and is absolutely disgusting to use your child as a walking advertisement before they are even born. Show some class.'
'Talk about exploiting a child … starts from the moment of conception ,' agreed another user.
Added one follower: 'A paid ad to announce your first pregnancy? The last thing that should be on the mind is how can I make money out of announcing I'm pregnant.
'Each to their own but feels a bit off.'
Several celebrities, meanwhile, offered their congratulations, including MAFS coach Mel Schilling, Tammy Hembrow and social media star Sarah Jane Roza.
It comes after Domenica Calarco called out former best friend Ella for announcing her pregnancy with a sponsored post.
Domenica took to the comments section to slam Ella for 'monetising on her pregnancy'.

American mom living in Australia reveals major differences between kids' birthday parties in the two countries
An American mom who moved to Australia has revealed the biggest differences between kid's birthday parties in the two countries. In a recent video posted to TikTok, Lex, who has lived in Australia for almost a year, sparked a viral conversation after she detailed the top five variations when it comes to children's bashes - and how her family has adapted to them. 'They're just a little bit different from birthday parties in American,' the mom, who lives in Brisbane, Queensland, explained. Joking that her son is turning six soon so she's got 'birthday parties on the brain,' Lex went on to list the five keys differences. The first difference she noticed after going to a 'handful' of birthday parties down under is how 'laid back and chill' the parties were. Lex noted that in America, she feels as though birthday parties are trying to 'keep up with the Joneses.' 'You have these big, extravagant birthday parties [in the US],' she explained. As an example, she added: 'We went to a birthday party one time where they bought a petting zoo to the kid's house.' 'So what I enjoy here is that you know, most of the birthday parties we've been to have been at people's homes or at the park down the road,' added the mom-of-one. 'They ain't worried about having the perfect venue and spending all this money 'Also decorations are super chill, there's no decorations like balloon arches. There are decorations but it's just very simple.' The second difference was that there's less paper and plastic products used at birthday parties in Australia. 'In the States, we use paper plates and plastic forks and knives and plates all the time,' explained Lex. 'Therefore, it's much more common at birthday parties to see them in excess.' Meanwhile, in Australia, she said her son has been to a few birthday parties where they don't even offer plates for cake; instead, they give it to the kids in a napkin - sometimes without forks even. 'It was perfectly fine,' she quipped. 'Why are we using all these paper and plastic products?' The mom said the third difference was her 'favorite.' 'I love it when Australian's sing Happy Birthday,' she gushed. 'They say "hip, hip, hooray" at the end.' 'I love how much our son loves it now too,' she added. 'That's his favorite part of the son.' The fourth major difference according to Lex was the snacks offered at Australian birthday parties. She listed chocolate crackles, fairy bread (sprinkles on buttered white bread), and and the 'party mix' gummy candy. 'I just noticed in general that the snacks people offer here are different,' she observed. The fifth difference was that most of the cakes at Australian birthday parties are homemade. 'I think it's amazing and wholesome that the parents make the cakes,' she said, citing a popular cookbook, The Women's Weekly Birthday Cake Cookbook. 'I'm a big fan of all five differences,' she fondly reflected. 'I can't say there's one thing I miss.' The video went viral and users were divided in the comment section over whether these rules applied to all parts of Australia - with some suggesting it may be regional specific. 'Probably in Brisbane but you come to Sydney and it's a completely different story,' one user wrote. Another chimed in with her birthday memories, sharing: 'We had a pool and my birthday is October so my birthday parties were always a pool party with a BBQ, super fun and super easy. 'We'd play pass the parcel, the chocolate game, the doughnut game and lots of pool games. I loved it and my friends loved it.' 'It's all about everyone having a great relaxed day,' agreed someone else.

Jana Duggar, 35, is pregnant and expecting first child with bible studies leader husband one year after wedding
Jana Duggar is expecting her first child with bible studies leader Stephen Wissmann just one year after tying the knot. The 35-year old Counting On star announced that she was pregnant in a joint Instagram post with 32-year-old pastor of East Fairview Mennonite Church in Milford, Nebraska which was shared on Monday. They shared three photos from a pregnancy announcement shoot including a black and white snap of them kissing. She captioned the gallery to her 855K followers: 'We are so excited, January 2026 is going to come with a little bundle of joy joining our family! 'We're counting down the days and eagerly looking forward to this thrilling new chapter in our lives!' Jana is the eldest daughter of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar who have 19 children as their family has starred in multiple reality series together. This comes a year after the two said 'I do' in Prairie Grove, Arkansas as her sister Jill - who has had a longstanding estrangement from the family - was not one of her bridesmaids alongside their other siblings. Jana — who moved out of her parent's home in July of last year — opened up about her big day to People at the time, gushing over how she had 'prayed for this for years.' She and the bible study leader held their nuptials at The Grand at Willow Springs in front of 500 guests just three months after getting engaged, which she described as a 'dream come true.' 'I think it is one of those things that all girls envision someday,' she told the outlet just days before he got married. 'For me, it felt like, "Okay, it's never coming." But now it's starting to sink in. Reality is starting to set in. She told the outlet: 'And I'm like, "Wow, this truly is something that I've dreamed of." And just to see it coming about is incredible and kind of hard to believe. It's a dream come true.' Jana's sister, Jessa Duggar, was her maid of honor, her sister-in-law, Abbie Duggar, and sisters Joy-Anna Forsyth, Johannah Duggar, Jinger Duggar and Jordyn Duggar were bridesmaids according to the publication. Jill, 33, who is the closest in age to the bride was notably not named as one of the bridesmaids. She modeled a modest off-the-shoulder ivory A-line dress as her father walked her down the aisle arm in arm with her father Jim Bob Duggar as Holy, Holy, Holy by Audrey Assad played. 'The dress felt classy and a bit like a princess,' she said recalling the moment. The 35-year old Counting On star announced that she was pregnant in a joint Instagram post with 32-year-old pastor of East Fairview Mennonite Church in Milford, Nebraska which was shared on Monday They shared three photos from a pregnancy announcement shoot including a black and white snap of them kissing. Explaining her taste for minimalistic decor she shared, 'The venue is already so gorgeous and picturesque that I didn't want to take too much from that. The guys will be in black suits, the girls in champagne-colored dresses, and then just white flowers and greener.' Because both Jana and Stephen come from big families, they wanted to ensure both sides played a part in the day they said 'I do.' 'Coming from two bigger families (Wissmann being one of 13 siblings), we love to be able to get together and celebrate moments like these. And so to have all of them there, it just means a lot,' she said. The TLC alum and the Nebraska native initially met through their families sometime in 2011. She said recalling their meeting: '[Stephen's family] would travel and sing. I remember them coming to our home, probably 13 or so years ago and they ended up getting snowed-in here, which hardly ever happens in Arkansas 'I remember just playing games late into the night, doing puzzles together until the snow melted off, and they were able to travel back home. I don't really remember Stephen that well because I'm older than him and so he was not at all on my radar,' she said. Years later, they reconnected and dated briefly before breaking things off. Then in December of 2020 they rekindled their flame after realizing they 'enjoy each other.' She explained: 'I had been a slower mover on it, but just over time, his character, his coming back, still loving me no matter what. I know we have a big crazy family and still kind of putting up with a lot of things. I'm like, my goodness, there are not too many people that do that. He must really, genuinely care about me. 'It takes me a bit to open up, but I think just his continuing to be there, no matter what, through ups and downs. He's been a good friend over the years and has not pressured me in a lot of ways,' she said of her now husband. As for their plans after becoming man and wife, Jana confirmed that she will move to Nebraska to live with Stephen who finds work in the irrigation system install business. Meanwhile Jana's sister Jill has been estranged from the family for quite sometime. In Amazon Prime's four-part docuseries, entitled Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets, Jill railed against her parents and accused them of 'taking advantage' of her and her siblings by tricking them into signing contracts and forcing them to be take part in the family's numerous reality shows against their will - without pay. It's been reported that the Duggars received $18 million over the course of their 21 seasons on TV, but according to Jill, it all went into her father's pocket. When asked if they ever received money for their time in the show, Jill stated: 'No. I never received any payout. 'No check, no cash, no nothing. For seven-and-a-half years of my adult life, I was never paid. We were taken advantage of.' During the doc, which premiered in June 2023, Jill also shared some of the extreme measures that her dad took to try to cover up brother Josh's molestation of his own sisters - and recalled how she was forced to defend him on national television to prevent the family's hit reality show from being canceled. She explained that when news of Josh's alleged abuse was made public in 2015, her dad's main focus was protecting the family's squeaky-clean reputation - rather than the victims. The former reality star went on to release her own tome, called Counting The Cost, in September, and in it, she shared even more of her family's secrets, claiming her dad 'treated her worse' than he 'treated her pedophile brother.' She spoke about her dad's reaction to the book to the Today show days after it came out. 'My dad texted the entire family group text [since we're still in the group thread] and he was just saying, "This is so sad,"' she revealed. 'He basically threatening that if anybody speaks out against him or my mom that they would be cut out of the inheritance.' When asked about their relationship at the time, she described it as 'complicated.' 'We just had to draw some pretty strict boundaries and just put things in a healthier place,' she explained. 'There just hasn't been a whole lot of change. And again, we don't expect people to change. 'So while I love my parents and I respect them and honor them, I just have to prioritize our family unit and do what's best and healthy for Derek and I and our kids.' She also recalled how she was forced to defend him on national television (seen) to prevent the family's hit reality show from being canceled The former reality star went on to release her own tome, called Counting The Cost, in September, and in it, she shared even more of her family's secrets Back in January, she and her husband, Derick, 35, admitted that they couldn't remember the 'last time' they had seen Jim Bob - and that it was at least a year prior At the time, she said she would see her mother while 'celebrating birthdays and some holidays,' but as for her father, she said she did not have any 'individual contact with him.' 'My relationship with my dad got pretty toxic to the point where we had to cut off individual contact with him,' she shared. 'It got to the point where Derick was there to step in and kind of say, "Hey, don't reach out to my wife individually or else I'll have to file a protective order," just because it was so hard for me to handle.' At the time, she said she 'hoped for a reconciliation' but said there needed to be 'change' first. 'We do love our family ultimately, and I would love for my kids to have their grandparents involved more in their lives, but we also want to make sure that it's a healthy relationship,' she stated. In January 2024, during an appearance on The Unplanned Podcast, Jill confirmed that she had seen Michelle recently, but when she was asked about the last time she saw her dad, she couldn't even remember. Derick said he thought it was when their son, Freddy, was born in July 2022, to which Jill added, 'Was it that? Or was it a wedding? I can't remember.'
