Pocso-accused woman teacher granted bail

Time of India27-05-2025

Surat: A Surat court on Monday granted bail — with certain conditions — to the 23-year-old woman teacher who is accused of offences under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.
During the hearing of the bail plea, the teacher's advocate, Vaajid Shaikh, argued that she had been wrongly accused as the sections pertaining to 'penetrative sex' were incorrectly invoked by police. He said that a woman cannot carry out penetrative assault on a male. Shaikh also mentioned discrepancies in the victim's age, as the FIR and investigation state the victim's age as 11 and 13 respectively.
Shaikh argued: "Pocso Sections 4, 6, 8 and 12 were wrongly invoked in the case, as a woman cannot perpetrate penetrative assault on a male.
Only a male can penetrate. Thus, these sections are not relevant to my female client. Police have made a serious mistake in the FIR in this regard."
As the accused went for an abortion, it was also argued that she is having a stressful time. "After the abortion, the accused can be subject to mental and emotional shock. Due to the emotional setback, she may go into depression or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The age of the victim was shown as 11 years at the time of the FIR, while during the investigation, it was revealed he had crossed 13 years.

This raises doubts about the victim's maturity.
"
On the victim's side, the public prosecutor opposed bail and argued: "The accused gave tuitions to the victim and sexually exploited him when no one was at her home. She abducted him on April 25 and stayed with him at hotels and cities where she had physical relations with the victim. As the victim's future has been adversely affected by this incident, it is possible that the accused will not be afraid of the law if granted bail.
It is possible that she may target another child in the future. She may also tamper with the evidence. So, she should not be granted bail."
After hearing both sides, the court observed: "The probe related to the crime is near an end. As the abortion is completed and evidence related to that has also been collected, there is not much recovery or discovery left in the case. As the trial may take a long time to be completed, it seems appropriate to grant the accused bail." The court laid down certain conditions while granting bail.

The selection and training were carried out in collaboration with the Dubai Chess and Culture Club, which provided mentorship and strategic guidance throughout the process. Man killed after accusing another of affair with relative in Bhavnagar

Rajkot: A man was murdered in Bharoli village of Talaja taluka of Bhavnagar district, allegedly by a man he accused of having an extramarital relationship with his relative. The crime occurred on the night of June 3, but the complaint was filed three days later. The deceased, Ashok Parmar, was reportedly assaulted by Lagdhir Gohil after an heated argument. The FIR was registered by the relative, Chetna Parmar. Chetna is widowed. She lives with her three children in a hut on the farm of Ghelubha Ajubha, where she works as a labourer. The hut has no electricity or amenities. According to Chetna's complaint, Ashok visited her on the night of June 3 with mutton and asked her to cook it. While she was cooking the meal, Gohil arrived at the hut, which upset Ashok and led to an argument. Ashok accused Gohil of having an affair with Chetna, after which matters heated up. During the altercation, Gohil allegedly threw a stone that hit Ashok in the face, rendering him unconscious. He then kicked Ashok in the chest and other parts of the body. As Ashok remained unresponsive, Gohil told Chetna he was drunk and would wake up in the morning. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Windows Users Don't Forget To Do This Before Saturday Read More Undo Gohil also threatened to kill her children if she spoke about the altercation. Bengaluru stampede: Compensation raised to Rs 25 Lakh; KSCA secretary, treasurer resign NEW DELHI: Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah has announced an increase in compensation for the families of those who died in the tragic stampede outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium to Rs 25 lakh each, up from the earlier Rs 10 lakh. The incident on June 4, during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) IPL victory celebration, claimed 11 lives and injured 56 others. The decision comes as part of the government's broader response to the tragedy, which has triggered public outrage over mismanagement and a lack of crowd control at the high-profile event. Retired HC judge to lead inquiry The Karnataka government has constituted a one-man inquiry commission under retired High Court judge John Michael Cunha to investigate the circumstances leading to the stampede. The commission will identify lapses, omissions, and those responsible, and recommend measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. As per the government's directive, the panel is expected to submit its report within 30 days. An official notification dated June 5 confirmed that the commission will function under the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1952, with full powers to summon witnesses and examine evidence under the Civil Procedure Code. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Colorado: Gov Will Cover Your Cost To Install Solar If You Live In These Zips SunValue Learn More Undo KSCA officials resign In the wake of the tragedy, two top officials of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), secretary A Shankar and treasurer ES Jairam, resigned from their posts on Saturday, taking "moral responsibility" for the stampede. We have nothing to hide," Bhat told reporters. He added that the KSCA would provide all necessary support to the ongoing investigation and emphasised that transparency would be maintained throughout the process. The stampede occurred outside the stadium on the evening of June 4 as thousands gathered for the RCB team's celebratory event after winning their maiden IPL title. The crowd swelled beyond control, triggering a deadly rush that led to multiple fatalities and injuries.
