A CNBC report stated that the pricing structure for Fox One has not been finalised yet. CEO
Lachlan Murdoch
, however, told media it would reflect the cost of pay-TV wholesale rates and would not undercut cable bundles.
Live Events
Murdoch claimed it would be a failure if they lost cable viewers and attracted more connected subscribers. He affirmed that Fox wants to expand their audience and not sever existing cable consumers.
The cable subscribers will have access to Fox One without additional costs, the report added.
Fox Corporation has also revealed plans that Fox One, which is being launched to attract audiences who prefer to stream, will be bundled with other streaming services and distributors. Murdoch noted that several platforms had reached out to Fox for bundling partnerships and a number of those will be confirmed soon.

Pak hikes defence spending by 20% in budget amid tense relations with India

Pakistan on Tuesday increased its defence budget by 20 per cent, allocating PRs. 2,550 billion (USD 9 billion) for the fiscal year 2025-26, amid tensions with India. Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb presented the PRs. (Pakistani Rupees) 17,573 billion worth federal budget for the fiscal year 2025–26 in the National Assembly. He also presented the budget document as a finance bill in the National Assembly. In his speech, the minister said that the government has 'decided to allocate PRs. 2,550 for the defence of the country'. He didn't provide any further details about the defence spending as traditionally the defence budget is not discussed by the parliament. Last year, the government allocated PRs. 2,122 billion for defence, reflecting a 14.98 per cent increase over PRs. 1,804 billion budgeted for the fiscal year 2023-24. 'This budget is being presented at a historic time when the nation showed unity [and] determination,' the minister said at the start while mentioning the recent Pak-India conflict. Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, with India carrying out precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7. The on-ground hostilities from the Indian and Pakistan sides that lasted for four days ended with an understanding of stopping the military actions following talks between the directors general of military operations of both sides on May 10. The defence sector expenses are the second-biggest component of the annual expenditure after the debt payments. The government allocated PRs. 8,207 billion for debt servicing, which constitutes the single biggest expense. The increase in the defence expenditure is expected to get the broad support of the lawmakers during the budget debate and voting on the finance bill. Aurangzeb also announced a 4.2 per cent GDP growth target for the economy which is higher than the 2.7 per cent achieved in the current year ending on June 30. He said that debt and interest servicing would cost PRs. 8,207 billion. Other key expenses include PRs. 971 billion for civil administration, PRs. 1,186 billion for subsidies, PRs. 1,055 billion for pensions and PRs. 1,000 billion for the Public Sector Development Programme. He said that the target for inflation was 7.5 per cent and the fiscal deficit target was 3.9 per cent as the government also announced to contain the deficit and achieve a primary surplus. The minister said that the government has set an ambitious tax collection target for the Federal Board of Revenue at PRs. 14,131 billion, an 8.95 per cent increase from last year's goal. Aurangzeb said that the main success of the government was that inflation was reduced to 4.7 per cent in the outgoing fiscal whereas it was 29.2 per cent two years ago, while the government achieved a current account surplus of USD 1.5 billion. He said the forex reserves will touch USD 14 billion by the end of the year and remittances were expected to reach USD 38 billion.

To cut costs, Google offers voluntary exits in search, ads, and engineering teams

Google has offered voluntary buyouts to employees across several divisions, including its Search unit, as part of ongoing efforts to reduce its workforce, CNBC reported on Tuesday. The buyouts have been extended to workers in various departments such as knowledge and information (K-I), central engineering, marketing, research, and communications. The K-I division includes Google's major businesses like Search, Ads, and Commerce. According to CNBC, the move is part of Google's broader cost-cutting strategy, which began last year with the layoff of around 12,000 employees. The program, referred to as a 'voluntary exit program' (VEP), is currently offered to US-based employees. The exact number of employees affected by this latest offer has not been confirmed yet. Meanwhile, some teams are requiring remote employees who live within 50 miles of a Google office to begin working in a hybrid model to encourage more in-person collaboration. 'Earlier this year, some of our teams introduced a voluntary exit program with severance for US-based Googlers, and several more are now offering the program to support our important work ahead,' Google spokesperson Courtenay Mencini said in a statement to CNBC. The buyouts come at a time when Google is increasing its investment in artificial intelligence (AI). In October, the company's new finance chief, Anat Ashkenazi, named cost-cutting a top priority to fund future AI infrastructure spending. According to the report, K&I, which employs about 20,000 people, was reorganised in October, with executive Nick Fox taking charge. In a memo viewed by CNBC, Fox encouraged employees who are not aligned with the company's direction or struggling to meet expectations to consider the buyout. 'I want to be very clear: If you're excited about your work, energized by the opportunity ahead, and performing well, I really (really!) hope you don't take this!" Fox wrote. "We have ambitious plans and tons to get done. On the other hand, this VEP offers a supportive exit path for those of you who don't feel aligned with our strategy, don't feel energized by your work, or are having difficulty meeting the expectations of your role.' This year alone, Google has rolled out multiple buyout programs across different units, suggesting it is now using them as a preferred method to reduce staff while avoiding forced layoffs.
