He said the Public Service Department (JPA) would hold discussions with the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) to further examine the proposal.
'We have just received the proposal. Perhaps because the Fire and Rescue Department views it as a requirement, they were quick to announce it.
'Insya-Allah, we will examine it with the Fire and Rescue Department and also the KPKT. If there is a justification for the request, and there is a basis for us to assist, we will do so,' he told a press conference after a meeting with Perak state civil servants at the Perak Darul Ridzuan Building here today.
It was reported that the implementation of the HRM for firefighters, initially scheduled for May 1, had been postponed.
In another development, Wan Ahmad Dahlan said matters related to the implementation of the MySTEP scheme fell under the responsibility of the respective ministries.
'MySTEP is under the jurisdiction of the respective ministries. The Ministry of Finance grants approval, but the respective ministries will decide on it,' he said.
Yesterday, the Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (CUEPACS) called on the government to reconsider its plan to implement the MySTEP employment scheme for Price Monitoring Officers under the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living.
CUEPACS president Datuk Adnan Mat expressed strong opposition to the move, warning that the shift to the MySTEP scheme, which offers significantly lower wages than the current Contract for Service arrangement, would severely impact the quality of life for these officers.
Meanwhile, Wan Ahmad Dahlan said that approximately 80 per cent of civil servants in Putrajaya were overweight and urged them to prioritise a healthy diet, alongside practising a healthy lifestyle through exercise and engaging in sports activities.

KPKT seeks 2026 budget boost for 10,000 infrastructure projects
TAIPING: The Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) is requesting extra funds in the 2026 Budget to expand public infrastructure projects to 10,000 annually. Minister Nga Kor Ming confirmed the proposal will be submitted to the Finance Ministry this month. Last year, KPKT executed 6,611 projects, ranking it as Malaysia's top-performing ministry. 'This year, we are aiming 10,000 public infrastructure projects in a single year,' Nga said during the Sentuhan Kasih KPKT Taiping event. The press conference was attended by Taiping MP Wong Kah Woh and senior officials from local government and landscape departments. Nga inspected key sites, including Kamunting Public Market and the Taiping Lake Fountain Beautification Project. An additional RM10.4 million has been allocated for 35 infrastructure projects in Taiping. These include upgrades in Bandar Taiping City and landscape development at Lapang Tanjung Sungai Mas. Non-Muslim houses of worship and 24 housing initiatives are also part of the approved plans. 'All projects under the fifth Rolling Plan will start promptly and finish by year-end,' Nga added. Amendments to tourism law and STRA framework to be presented soon
by HIDAYATH HISHAM AMENDMENTS to the Tourism Industry Act 1992 and a revised framework for short-term rental accommodations (STRA) are nearing completion, with the government preparing to table the changes to address regulatory overlaps between ministries and local authorities. Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) Deputy Minister Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan said the draft bill is expected to be tabled in Parliament by the end of this year or early 2026, after completing a nationwide stakeholder engagement. 'MOTAC has completed the initial review process of the Tourism Industry Act 1992 (Act 482). The amended act is expected to be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat by the end of this year or early 2026,' he told the Dewan Rakyat today. He was responding to Aminolhuda Hassan (Pakatan Harapan [PH]-Sri Gading), who asked whether the government intends to harmonise STRA guidelines with the existing tourism law to avoid duplication of powers between MOTAC and the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT). Khairul Firdaus said the review involved 54 engagement sessions with nearly 1,000 participants from ministries, agencies, NGOs and industry players nationwide, including from Sabah and Sarawak. The proposed amendments cover licensing, insurance protection, enforcement, digital platform registration and the formation of a tourism tribunal. As for STRA registration, he explained that a consensus has been reached with KPKT that no STRA unit may register with MOTAC unless it has first received a business licence from the local authority. 'STRA premises may only be registered as tourist accommodations after obtaining an operating business licence from the local authority,' he said. Khairul Firdaus said that STRA licensing and enforcement fall under the jurisdiction of local councils, while MOTAC only has authority to register accommodation premises under the 1992 Act. To address this, KPKT through PLANMalaysia will present a national STRA planning guideline to the Cabinet soon, before it is brought to the National Council for Local Government. Khairul Firdaus acknowledged that rural operators, especially homestay providers, may face challenges once new rules are implemented. He said MOTAC is working to strengthen the homestay sector through its Industry Development Division, particularly in villages and remote areas. 'In terms of incentives, we are still working within a framework to determine how more effective incentives can be provided to operators, so they are able to generate income that is truly sustainable,' he said.
