Youth must follow Chandy's path, says Rahul Gandhi
Leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi fondly remembered Chandy saying that the former chief minister was a guru to him in many ways and was a guru for many people in Kerala. The Congress leader also said that a guru shows directions through his actions, and Chandy showed us the direction not by talking or thinking, but through his actions. Gandhi also urged the youth in the state to follow Chandy's footsteps.
Gandhi said that in the 21 years of his political life, Chandy was a great influence as he was the master of understanding people's feelings.
"I literally saw him kill himself for the people of Kerala," said Gandhi, referring to Chandy's participation in the Bharat Jodo Yatra in 2022 during which the former chief minister walked alongside Gandhi despite doctors' request against doing so.
Gandhi recollected that when he told Chandy about what the doctors said, he refused to obey. Gandhi said he finally managed to persuade Chandy to stop walking after a certain distance.
"We had to literally forcibly take him back to the car," said Gandhi, adding that only a leader who feels for the people can do that.
"For me, Chandy is not just an individual but an expression of Kerala politics. My aspiration is to develop more and more people like Chandy," Gandhi added.
Gandhi also said that he learned a lot from Chandy. "He got the most brutal and unfair political attack on him, which I would say was a criminal attack.
Non-stop lies were spread about him. I used to talk to him over the phone regularly those days. I never heard him speak angrily about anyone. He was always balanced and humble," he said.
Gandhi said Chandy implemented cochlear implantation for children with hearing loss. This is a very rare disease, and he did not undertake this aiming for a vote bank. He only wanted every single child to hear the voice of others. "This is the politics of realising the feelings of others," he said, adding that this is where he fights with the ideologies of RSS and CPM.
"My biggest complaint is that they do not have a feeling for people," he said.
"You are not a leader if you do not feel with the people or if you are not ready to connect with the people," he said. Gandhi also said that the biggest tragedy of Indian politics is that there are only a few people who actually feel what others are feeling. Gandhi concluded by stating that it was a great honour for him to take part in the remembrance meet.
During the function, Gandhi inaugurated the Smrithi Tharangam programme implemented by KPCC. KPCC president Sunny Joseph presided over the event. Gandhi also handed over the keys of 11 houses constructed by Oommen Chandy Foundation.
Various religious leaders, Congress leaders and people's representatives spoke on the occasion.

"Has His Reasons": Shashi Tharoor On Rahul Gandhi's "Dead Economy" Remark
Mumbai: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Saturday refused to comment on party leader Rahul Gandhi's endorsing US President Donald Trump's 'dead economy' remark about India and said the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha may have had his "own reasons" for saying so. The remarks came after Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Thursday agreed with US President Donald Trump's statement that the Indian economy is "dead" and said he is "glad" that the US President has stated a fact. Speaking to the mediapersons, Tharoor said, "I don't want to comment on what my party leader has said. He has his reasons for saying so. My concern is that our relationship with the US, as a strategic and economic partnership, is important for us. We are exporting around 90 billion worth of goods to America. We can't be in a position to lose that or have it diminish significantly." "We must wish our negotiators strength to get a fair deal for India. We should also be talking to other regions for exporting our goods. Then we could make up for some of what we might lose in the US. We have to support our negotiators," he added. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Thursday agreed with US President Donald Trump's statement that the Indian economy is "dead" and said he is "glad" that the US President has stated a fact. Speaking to reporters, Rahul Gandhi said that the whole world knows the Indian economy is "dead" except for the Prime Minister and Finance Minister. "Yes, he is right. Everybody knows this except the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister. Everybody knows that the Indian economy is a dead economy. I am glad that President Trump has stated a fact. The entire world knows that the Indian economy is a dead economy. BJP has finished the economy to help Adani," Rahul Gandhi said. On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump made a shocking statement on his social media platform Truth Social after the announcement of 25 percent tariffs against India and threatened an additional "penalty" for importing Russian oil.

Tharoor‘s blunt take on Trump's 'dead economy' remark, PM Modi, says 'I'm the wrong person to ask…'
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Friday rejected US President Donald Trump's "dead economy" remark for India. The Republican leader had made the statement after the announcement of 25 per cent tariffs for India, attributing the duties largely to the country buying arms and oil from Russia, and its "far too high" tariffs for the US. KCR's corruption exposed in Kaleshwaram, says Mahesh Goud
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud said that the Judicial Commission on the irregularities in Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project pointed all fingers towards former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao in the massive irregularities in the planning and execution of the project. 'I have seen media reports on the Kaleshwaram Commission clearly holding KCR and his team responsible for the enormous violations leading to poor quality of construction,' he said arguing that the report has revealed what the Congress had been saying all along. 'Thousands of crores were wasted in the name of irrigation development, but the reality is that the Kaleshwaram project was driven by personal gain,' he said during his Janahita padayatra in Armoor on Saturday. Mr. Goud accused KCR of completely ignoring expert advice and overstepping technical guidelines. 'Engineers were silenced, and the project was built as per the whims and fancies of KCR so that they could make money. The project failure isn't just inefficiency but criminal negligence,' he said. He reiterated that the Congress government will ensure accountability and justice, holding those responsible for such scams answerable to the people of Telangana. He also blamed KCR and former minister for Irrigation Harish Rao for Andhra Pradesh pushing the controversial Banakacherla project as the BRS had made backdoor agreements with Andhra Pradesh during their tenure. Earlier in the day, AICC in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha, and Mahesh Kumar Goud participated in Shramadanam activities with students at Jogipet Degree College. Minister D. Seethakkha, MLA Madan Mohan Rao, Advisor to Government Shabbir Ali and AICC secretary Sampath Kumar also joined the padayatra. Mr. Goud further said that the credit for the historic decision of 42% reservations to Backward Classes goes to the Congress Party, which introduced it through the Kamareddy Declaration. 'It is Rahul Gandhi's leadership that made this possible,' he declared. He wondered why BRS MLC K Kavitha was making noise when she was silent during her father's regime.
