Yahoo17-07-2025
Beyoncé and her husband Jay-Z are going head-to-head in a marquee category for the 2025 Primetime Emmy Awards. The Netflix special Beyoncé Bowl is competing for outstanding variety special (live) with The Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show Starring Kendrick Lamar – which Jay-Z executive produced. Both programs received four nominations.
Beyoncé was also nominated for outstanding directing for a variety special, a nod she shares with Alex Rudzinksi. This brings her career nominations total to 10. Beyoncé, a 35-time Grammy winner, has yet to win an Emmy. Jay has won two Emmys – outstanding variety special live in 2022 as an executive producer of The Pepsi Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show Starring Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, 50 Cent and outstanding directing for a variety special the following year for The Apple Music Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show Starring Rihanna.

GWAR's Blöthar Urges Americans to 'Rise Up!' Against Trump Effort to Defund Public Media: 'This Could Very Well Silence the Music'
This year's other nominees for outstanding variety special (live) are the 2025 Oscars (ABC) and a pair of specials saluting Saturday Night Live's 50th anniversary — SNL50: The Anniversary Special (NBC) and SNL50: The Homecoming Concert (Peacock).
Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar were the top winners at the 2025 Grammys, where Beyoncé finally won album of the year for the first time, and Lamar swept all five awards for which he was nominated, including record and song of the year. Both stars elected not to perform on the Grammys, which was passed over for a nod for outstanding variety special (live).
Severance was this year's most nominated program with 27 nods, but if you combine Saturday Night Live and the various 50th anniversary salutes to that legendary show, they collectively received even more nods with 31.
Questlove received three nominations for his work on three different programs — outstanding directing for a documentary/nonfiction program for Ladies & Gentlemen…50 Years of SNL Music (alongside Oz Rodriguez); outstanding music direction for SNL50: The Homecoming Concert (alongside James Poyser); and outstanding documentary or nonfiction special for Sly Lives! (Aka The Burden of Black Genius). These are Questlove's first Emmy nods. He has won six Grammys and an Oscar.
Many other top music stars or programs were nominated in various categories.
Selena Gomez is nominated for outstanding comedy series as an executive producer of Hulu's Only Murders in the Building. This is her fourth consecutive nomination in that category, which extends her Emmy record as the Latina producer with the most nods. She was passed over this year for outstanding lead actress in a comedy series, a category in which she was nominated last year.
Cynthia Erivo, who was nominated for an Oscar earlier this year for her lead performance in Wicked, is nominated for outstanding guest actress in a comedy series for Peacock's Poker Face. This is her second Primetime Emmy nod.
I Am Celine Dion (Prime Video) is among the nominees for exceptional merit. Shawn Mendes: Red Rocks Live in VR is among the nominees for outstanding emerging media.
Julie Andrews received her 12th Primetime Emmy nod, this time for outstanding character voiceover performance for Bridgerton (Netflix). The legendary star landed her first Primetime Emmy nod in 1958 – actress, best single performance – lead or support – for her role in CBS' broadcast of Cinderella. This is the longest span of nominations in Emmy history.
Conan O'Brien: The Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize for American Humor is nominated for outstanding variety special (pre-recorded), where it is competing with five stand-up specials – by Adam Sandler, Ali Wong, Sarah Silverman and Nate Bargatze (all on Netflix) and Bill Burr (on Hulu). Bargatze is hosting this year's Primetime Emmys.
Conan O'Brien, who hosted the Oscars in January and is set to host the 2026 Oscars, is also nominated for outstanding hosted nonfiction for Conan O'Brien Must Go (HBO Max). His competition includes My Next Guest Needs No Introduction (Netflix), hosted by fellow talk show legend (and former Oscar host) David Letterman.
In the reality competition category, NBC's The Voice was shut out for the first time since 2011, when it was in its debut season. The nominees are The Traitors (Peacock), which won last year; CBS's The Amazing Race, which has won 10 times in the category; RuPaul's Drag Race (MTV), which has won five times; Top Chef (Bravo), which won in 2010); and CBS's Survivor, which has yet to win in the category.
The Daily Show, The Late Show With Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel Live! are the three nominees for outstanding talk series. The Daily Show has won it (or a predecessor category) 13 times. This would be the first win for this either of the other shows (though Colbert won twice for his previous series, The Colbert Report.) There are only three slots this year because there were only 13 submissions in the category. That was a bad break for Late Night With Seth Meyers, which was nominated the last three years. The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon was passed over in the category for the ninth consecutive year. That's the longest The Tonight Show has ever gone without a nod in this category since the show went on the air in 1954.
Saturday Night Live (NBC) and Last Week Tonight With John Oliver (HBO Max) are the two nominees for outstanding scripted variety series. This is a real battle of the heavyweights: SNL won in this category six years in a row, until 2023, when Oliver's program was moved into this category. His show won the last two years. Last Week Tonight has won nine Emmys in top series categories. SNL has won eight.
Hamish Hamilton has two nominations for outstanding directing for a variety special. He's nominated for both the Oscars and the Kendrick Lamar half-time show.
Barack Obama is nominated for outstanding narrator for Our Oceans (Netflix). The former president has won twice in that category, for Our Great National Parks (2022) and Working: What We Do All Day (2023). If he wins, he'll have more Emmys to his name than Grammys (two).
Ken Jennings, host of Jeopardy (ABC), is competing for outstanding game show host with, among others, Colin Jost, host of the new Prime Video spin-off, Pop Culture Jeopardy. The other nominees in the category are Elizabeth Banks (Press Your Luck), Steve Harvey (Celebrity Family Feud) and Jimmy Kimmel (Who Wants to Be a Millionaire).
Two Oscar-winning directors, Martin Scorsese and Ron Howard, are among those competing for outstanding guest actor in a comedy series, both for their roles on The Studio (Apple TV+). This is Howard's first Emmy nomination for acting. He started out as an actor on The Andy Griffith Show and Happy Days.
First-round voting runs from Aug. 18-27. The Creative Arts Emmys will be will be presented over two nights, Saturday, Sept. 6, and Sunday, Sept. 7, at the Peacock Theater at L.A. Live. Highlights from the two ceremonies will air Saturday, Sept. 13, at 8:00 PM PT on FXX.
The Primetime Emmys will be telecast live coast-to-coast on Sunday Sept. 14 from 8:00-11:00 PM ET/5:00-8:00 PM PT) on CBS and available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+.

Everyone Is Laughing At This Podcast Host's BRUTAL Takedown Of Three-Time MAGA Voters

Former Bravo star and current I've Had It podcast host Jennifer Welch is going absolutely viral for delivering what people are calling "a read that will live on in infamy." During a recent episode of Jennifer's podcast, she starts her monologue, "I've had it with white people that triple Trump-ed that have the nerve and the audacity to walk into a Mexican restaurant, a Chinese restaurant, an Indian restaurant. Go to, perhaps, their gay hairdresser." YouTube: I've Had It Podcast / Related: "I don't think you should be able to enjoy anything but Cracker Barrel," she continued. "And if you want to triple Trump, and you want to browbeat DEI, and you want to browbeat gay people, and you want to browbeat Black people as you've been doing for 400 years. And you want to browbeat this generation of immigrants that come over here and open up businesses earnestly, pay their taxes. You want to demonize them and call them rapists and felons and all this shit." "The felon is the teeny, weeny, mushroom cock piece of shit, cankles McTacoTits at the top of the ticket," she pressed on. "I have fucking had it from top to bottom." YouTube: I've Had It Podcast / "White people that triple Trump should be banned, boycotted from enjoying the best thing that America has to offer, which is multiculturalism." YouTube: I've Had It Podcast / Related: A clip of Jennifer's passionate take made its way to X, formerly known as Twitter, where it's been viewed over a whopping 16.3 million times. "This is the most savage takedown of anyone I've ever heard in my life," one commenter reacted. Related: "Well, if there was ever a person who had the right to free speech and chose to use it freely," another agreed. Someone said Jennifer gave, "A read for the ages." Overall, she's being largely applauded by non-MAGA voices. One person said, "She's right... If you genuinely hate immigrants & minorities that much, you're not allowed to partake in any part of the culture they've brought with them." TikTok's ‘I'll Be There' Trend Hints at Teens' Obsessions (& Annoyances!) Right Now

Teens are poking a little fun at themselves — and their surroundings — in the funniest new TikTok trend. Because taking yourself too seriously is not cool! The 'I'll Be There' trend hints at what teens are obsessed with and annoyed with right now, and we can't stop laughing at some of these hilarious examples. The 'I'll Be There' trend utilizes a viral sound by 'Moldy Egg,' which features soft music and the words, 'Every night, at dinner, I'll be there. Every birthday part, I'll be there. Every Christmas, I'll be thereeeeee.' The sound itself comes from a clip from Boss Baby, where Boss Baby (voiced by Alec Baldwin) promises his older brother Tim Templeton that he will never be able to escape his younger sibling. Teens are using it to show the things they will never escape in their lives, too. More from SheKnows Parents of Tweens & Teens: Here's How to Take the Stress Out of Back-to-School Season For example, one girl shared a video that says, 'How it feels to always have a double chin' set to the sound. She shares photos of herself from prom, graduation, and other places, then zooms in on her double chin during each of the 'I'll be there' parts of the sound. Another teen jokes that she always has this accessory with her. 'pov you chronically wear your airpods,' she wrote over a video featuring pictures of her giving blood, dressing up, and even getting her driver license photo taken with an Airpod in her ears. One girl with chapped lips said in a video, 'How it feels bringing Aquaphor EVERYWHERE.' On the football field after graduation, eating at a restaurant, going to the beach, and more, she had a tube of Aquaphor in her hands. In the spirit of Boss Baby, another funny video showed her twin brother by her side all the time. 'being a twin means never having your own birthday party,' she wrote, alongside photos of her and her twin brother throughout childhood. Realizing these little obsessions we have (or annoyances) is a great way to find the humor in life, and we love seeing the silly and funny side of teen culture right now. Gen Z seems to be experts at finding old quotes from movies and TV shows and repurposing them into funny new trends. Like how teens are saying, 'start digging in your butt, twin,' from an old SpongeBob SquarePants episode or 'rhymes with Grug' from The Croods. Giada De Laurentiis says she cried after this famed chef credited her success to 'big boobs' in cookbook foreword

In a recent interview, the Food Network star said her editor had to completely rewrite the introduction before her 2005 debut cookbook was published. Giada De Laurentiis recently recalled crying after she read the disparaging comments that, she says, chef Mario Batali wrote about her in a foreword for her first cookbook. The Italian-born chef, cookbook author and Food Network regular joined host Samah Dada on her YouTube show On the Menu on July 29. In a clip from the episode shared on TikTok on Aug. 11, De Laurentiis told Dada she had a story about a person she was 'not supposed to talk about' but was 'going to.' That person was Batali, who De Laurentiis worked with at the Food Network early in her culinary career. De Laurentiis explained that she had asked Batali to write a foreword to her first cookbook, Everyday Italian, which debuted in 2005, as Batali was 'a legend in the Italian space' at the time. She said his 'stamp of approval' would have been 'huge' for her, and she was happy when he agreed to write it. 'When I read it, I cried because I realized, 'Oh, he's basically saying that I've gotten to where I've gotten, and I've had this little bit of success that I had, because I have big boobs, and that if he had boobs, he would even be much further,'' De Laurentiis recalled. 'Because I'm like, a joke, right? Like, to him, it was like a little bit of a joke.' De Laurentiis said she called her editor 'in tears,' knowing she could not use what Batali allegedly wrote in the intro of her book. Her editor said they would rewrite his foreword and send it to him for approval, which they did. 'So we rewrote it, but I will never forget that,' she said. 'That's basically what a lot of people figured: cute girl with big boobs, so that's why they're watching her.' The final version of De Laurentiis's foreword is flattering toward the author and focuses on her talents in the art of Italian cuisine. 'It turns out that Giada is smart, Italian-speaking, and family-oriented — the three qualities my grandma hoped I'd find in a girl to marry. (Too late for that.) She's also a great cook, highly knowledgeable about food, and a huge amount of fun to be around — the three qualities I'd hope to find in a television partner,' Batali's foreword reads. Batali has not commented on De Laurentiis's account of what he wrote. Batali is a famed American chef, known for his Italian cooking style. He previously had multiple restaurants across the globe and was a co-host of ABC's The Chew from 2011 to 2017. In 2017, Batali was accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women in an article on the food website Eater. Following the allegations, Batali stepped away from his restaurant empire and was asked by ABC to take leave from the talk show. In 2018, De Laurentiis appeared on the podcast Eater Upsell and stated that she was not surprised to learn of the allegations against Batali. 'I did not have those exact experiences with him, but it doesn't come as a huge shock,' she said at the time. 'Anybody who's ever hung out with Mario knows he's a very charismatic person,' she continued. 'We drink too much and sometimes … I'm not legitimizing it by any means. I know I've been through my own issues in this business. I think any woman in any business goes through stuff. It's just sad, you know? It's time, but it's also sad. It's a combo, and I think we all feel both.' Solve the daily Crossword
