Suryakumar Yadav Breaks Sachin Tendulkar's 15-Year-Old Historic Record For MI In IPL
Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya pushed Mumbai Indians to 184 for seven despite a decent bowling effort from Punjab Kings in the penultimate league fixture of the Indian Premier League here on Monday. With both teams needing a win to seal a top-two spot in the standings, Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer put Mumbai Indians in to bat at a venue that has produced 200-plus first innings scores for majority of the season. Suryakumar (57 off 39 balls), who has been a picture of consistency this season, broke Sachin Tendulkar 's record (618, IPL 2010) to become the highest run scorer (628 so far in IPL 2025) for the Mumbai outfit in an IPL season. Though opener Ryan Rickelton (27 off 20) played some sublime strokes, Mumbai Indians could get 52 for one in the powerplay. Arshdeep Singh swung the ball both ways in the opening over of the game, troubling Rickelton who managed to survive. In the following over, Rickelton got a couple of boundaries from Kyle Jamieson, who was making his debut for Punjab Kings. Rohit Sharma (24 off 21) was slow off the blocks before a straight hit over mid-off against Marco Jansen got him going. Jansen, playing his final game of the season for Punjab Kings, induced a mishit from Rickelton that had the opener caught at mid-on in the sixth over. In the absence of Yuzvendra Chahal, left-arm spinner Harpreet Brar was up to the task again in the middle overs and got the prized wicket of Rohit, whose mishit was brilliantly pouched by Nehal Wadhera at long-on. At 106 for four in the 13th over, Punjab Kings controlled the proceedings. Hardik would have been out on the first legal ball he faced but Vijaykumar Vyshak missed a regulation return catch. Vyshak too played a big role in keeping Mumbai Indians batters in check by removing Will Jacks and Tilak Varma in quick succession. His ploy of bowling a wide line got him the desired results in the middle overs. The momentum shifted Mumbai Indians' way in the penultimate over and on this occasion, Vyshak was at the receiving end as he leaked 23 runs. Suryakumar and Naman Dhir (20 off 12) got the much-needed hits in the death overs. The 20th over from Arshdeep Singh was exactly what Punjab Kings needed to close the innings. The left-arm pacer took two wickets and gave away just three runs.

Suryakumar Yadav creates history, breaks Sachin Tendulkar's record of......
Suryakumar Yadav has created history in IPL. He has done a historic feat by scoring 17 runs in the match against Punjab Kings. In fact, before the match against Punjab, Surya had scored 583 runs this season and by scoring 17 runs, he has become the third player to touch the 600-run mark in IPL 2025. At the same time, he has surpassed Sachin Tendulkar in terms of scoring more than 600 runs in a season the most number of times. Suryakumar has become the first player in IPL history to score more than 600 runs in more than one season while playing for Mumbai Indians. In fact, till now Surya and Sachin Tendulkar have scored more than 600 runs in an IPL season once each while playing for MI. Now Surya has done the feat of scoring more than 600 runs in 2 different seasons while playing for MI. Suryakumar Yadav has broken Sachin Tendulkar's 15-year-old record as Tendulkar scored 618 runs in IPL 2010. After that, he could not touch the 600-run mark in any season till his IPL retirement. On the other hand, talking about Surya, he scored 605 runs in IPL 2023. At the same time, he has done this feat again in IPL 2025. Mumbai Indians' key batsman has contributed to their first two IPL 2025 matches. Despite a strong performance against Gujarat Titans, where he scored 48 runs before being dismissed, he is expected to play a significant role in their upcoming game against Kolkata Knight Riders on Monday. Image credit: X (Formerly Twitter) Suryakumar Yadav has now also become the highest run-scorer for MI in a single season. Sachin Tendulkar scored 618 runs in IPL 2010, but Suryakumar has now overtaken him. Rohit Sharma's name is nowhere to be seen in the list of players who scored the most runs for MI in a single season. Suryakumar Yadav - 619+ runs (IPL 2025) Sachin Tendulkar - 618 runs (IPL 2010) Suryakumar Yadav - 605 runs (IPL 2023) Sachin Tendulkar - 553 runs (IPL 2011) Lendl Simmons - 540 runs (IPL 2015) Rohit Sharma's name missing from the list While Surya made record after record, the most surprising thing was that Rohit Sharma's name is nowhere to be seen in the list of players who scored the most runs for Mumbai Indians in a single season. This marks a new era for MI in which Suryakumar Yadav has emerged as the main run scorer of the team.

From RCB in 2008 to KKR in 2025: IPL teams that failed to build 50-plus opening partnership in a season
Kolkata Knight Riders ( KKR ) ended their disappointing IPL 2025 season with a crushing 110-run loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Chasing 279, KKR were bowled out for just 168. The highlight of the match was Heinrich Klaasen 's unbeaten century. This was KKR's biggest defeat in IPL history in terms of runs. Another low point? They didn't manage a single 50-plus opening partnership the whole season. 1. Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2008 According to Cricbuzz, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) failed to put together a 50-plus opening stand in the very first IPL season in 2008. RCB, led by Rahul Dravid , played in the first-ever IPL match against KKR. They tried many opening combinations, including a young Virat Kohli , but none worked out. Live Events Their highest opening stand that season was just 37. They finished second from the bottom, winning only four games. 2. Delhi Capitals in 2010 Two years later, Delhi Capitals (then known as Delhi Daredevils) had a similar experience in IPL 2010. Despite having top players like Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, and David Warner, they couldn't put together a strong opening partnership. They finished fifth with 14 points, narrowly missing the playoffs. 3. Kolkata Knight Riders in 2025 And now in 2025, KKR have joined this unwanted list. They went through the entire season without a 50-plus stand at the top. Their main openers, Quinton de Kock and Sunil Narine , failed to build momentum. KKR also tried Rahmanullah Gurbaz, but nothing seemed to click. Inputs from agencies

CSK's struggles in IPL 2025: Batting or bowling woes? What's holding them back?
Chennai Super Kings play a distinct brand of cricket. The openers provide a solid base, and the menacing middle order ensures that MS Dhoni delivers a grandstand finish. This formula worked well for them, even in IPL 2023, the season they lifted their fifth title. However, things aren't the same anymore. People change, strategies evolve, and CSK's tried-and-tested formula isn't yielding the desired results this time. CSK's chances of making it to the playoffs are extremely slim, and a defeat to Punjab Kings in Chennai will officially result in their early elimination from the tournament. The big question: What's going wrong for CSK? Is it the batting or the bowling? Let's analyse. CSK's run rate of 8.1 is by far the worst among the 10 teams this season. KKR are the second-worst, with a run rate of 9.0. While KKR are still averaging 180 runs per innings, CSK are managing only 162. Despite poor overall numbers, there are instances of teams performing well in one of the three phases—powerplay, middle overs, or death overs. But CSK's case is entirely different. They are the worst batting side overall and have the lowest run rate in each of the three phases. Phase Run rate Rank Powerplay: Overs 1 to 6 7.9 10th Middle overs: Overs 7 to 16 7.4 10th Death overs: Overs 17 to 20 10.1 10th CSK's powerplay run rate in IPL 2010 was 7.9, the same rate they are maintaining in IPL 2025. However, while they were ranked 4th in IPL 2010, they currently sit at 10th out of 10 teams in 2025. What's more alarming is that Rajasthan Royals' teenage sensation, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, has hit more sixes in the powerplay in just three matches than the entire CSK batting lineup has managed in ten. In IPL 2025, 70 batters have faced more than 50 balls, and five of the bottom 15 players with the worst batting strike rates belong to CSK. No other team has more than two players in the worst 15 list. Batter Balls Runs Strike Rate Rahul Tripathi 57 55 96.49 Ravindra Jadeja 132 166 125.75 Devon Conway 74 94 127.02 Rachin Ravindra 149 191 128.18 Vijay Shankar 91 118 129.67 Except for Ravindra Jadeja, no other CSK players featured in the previous match. In their opening game against the Mumbai Indians, CSK were at 96/3 at the end of the 10th over, chasing 156. The batters then took 55 balls to score the remaining 60 runs, a warning sign that went unnoticed by the management. This was followed by a series of damaging defeats. Biggest defeat while chasing in Chennai - Lost by 50 runs to RCB Lowest total in Chennai - 103/9 vs KKR Losing all 10 wickets for the first time in 6 years in Chennai - 154 vs SRH The only team without a 200+ total while batting first in IPL 2025 CSK have bowled first on six occasions, conceding above 200 only once. They have allowed scores of 155/9, 196/7, 182/9, 183/6, 219/6, and 166/7, winning just two of those matches, 156 vs MI and 167 vs LSG. In the three games where they batted first, CSK set targets of 104, 177 (in Mumbai), and 155, but their bowlers struggled to defend these totals. Noor Ahmad and Khaleel Ahmed have been the standout performers, while the rest of the bowlers haven't made much impact. Player Matches Wickets Economy Noor Ahmad 9 14 8.0 Khaleel Ahmed 9 12 9.0 Matheesha Pathirana 7 7 10.3 Ravindra Jadeja 9 6 8.2 Ravichandran Ashwin 7 5 9.3 Anshul Kamboj e 3 6.9 Pathirana's dip in accuracy, coupled with the lack of wickets from the famed spin twins Jadeja and Ashwin, has resulted in CSK conceding above-par totals on several occasions. Chennai Super Kings have used 21 players in IPL 2025, the highest among all teams, and have fielded the same lineup in consecutive matches only once. CSK is attempting a course correction midway through the season. The five-time champions fielded five players under the age of 23 against Sunrisers Hyderabad, marking the first-ever occurrence in their history. The first four players bought in the mega auction, Devon Conway, Rahul Tripathi, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Rachin Ravindra, did not start against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
