Auburn baseball remains No. 10 in latest USA TODAY Coaches Poll
Auburn baseball remains No. 10 in latest USA TODAY Coaches Poll Auburn remains a top 10 team ahead of this weekend's regional play In the latest USA TODAY Baseball Coaches Poll, the Auburn Tigers remained at No. 10 in the rankings despite failing to win a game in the SEC Baseball Tournament last week in Hoover, Alabama. Auburn lost 3-2 to the Texas A&M Aggies in the second round last Thursday. However, the Tigers did receive good news. They were rewarded as the host of the regional round for the third time in four seasons. Joining the Tigers for the Auburn Regional are NC State, Stetson, and Central Connecticut State. The new rankings saw some movement at the top. The North Carolina Tar Heels jumped to No. 1 from No. 3 the week prior. After winning the SEC Tournament Championship over Ole Miss, Vanderbilt jumped five spots from No. 9 to No. 4. Ole Miss saw a big jump going up five spots with a ranking of No. 15. LSU dropped from the No. 1 ranking to No. 3 after their semifinal exit to Ole Miss in a 2-0 loss. The remaining SEC teams in the rankings were Texas (No.2), Arkansas (No. 5), Georgia (No. 6), Tennessee (No.16), Florida (No. 18), and Alabama (No. 20). The Tigers struggled with the bats in their 3-2 loss to Texas A&M. Auburn only had six hits and did not score a run until the fifth inning. Lucas Steele and Eric Snow did hit two home runs in the game. Auburn will enter their regional game against Central Connecticut on Friday losing three of four games. They previously had been playing well, winning five games in a row. The game against Central Connecticut will be broadcast on ESPN+ with a start time of 6 p.m. CT. Auburn bows out of SEC Baseball Tournament with loss to Texas A&M
Auburn bows out of SEC Baseball Tournament with loss to Texas A&M The red-hot Aggies got the best of Auburn with just one swing of the bat. The Auburn Tigers out-produced Texas A&M offensively in Thursday's SEC Baseball Tournament action. However, the Aggies produced the loudest hit of the day. Both teams were held scoreless through the first two innings of the game before Texas A&M grabbed momentum in the 3rd inning. Terrence Kiel led off the inning with a single, followed by Sawyer Farr reaching base after being hit by a pitch. Those events paved the way for Kaeden Kent to smash a three-run home run to right field to push the Aggies ahead, 3-0. Auburn answered with solo home runs by Eric Snow and Lucas Steele in the 5th and 9th innings respectively, but Kent's 3rd inning home run made the difference as Texas A&M stunned Auburn, 3-2, at the Hoover Met. Despite the loss, Auburn out-hit the Aggies, 6-4, and struck out just six times compared to Texas A&M's 14. Auburn also stranded five runners while the Aggies left seven runners on base. Auburn held advantages in many categories, but one swing of the bat was all Texas A&M needed to escape with the win and boost its chances of making the NCAA Tournament. Eric Snow paced Auburn with two hits while Eric Guevara, Ike Irish, Lucas Steele, and Cade Belyeu all added one apiece. Cam Tilly struck out six batters in his three-inning start, walking one and allowing two hits with his lone blemish being the three-run home run to Kent. Carson Myers struck out five batters over four innings and Cade Fisher added three more strikeouts over two innings. Texas A&M batters recorded two hits total off of Myers and Fisher. The Tigers will now return to the Plains to prepare for the NCAA Tournament. The host sites for this year's NCAA Tournament will be revealed Sunday, and the tournament field will be announced at 11 a.m. CT Monday. Before the SEC Tournament, Auburn was projected to earn the No. 6 national seed according to D1Baseball's Field of 64 update, and will hope to secure a national seed in Sunday's reveal. Auburn tops Jax State behind late Lucas Steele home run
Auburn tops Jax State behind late Lucas Steele home run Lucas Steele's 9th inning home run extends Auburn's five-game winning streak. The Auburn Tigers extended their winning streak to five games on Tuesday night, but it wasn't easy. Auburn defeated Jax State, 4-3, on the road in a game that came down to the final inning. With the game tied 3-3, and two outs, Auburn's Lucas Steele hit a solo home run to give the Tigers the victory. Pitcher Ben Schorr sealed the win when Grayson Ashe was caught looking and struck out for the final out of the game. The win gives the Tigers a 27-10 overall record as they prepare for a big weekend series at Texas. Christian Chatterton got the start for Auburn on the mound and played well. He pitched six innings giving up two runs off one hit. He also struck out eight of the 20 batters he faced. The Tigers had 14 strikeouts as a team. Schorr stuck out four batters in just a little over one inning of playing time. Auburn jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning. Ike Irish scored the first run when Bub Terrell hit a single to center field to go up 1-0. Eric Guevara hit a single in the next at-bat to score Cooper McMurray for a 2-0 advantage. Finally, a single to center field by Chase Fralick got Terrell to home plate to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead. They would not score until the game-winning home run by Steele. The Jacksonville State Gamecocks only had two hits in the game but made a comeback late. The Gamecocks scored two runs in the seventh to make the score 3-2. Sam Silas got on base due to a fielder's choice, and Drew Collings scored on an unearned run to make it 3-1. Then, Grayson Ashe scored on a wild pitch by Jett Johnston with two outs to cut the lead down to 3-2. Senior Drew Collings hit a solo home run for Jacksonville State in the eighth inning to tie the game at 3. Schoor entered the game in relief for Abe Chancellor. In the ninth inning, Cade Belyeu struck out swinging and Fralick walked. However, Fralick was called out at second base trying to steal. Next up was Steele, who hit the home run that gave back the lead to the Tigers 4-3. Auburn will again be on the road this weekend as they begin a series with the No. 1 ranked Texas Longhorns. The series will begin on Thursday and finish on Saturday. Both Thursday and Friday games will start at 7 p.m. Central and will be broadcast on SEC Network+. Game three on Saturday will begin at 2 p.m. and will also be broadcast by SEC Network+. The Tigers will look to continue the momentum they started with the weekend sweep of LSU.
