Auburn bows out of SEC Baseball Tournament with loss to Texas A&M
The Auburn Tigers out-produced Texas A&M offensively in Thursday's SEC Baseball Tournament action. However, the Aggies produced the loudest hit of the day.
Both teams were held scoreless through the first two innings of the game before Texas A&M grabbed momentum in the 3rd inning. Terrence Kiel led off the inning with a single, followed by Sawyer Farr reaching base after being hit by a pitch. Those events paved the way for Kaeden Kent to smash a three-run home run to right field to push the Aggies ahead, 3-0. Auburn answered with solo home runs by Eric Snow and Lucas Steele in the 5th and 9th innings respectively, but Kent's 3rd inning home run made the difference as Texas A&M stunned Auburn, 3-2, at the Hoover Met.
Despite the loss, Auburn out-hit the Aggies, 6-4, and struck out just six times compared to Texas A&M's 14. Auburn also stranded five runners while the Aggies left seven runners on base. Auburn held advantages in many categories, but one swing of the bat was all Texas A&M needed to escape with the win and boost its chances of making the NCAA Tournament.
Eric Snow paced Auburn with two hits while Eric Guevara, Ike Irish, Lucas Steele, and Cade Belyeu all added one apiece. Cam Tilly struck out six batters in his three-inning start, walking one and allowing two hits with his lone blemish being the three-run home run to Kent. Carson Myers struck out five batters over four innings and Cade Fisher added three more strikeouts over two innings. Texas A&M batters recorded two hits total off of Myers and Fisher.
The Tigers will now return to the Plains to prepare for the NCAA Tournament. The host sites for this year's NCAA Tournament will be revealed Sunday, and the tournament field will be announced at 11 a.m. CT Monday. Before the SEC Tournament, Auburn was projected to earn the No. 6 national seed according to D1Baseball's Field of 64 update, and will hope to secure a national seed in Sunday's reveal.

Two Oklahoma Sooners nominated to AFCA Good Works Team
Oklahoma Sooners fourth-year head coach Brent Venables and senior defensive back Robert Spears-Jenning were named to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team watch list on Thursday. It's the second preseason off-field recognition for Spears-Jennings, who was also named to the watch list for the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy in July. According to the AFCA, "The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team was established in 1992 by the College Football Association, recognizing the extra efforts made by college football players and student support staff off the field. AFCA became the governing body of the award in 1997 and continues to honor college football players who go the extra mile for those in need. Allstate worked to present the award starting with the 2008 season." The SEC leads the way among all conferences with 89 selections since 1992. Venables was hired as OU's head coach in December of 2021 and has displayed a strong commitment to developing his players in Norman on and off the field. He's had a major focus on players excelling in the classroom and preparing them for life after college and after football. Venables also established the S.O.U.L. Mission program when he came to Oklahoma, and it is currently led by Caleb Kelly, Vince Carter, and Lorenda Holston. Spears-Jennings has made an impact on and off the field during his time as a Sooner. He is stepping into a leadership role on OU's defense with the departure of Billy Bowman to the NFL. Spears-Jennings was one of three players selected to represent the program at SEC Media Days last month, and he's looking to build on a solid season in 2024. Auburn basketball 2026 targets Caleb Holt and Anthony Thompson in ESPN top 25 ranking
There is a time for Auburn basketball that it was a dream to have a top 25 prospect want to come to their school. Now it is the expectation. A decade into his tenure as Auburn head coach, it is still astonishing at what Bruce Pearl has turned the basketball program into. Two players the Tigers are interested in adding to the program in 2026 are five-star Caleb Holt and Anthony Thompson. Recently, Paul Biancardi of ESPN ranked the top 25 high school basketball players. His ranking is not just limited to the 2026 recruiting class but all of high school basketball. Holt is the highest-ranking Auburn target on the list. The small forward is ranked No. 6. According to Biancardi, Holt uses speed and quickness on both sides of the court. He is a more skilled defensive player but is improving on offense. Holt is rated as the top player in Florida and the No. 6 player nationally according to 247Sports. Thompson, another small forward, comes in at No. 17 in the ranking. ESPN projects him at No. 13 in their 2026 ESPN 100 ranking. Thompson is ranked at No. 10 by 247Sports and the No. 1 player in Ohio. His height is 6-8 but his wingspan is much longer. With his shooting ability from the three-point line he could draw comparisons to Jabari Smith. Oklahoma Sooners earn commitment from ESPN 4-star 2026 defensive lineman
The Oklahoma Sooners scored a big win on the recruiting trail earlier this week, earning a commitment from 2026 five-star edge rusher Jake Kreul. Just days later, the Sooners added another defensive line prospect in the 2026 recruiting class, James Carrington. Carrington is an ESPN four-star prospect in the cycle and has a significant offer sheet from across the college football landscape. Just a couple of days ago, Carrington decommitted from Florida State, and the expectation was that he would commit to Oklahoma. Steve Wiltfong of Rivals issued a futurecast favoring the Oklahoma Sooners shortly after he decommitted from the Seminoles. Carrington chose the Sooners over 25 Power Four offers, including nine SEC offers from schools like Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss, Tennessee, South Carolina, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma. He's the No. 33 defensive line prospect in the nation and the No. 30 player in the state of California. The Sooners currently have the No. 21 class in the 2026 recruiting cycle after this week's commitments. Defensive tackles coach Todd Bates and defensive ends coach Miguel Chavis have built a strong defensive line recruiting class with commitments from Brian Harris, Matthew Nelson, Daniel Norman, Jake Kreul, and now James Carrington. Carrington is the 17th player pledged to Oklahoma's 2026 recruiting class.
