Sian Welby's 'uncontrollable tiredness' caused by common car feature

Experts have claimed that people should avoid leaving this feature on for more than 20 minutes, as it could lead to drowsiness Sian Welby thought something might have been wrong when she came down with 'uncontrollable tiredness' whilst driving. But she never expected her car to be the culprit. ‌ Offering advice to "anyone who drives", Sian shared her discovery with listeners to the Capital Breakfast radio show she hosts alongside Jordan North and Chris Stark. The 38-year-old star said it was only a chance scroll on TikTok that helped her pinpoint the problem that was instantly solved by disabling the feature most modern cars have. ‌ In a clip to her Instagram feed with its 274,000 followers, Sian wrote: "We had lorry drivers and taxi drivers texting in saying the button had been on in their cab the whole time and they never noticed it! So dangerous and most of us don't know about it!" ‌ She told her co-hosts that she "thought she had a bit of an issue" with car journeys that lasted over 30 minutes, especially if they involved a motorway. She said: "I didn't know if it was sort of the rhythmic motion of the car on motorways or the mundane view you've got of constant tarmac, but it would 'send me to sleep' - and I'm talking uncontrollable tiredness. "I started thinking 'what is wrong with me?'. Even if I had a good night's sleep, I'd be pinning my eyes open on these long journeys." ‌ The radio host, who also occasionally presents ITV's This Morning, mentioned how it's often impossible to drive with windows down on a motorway without having a "horrendous" noise in your ear. The most obvious solution for a cool and fresh breeze is the air conditioner (if your car has it). Sian added that a random scroll on TikTok brought her to a video which claimed watching it "could save your life". She initially thought it was going to be "a load of nonsense" but it ended up giving her the solution to all her problems on the road. She continued: "When you've got air conditioning in your car, you've got two buttons, and there's one that shows a car with arrows—the recirculation button. A lot of us were told that it would save energy if you put that on because it recycles the air inside your car and it cools down quicker - that's true. ‌ "However, apparently, it's not designed to be left on and it can cause drowsiness. So I thought, right, this could be a load of nonsense but if I get into my car and that button is on, it might be why I'm getting tired. "I go in my car and, sure enough, that button is on. I turned it off and I did a three-hour motorway journey the other day - didn't feel tired once." It's not just mind over matter - there's a scientific reason why people should limit how often they use the recirculation button. Studies show that recirculated air inside a car contains decreased oxygen levels and increased carbon dioxide levels. The air conditioning recirculation button should ideally be used in short bursts, typically for no more than 20 minutes. Some vehicles may have a built-in timer that automatically switches off recirculation after a set time to allow fresh air into the cabin.

Tinie Tempah announces return to music 'to save Britain's clubs' after quitting 'to change nappies and raise his kids' - but This Morning viewers are totally divided

Tinie Tempah has announced his return to music 'to save Britain's clubs' after quitting 'to change nappies and raise his kids' - and This Morning viewers were instantly divided. The London-born rapper and singer, 36, appeared on the ITV chat show on Friday to mark his industry comeback, nearly ten years after his last album Youth in 2017. The artist, whose new single Eat It Up came out on Thursday, told presenters Dermot O'Leary, 52, and Sian Welby, 38, what he has been up to - and his current plans. The Pass Out hitmaker explained his hiatus: 'I basically stepped back a bit just to settle down, have kids, all that stuff, do the school run, change nappies.' And he used his appearance on the sofa to spread the word about preserving British nightlife and music venues, which have been in decline since the pandemic. But This Morning viewers took to social media to give a mixed consensus about the artist's return to mainstream celebrity life. The London-born rapper and singer, 36, appeared on the ITV chat show on Friday to mark his industry comeback, nearly ten years after his last album Youth in 2017 Tinie, whose real name is Patrick Chukwuemeka Okogwu, married artist Eve De Haan in 2019, the daughter of the Saga insurance firm's former owner Sir Roger De Haan. They share two daughters, born in 2018 and 2021. The rapper told Dermot and Sian: 'I was watching my kids grow up and I was thinking, "Wow, they're actually not going to be able to experience me in some of these venues that maybe my siblings did or friends that I grew up with did. '"I need to do this for them".' During his break from making music, he also bought a recording studio in London to support other rappers and singers. He explained: 'Seeing all these incredible artists coming in and out of my studio and hearing their bangers, I was doing DIY, painting the walls, sanding the floors, and people are making bangers. 'And I was like, "I'm not a carpenter, I need to get back on to the music!"' Tinie said his return to the industry was also 'really motivated by the landscape of where we were economically'. Tinie, whose real name is Patrick Chukwuemeka Okogwu, married artist Eve De Haan (pictured together in 2018) in 2019, the daughter of the Saga insurance firm's former owner Sir Roger De Haan He pointed out how since gigs stopped and event spaces closed during the Covid pandemic, the nation has lost around three venues a month. A staggering 480 clubs vanished between June 2020 and September 2024, according to figures from the Night Time Industries Association. Even the capital was hit hard, going from 200 venues in 2020 to just 143 four years later. An association spokesman has previously said: ''The rapid decline is devastating for our economy. 'Without urgent Government intervention, we risk losing a key part of the UK's cultural identity in dance music.' It has a bigger effect than on just artists, Tinie emphasised: 'If you think about the bouncer that works there, the barmaid, the person that's working at the cloakroom, there's a little cottage economy in there. 'So, I think the best thing people can do is just keep attending, keep going.' The musician continued: 'I know there's so many other things going on in the world that we should be concerned about. 'However, as an artist, I'm thinking of the next generation of acts and I'm thinking if they don't have the same venues that I did, now they have virtually no venues, how are we going to get all these exciting genres like drum and bass and garage and grime and house music that were birthed out of these spaces?' Tinie added it is especially important 'in a time of division': 'As simple as it is, music brings joy, it brings people together and so we need to preserve these spaces. 'And I'm hoping that my little voice can start off hopefully a domino effect of other artists identifying the problem and being a voice as well.' He concluded: 'Let's keep some of these institutions alive because that's what they are, some of these places are institutions. 'I hear people that are in their fifties and sixties talk about the Hacienda [club in Manchester] and we need venues like that that we'll be talking about for years to come.' Some This Morning viewers were delighted to see Tinie on the show, with one excitedly writing on X: 'Tinie Tempah on after the break.' Another added on the social media platform: 'Tinie Tempah seems a top bloke.' But others were less interested: 'Written in The Stars is the only one I know.'; 'I hear people that are in their fifties and sixties talk about the Hacienda [club in Manchester] and we need venues like that that we'll be talking about for years to come', he continued. Pictured: Tinie in 2016 'Rap icon Tinie Tempah? More one hit wonder.'; 'Is it just me or do all of his songs sound the same?' And some were not keen on him at all, bringing up previous controversies Tinie has been embroiled in. They included his previous admission he once had sex with a groupie while her mother waited outside the room. The rapper has previously confessed to Shortlist magazine: 'Basically... this girl came to see a show with her mum. She was really nice. 'She and her mum hung around after the show and the daughter was giving me "the look". I thought, "You're lovely but your mum's here". 'We flirted and there was banter that hinted at it. And then the mum was like, "Oh I don't mind, I'll wait!" 'So, her mum just waited outside the dressing room. That was f***ing weird.' Some This Morning viewers were delighted to see Tinie on the show But others were less interested It comes after another recent segment on This Morning did not just divide viewers - but rather put some of them off entirely. Fans fumed 'I've had to switch off' after TikTok witches took over the studio earlier this week. Thursday's instalment of the ITV show saw co-hosts Cat Deeley, 48, and Ben Shephard, 50, sit down with three women who identify as witches. Mother and daughter duo Emma Griffin and Holly Kenyon, along with Katy Whyte, opened up about their lives as professional sorceresses. All three post about their magical activities on TikTok. Emma explained: 'I think the word "witch", people are are scared of it because of the movies and I think now people are looking at it as a form of wellness and good for their emotions and inner calmness. 'It's really beautiful to see younger generations, especially Holly's age, stepping into witchcraft and sharing their magic.' Holly had been brought up surrounded by witchcraft as both her mother and grandmother practised. Fans fumed 'I've had to switch off' after TikTok witches took over the studio earlier this week (pictured) Emma revealed 'anyone can be a witch' and Katy opened up about how she has been interested in it since she was young. Katy said: 'For me, when I was a teenager, I was drawn to it, I would end up in the witchy shops. 'I was completely in the closet, all my books hidden from my parents because I was really embarrassed by it because back then, it wasn't on social media so this is why I think it's so lovely now.' She revealed she was interested in 'the cycles of nature' and the moon. Holly explained: 'I've been doing it since, my earliest memory is seven years old. 'I used to make potions from my mum's stuff in the bathroom and carried it on from there.' As for those who are more cynical about witchcraft, Holly said: 'I look at it as, it's a lifestyle and it's a beautiful way to connect to nature and it's embracing slow living and going back to what our ancestors gave us.' But the witches were not well received by some viewers who took to social media to share their thoughts. One posted on X: 'FFS!... I am lost for words... Witches #ThisMorning.' Another added: 'This is so ridiculous and mind numbing, had to switch off, absolutely pathetic! #ThisMorning.'

Watch as This Morning star struggles on Celeb Catchphrase – would you have worked them out?

A This Morning legend struggled with tricky riddles on Celebrity Catchphrase - but could you have worked them out? The hit ITV show has always led with the "say what you see" mantra, but as members of the public - and more recently celebrities - have found out, it isn't as easy as it sounds. 4 4 In one episode, Richard Madeley, Sian Welby and Axel Blake tackled the legendary game show. But it was This Morning legend Richard, 69, who ultimately reached the final round. He had already accumulated an impressive £7,400 for charity Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust. The super catchphrase is split into five sections with each of them holding a certain amount of cash which increases upon each level. Joining host Stephen Mulhern, it was clear Richard had a shaky start to the final round. The first puzzle he faced depicted a group of eyeballs sat at desks and writing, while it panned to a sign reading "Exam". Richard's guesses included "eyes down" and "eyeballs" before deciding to pass. The next riddle showed Mr. Chips driving a van with a giant burger attached to the back. However, Richard was similarly flummoxed and passed on this one as well. After a slow start, the TV presenter found a rhythm and answered a few correctly. Celebrity Catchphrase stumps soap legend with tricky puzzles - but could you get them right? He also managed to deduce number 11 - meaning he doubled his fellow celebrities' totals for their charities. In a nail-biting moment, he worked out it was "few and far between" with just seconds to spare. Richard ultimately won £10,000 in the final round, as well as his £7,600 from earlier. Speaking afterwards, Stephen told him: "You're going to kick yourself on a couple of these. Hardest Quiz Show Questions Would you know the answers to some of quizzing TV's hardest questions Who Wants To Be A Millionaire - Earlier this year, fans were left outraged after what they described as the "worst" question in the show's history. Host Jeremy Clarkson asked: 'From the 2000 awards ceremony onwards, the Best Actress Oscar has never been won by a woman whose surname begins with which one of these letters?' The multiple choice answers were between G, K, M and W. In the end, and with the £32,000 safe, player Glen had to make a guess and went for G. It turned out to be correct as Nicole Kidman, Frances McDormand and Kate Winslet are among the stars who have won the Best Actress gong since 2000. The 1% Club - Viewers of Lee Mack's popular ITV show were left dumbfounded by a question that also left the players perplexed. The query went as follows: "Edna's birthday is on the 6th of April and Jen's birthday falls on the 15th of October, therefore Amir's birthday must be the 'X' of January." It turns out the conundrum links the numbers with its position in the sentence, so 6th is the sixth word and 15th is the fifteenth word. Therefore, Amir's birthday is January 24th, corresponding to the 24th word in the sentence. The Chase - The ITV daytime favourite left fans scratching their heads when it threw up one of the most bizarre questions to ever grace the programme. One of the questions asked the player: "Someone with a nightshade intolerance should avoid eating what?" The options were - sweetcorn, potatoes, carrots - with Steve selecting sweetcorn but the correct answer was potatoes. "But it doesn't really matter now, you've won £10,000." The elusive answers turned out to be "eye test" and "burger van", respectively. However, he is not the first star to face difficult puzzles on the ITV show. 4

Radio star reveals hotel ‘thought she was a sex worker' before major Hollywood interview

Capital Radio host Sian Welby has revealed she was mistaken for a sex worker while trying to do an interview with the stars of Jurassic World: Rebirth. Speaking on the latest episode of the Capital Breakfast: After the Show Show! podcast, the 38-year-old shared how staff at the Corinthia hotel 'panicked' when she showed up in a 'smart outfit'… clutching knee-high, sequin-covered silver boots that looked like they'd just moonwalked off the set of Kinky Boots. 'A couple of weeks ago, it was the big Jurassic World release,' Sian began, setting the scene. 'I had gone and done an interview after the Summertime Ball that Monday . And you know, we were all in a bit of a state on the Monday, weren't we?' Undeterred by the post-ball hangover haze, Sian powered on: 'I couldn't cancel this interview because it was quite a big interview. It was with Jonathan Bailey, Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali, who were all the massive stars from that film.' 'Luckily, because we go to work so early, I still didn't have to check out of the hotel we stayed the night in,' she explained. 'So after the [radio] show, I went in and I had a shower and I got myself ready for this interview. So I dressed myself all smart, but then I had to repack the bag with all my costume in and whatever. And the thing that didn't fit in were my shiny silver sequin boots.' She continued, laughing: 'This interview is in one of the poshest hotels in London, the Corinthia,' Sian said. 'I've got a suitcase and some shiny stripper boots, right? I'm in reception. 'It literally looks like the hooker's arrived. It's Pretty Woman. I literally look like they panicked when I walked in and they were trying to get me out of the way because I was bringing down the whole place.' Jordan North, clearly floored, asked: 'They thought you were a sex worker?' 'Definitely, 100 per cent,' Sian replied. 'It was literally like, 'Right, who's she here for? Get her away, get her out of plain sight!'' To be fair, it probably didn't help that the boots were essentially Studio 54 in footwear form. Chris Stark chimed in: 'Do you think it was the boots?' 'It was, of course,' Sian confirmed. 'I'm talking sequin shiny knee-high boots in my hand and a suitcase.' To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Sensing she might be slightly out of place, she tried to sit in the hotel foyer to prep – but the staff had other ideas. 'They were panicking going, 'Oh God, how do we get rid of this?'' she said. 'They couldn't obviously say what they were thinking, but they didn't want me in the foyer because of the boots and the thing. 'They were trying to hide me, and they pushed me to a… they were like, 'You could sit here,' and it was like a table hidden in a corner behind a pillar.' More Trending It didn't end there. 'Then after I was writing my notes, they were like, 'I'm sorry, we're about to have the guests in now.' And they were basically like, 'Can you move?'' She was then hilariously ushered away just in time for Scarlett Johansson and co. to glide in without tripping over a rogue glitter boot. Ultimately, the misunderstanding was resolved and the interview proceeded as planned, but Sian certainly learned her lesson about using a suitcase big enough to fit her thigh-high boots next time.
