Growing confidence in Madani leadership
Published on: Fri, Jul 11, 2025 Text Size: 'These findings indirectly counter the negative narrative of dissatisfaction towards the Madani Government and reinforce political stability as the people's main priority,' Mustapha said. Kota Kinabalu: It is clear that political stability, both at the federal and state levels, remains the people's top choice as they seek development and prosperity, said Sabah PKR Chairman Datuk Mustapha Sakmud. He said the people want continuity, not conflict, and are showing growing confidence in the Madani Government's direction. Welcoming the findings of the Ipsos Populism Report 2025, he said they showed that public confidence in the country's future continues to rise. According to the survey, the number of respondents who believe Malaysia is on the wrong track dropped from 52 per cent in 2023 to 40 per cent in 2025 – significantly below the global average of 57 per cent. 'This indicates that the people are beginning to feel the impact of institutional reforms and the positive outcomes brought about by the Madani Government,' he said in a statement. He added that the findings reflect the people's growing confidence in the efforts of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, particularly through his official visits to strengthen multilateral ties and attract foreign investment. 'The warm welcome and respect shown by foreign nations towards the Prime Minister's leadership have elevated Malaysia's stature as a respected nation,' he said. A recent Merdeka Centre survey also showed that the Prime Minister's approval rating rose to 55 per cent in May this year, up from 43 per cent in June 2024. Support for the Federal Government similarly increased to 50 per cent, compared to 40 per cent the previous year. 'These findings indirectly counter the negative narrative of dissatisfaction towards the Madani Government and reinforce political stability as the people's main priority,' Mustapha said. He said this sentiment is also evident in Sabah, where voters are preparing for the coming state election and view political stability as essential for continued development. 'As we approach the Sabah State Election, what the people truly desire is stability – and the Madani Government continues to prove its credibility,' he said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Sabah Electricity welcomes SOGT maintenance rescheduling
Published on: Thursday, July 31, 2025 Published on: Thu, Jul 31, 2025 Text Size: KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Electricity (SE), in a statement on Thursday, welcomed the rescheduling of maintenance works at the Petronas-owned Sabah Oil and Gas Terminal (SOGT) from 1 August to 5 August this year. The adjustment allows two independent power producers (IPPs) more time to switch their operations from gas to diesel fuel. This transition process requires careful planning to maintain a stable electricity supply across the state. SE expressed appreciation for the cooperation shown by all parties involved in ensuring smooth preparations. It also hopes the IPPs will carry out their technical adjustments efficiently and on schedule to support system stability in Sabah. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Government mulls EPF monthly pension payout option
Published on: Thursday, July 31, 2025 Published on: Thu, Jul 31, 2025 Text Size: KUALA LUMPUR: The government is exploring a proposal to offer monthly pension payouts under the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), complementing the existing lump-sum withdrawal option, The Edge Malaysia reported. According to the 13th Malaysia Plan report, the move aims to provide retirees with a more consistent income stream after retirement. The proposed mechanism would split EPF contributions into two parts — one for lump-sum withdrawals and another for a monthly pension upon retirement. At present, members can fully withdraw their EPF savings upon reaching 55 years old, with funds accumulated in three distinct accounts. Account 1, the Retirement Account, is reserved for post-retirement use, while Account 2 supports pre-retirement needs such as housing, education, and medical expenses. Account 3, introduced in 2024, is a more flexible option that allows members to withdraw funds at any time to manage short-term needs. The EPF, which recently declared a 6.3 per cent dividend for both conventional and Shariah savings, remains a key pillar in Malaysia's retirement landscape alongside funds like ASB, ASN, and Tabung Haji. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
