Shivakumar, returning to Bengaluru after attending the Sadhana Samavesha event in Mysuru, was following the escort vehicle in his official car. Soon after the accident, he got down from his vehicle, took care of the injured escorts, and after shifting them to the hospital, he proceeded to Bengaluru.
SP Mallikarjun Baladandi said, "The pilot vehicle skidded due to stagnant rainwater on the highway and later hit the median as the driver lost control of the vehicle. The jeep overturned later. Four people in the vehicle suffered minor injuries and were treated as outpatients. Police cleared the overturned vehicle and restored smooth traffic flow on the highway."

Questions on Siddaramaiah's tenure as CM persist

Bengaluru: Will he or won't he. This is the million dollar question hotly debated in Karnataka's political circles over Chief Minister Siddaramaiah completing his term, even as a unique record beckons the veteran, who along with his deputy and another claimant for the CM's chair, D K Shivakumar, once again air dashes to Delhi. Siddaramaiah, in his second term as chief minister, is on the cusp of becoming the longest serving elected head of the state, closing in on veteran Devaraj Urs' record as CM for over 2,700 days. Despite his assertions, questions over whether he will complete a full five year tenure in office, or if he will make way for DKS as per a rumoured rotational formula, persists. Shivakumar is addressed as DKS. The two are in New Delhi in their third trip since June, even as an uneasy calm prevails in the state Congress unit where voices from either camps have fallen silent over the CM issue following a high command gag order. During their visit to the national capital, the two leaders are likely to meet the Congress' top brass. Unlike in the past, there have been no open remarks by MLAs on the CM change issue this time, following the diktat from leadership. However, silent strategies and maneuvering are certainly on, as the government is nearing two-and-half years in office, said a senior Congress leader, summing up the atmosphere within the ruling party. Though the Delhi visit is to attend the 'Bhagidari Nyay Sammelan' organised by AICC Backward Class unit on Friday, Congress insiders indicate about the CM possibly meeting party leader Rahul Gandhi. A similar meeting could not happen last time, in the second week of July. However there is no official confirmation in this regard so far. There has been speculation within state's political circles, especially within the ruling Congress, for some time now about the CM change later this year, citing the power-sharing agreement involving incumbent Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar. However, the Congress leadership seems to have adopted a strategy of keeping both sides waiting, until the Bihar polls are over. Siddaramaiah is the only OBC chief minister the Congress has in the country at present, and many party leaders are of the opinion that any move to replace him will have a bearing on the party's performance in the poll-bound Bihar, where the OBC votes are crucial.

Congress cadre wait prolongs for political appointments to Karnataka's boards

Bengaluru: Even as the Congress high command finalised names to head 29 smaller boards and corporations, hundreds of political posts of directors and members remain in limbo, leading to fresh disappointment among the party cadre in Karnataka. Chief minister Siddaramaiah and DCM DK Shivakumar, who also heads KPCC, met AICC general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala in Delhi Thursday to finalise the limited list. Party insiders say Shivakumar is likely to release the names of chairpersons once he returns to Bengaluru this weekend. Siddaramaiah told the media that Shivakumar, Surjewala and he had finalised chairpersons for boards and corporations, making a few changes. However, the final decision is up to the party high command," said Siddaramaiah. However, the much-awaited appointments to the remaining 950 posts continue to be delayed. Of the 1,118 sanctioned political posts across boards and corporations, only 118 have been filled so far. According to officials in the chief minister's office (CMO), the party has now decided to collect three nominations per assembly constituency from the party's sitting MLAs and defeated candidates of the 2023 elections to identify suitable candidates for the posts. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Libas Purple Days Sale Libas Undo "Names for 650 posts have been completed with the new exercise being considered for 300 pending posts," said a CMO official. Despite repeated assurances from the top leadership about "rewarding" party workers for their efforts in bringing Congress to power in 2023, the delay continues nearly two years into the govt's term. To speed up the process, Siddaramaiah had set up a panel in June 2024 under home minister G Parameshwara to identify eligible functionaries. The panel submitted over 500 names to the high command, but none has been cleared so far. Siddaramaiah had earlier promised that the appointments would be finalised by July 16 — a deadline that has come and gone. Party insiders attribute the delay to factionalism. "One group approves a list, but another opposes it. A third group of functionaries under a senior leader seeks its own validation for the posts. Overall, internal politics has delayed the appointments for a while now," said a cabinet minister, suggesting that it may still take another week to 10 days for the list to be cleared. Shivajinagar MLA Rizwan Arshad, who is also on the Parameshwara-led panel, expressed optimism that the impasse would end shortly. – Quote The list of chairpersons for boards and corporations, along with the list of names for members and directors, will be concluded soon. There shall be no more delay -Rizwan Arshad, Shivajinagar MLA

Goa CM Sawant hits back at Karnataka deputy CM Shivakumar in row over diversion of Mahadayi river water

BELAGAVI: The long-standing dispute over the diversion of water from Goa's Mahadayi river for Karnataka's Kalasa-Banduri project has escalated into a fresh political standoff, with top leaders from both states engaging in sharp verbal exchanges to defend their respective positions. On Friday, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant hit back at Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who had earlier remarked that Sawant had "lost his mental balance." Shivakumar's criticism came in response to Sawant's statement in the Goa Legislative Assembly, where he claimed that the Centre had assured Goa it would not permit the implementation of the Kalasa-Banduri project. 'Shivakumar is revealing his party's true colours. I don't wish to dignify his remarks with a response. He is free to say what he wants, but one thing is clear that my fight to protect the Mahadayi will never stop,' Sawant asserted.
