"Investigation will definitely happen", BJP's Agnimitra Paul on TMC's demand for inquiry into Air India plane crash
Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], June 13 (ANI): Reacting to All India Trinamool Congress's demand for an inquiry into the AI-171 plane crash, BJP leader Agnimitra Paul on Friday assured the investigation will definitely happen.
Speaking with ANI, Agnimitra Paul said, 'Our government will investigate. Do you think there will be no investigation after the death of 242 passengers, while the central government avenged the death of 26 Pahalgam victims?'
'One needs to prioritise things. People are waiting for DNA sampling so that the bodies of their kin can be handed over to them. Students in the medical college building died, and those injured are waiting for treatment. These are the priorities. The investigation will definitely happen.' She added.
In a post on X, TMC demanded a 'thorough, transparent, and unbiased' investigation into the plane crash in which 241 passengers lost their lives.
'The nation is in mourning after yesterday's horrific Air India Plane Crash. In the aftermath of the tragedy, several conspiracy theories are being floated. We demand a thorough, transparent, and unbiased investigation to uncover the truth. No cover-ups. No politics. Just accountability. Passenger safety must be NON-NEGOTIABLE,' TMC wrote on X while attaching video of its leader Kunal Gosh.
Kunal Gosh, in the video, said, 'There is an absolute need for thorough, unbiased investigation of the Ahmedabad plane crash. What is happening under this BJP rule? This is not safe. Was the maintenance not up to date? What happened?'
On Thursday, the Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, operating as flight AI 171, was en route to London from Ahmedabad when it crashed shortly after takeoff. There were 242 people on board, including 230 passengers and 12 crew members.
Of the passengers, 241 died in the crash. The lone survivor, identified as Vishwashkumar Ramesh, a British national of Indian origin, sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment.
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) on Friday confirmed the recovery of the Digital Flight Data Recorder (DFDR), commonly referred to as the black box, from the rooftop of a building at the site of the Air India Flight AI-171 crash in Ahmedabad.
The AAIB has launched a full-scale investigation into the crash, with over 40 staff from the Gujarat State Government joining efforts to support the Ministry of Civil Aviation teams on the ground.
The black box, a critical piece of evidence, will be analysed to determine the cause of the tragic crash. (ANI)

Mumbai: As the BMC opened the Vikhroli rail overbridge (ROB0 —a key east-west connector—at 4pm on Saturday, political sparring broke out, with both the UBT Shiv Sena , the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, and the BJP rushing to claim credit for the project. The bridge saw political party flags and banners being displayed on it even before it was opened to motorists. The area is represented by Sena MLA Sunil Raut, who broke a coconut at the site on Saturday, signalling the opening of the bridge. The 615-metre bridge, which links Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg in Vikhroli to the Eastern Express Highway, was on the drawing board for the past 15 years, with the work order being issued in 2018. It was completed seven years later, in 2025. No formal inauguration ceremony was held, with the Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis proposing to open it on Saturday evening. It is a two-way bridge. One of the political banners, put up by MLA Sunil Raut, claimed he was pursuing the project with the BMC and Central Railway since 2010. Another, bearing a photo of deputy CM Eknath Shinde and attributed to local neta Haroon Khan, declared the bridge a victory of his protest. Khan told TOI that in 2010, he and local residents staged a protest that brought train services to a halt. "There were repeated cases of people dying while crossing the tracks. We decided enough was enough and protested on the tracks. It was only after we received an assurance that the bridge would be constructed that we called off the agitation," he said. However, former BJP MP Manoj Kotak said he consistently followed up with the railways and the BMC to push the bridge work forward. "Those claiming credit don't understand the complexities involved. From acquiring land on the eastern side to ensuring minimal disruption to students near the school on the west, we worked persistently with the authorities to bring the project to completion. Rajasthan: Former BJP MP's son dies by suicide in Udaipur
In a tragic incident, a former BJP MP's son allegedly died by hanging himself from the ceiling of his room in a library in Udaipur district of Rajasthan. The deceased identified as Ashish Bhagora, son of former BJP MP from Salumbar Mahaveer Bhagora, was a library operator in Amba Mata area of Udaipur and was living in a room of the library for some time. According to police, Ashish was found dead on Saturday morning in his room. The body was lying on the ground and a piece of cloth was hanging from the ceiling. "Prima facie, he hanged himself from the ceiling last night and the body later fell on the ground. The body was shifted to the mortuary of the government hospital for postmortem," the police said. The incident came to light when some students reached the library and called him. When there was no response, they entered the room and found him dead. The police are conducting an investigation into the matter to ascertain the cause of the suicide. Mahaveer Bhagora died due to corona infection in 2021. Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma offered condolences on the unfortunate and tragic demise of former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who was one of the passengers flying to London from Ahmedabad when the Boeing 787-8, Air India flight 171, crashed shortly after take-off. "The news of the demise of former Chief Minister of Gujarat, Vijay Rupani, in the plane crash in Ahmedabad is extremely sad. I pray to the Lord to give place to the departed soul in his feet and give strength to the bereaved family to bear this immense pain," Sharma posted on X. Rupani was in charge of the Punjab unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Grieving his death, party workers from Ludhiana's BJP unit paid tribute to the former Gujarat CM.

Pachmarhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the Bharatiya Janata Party's three-day training camp in Pachmarhi, Madhya Pradesh on Saturday, addressing a gathering of over 200 party MPs, MLAs, ministers, and senior functionaries. Held in the serene surroundings of the Satpura Range, the camp aims to sharpen the party's ideological clarity, communication skills, and grassroots strategy ahead of upcoming electoral challenges.
