Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Reveal Fired Off At Xbox Games Showcase 2025
There have been rumblings and speculation for weeks regarding a potential new Call of Duty title, and today at the Xbox Games Showcase in SGF 2025, Black Ops 7 was officially revealed. The year is 2035 and the world is on the brink of chaos (like all other Call of Duty titles start), ravaged by violent conflict and psychological warfare following the events of Black Ops 2 and Black Ops 6.
Fans will embody Black Ops 7 operatives under the capable command of David Mason, and while wielding new technology, the squad must push back enemy forces led by an enemy that prioritizes fear over everything. Call of Duty: Black Ops 7's reveal trailer can be seen below.
Developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, Black Ops 7 will mark the first time the Call of Duty: Black Ops series had titles release consecutively without a break in between. The first two Call of Duty titles to do so was the previously released Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3, and like those titles, the seventh Black Ops entry will continue the storyline that was laid out by the second and sixth entries. Although Black Ops 6 launched within one year of the seventh title's trailer (Black Ops 6 launched in October 2024), Xbox has confirmed this is a full release featuring a cooperative campaign, new maps, and more zombies.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Leak Claims Nov. 14 Release Date, No Switch 2 Version Yet
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will be the next entry into the military FPS franchise, and just like every year, it typically comes out in October, making it one of the last big game releases before Black Friday. A leak suggests that the new CoD might come out a little later than usual, but still in time for the big shopping day. Black Ops 7 will reportedly release on Nov. 14, according to a leaker that goes by the name billbil-kun from a post on the French website Dealabs. Along with the supposed release date, the leak says there will not be a Switch 2 version when the game launches. A spokesperson for the franchise said in an emailed statement that details about Black Ops 7 will be officially revealed at Gamescom Opening Night, which is happening on Tuesday, Aug. 19. The Call of Duty series release dates typically straddle the late October and early November period. The last CoD game to come out mid-November was Black Ops Cold War, which was released on Nov. 13, 2020. It's unclear if the later in November release was due in part to the Battlefield 6 release date of Oct. 10, which would allow for some padding time between the releases of the two popular military FPS games. The lack of a Switch 2 version at launch could mean that the team working on that version of the game needed some more time before its release. While the original Switch has become too underpowered for modern games, Nintendo boosted the performance of the Switch 2, which makes it capable of running more graphics-intensive games, potentially including Call of Duty. Black Ops 7 will still likely release for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on launch day as it does every year. In Black Ops 7, players will jump into the role of David Mason, played by Milo Ventimiglia. The year is 2035, and Mason is struggling with hallucinations of enemies from his past. The character was first introduced in 2012's Black Ops 2 and was also in 2024's Black Ops 6. While other Call of Duty games tend to focus on certain eras of warfare, such as World War II and the Iraq War, the Black Ops series focuses on secret missions typically conducted by the US and range from the Cold War era to more modern and even futuristic times. After adding yet another tiny map, Battlefield 6 players are rightfully clowning on its definition of 'all-out warfare'

As weekend two of the Battlefield 6 beta gets into swing, folks are increasingly skeptical of all these small to medium maps. The lack of a truly "big" Battlefield map was the loudest criticism coming out of last weekend's playtest, and the only new map added this week isn't squashing worries that Battlefield 6 is prioritizing the Call of Duty crowd: Empire State, an infantry-only map with zero vehicles, is the smallest one we've seen yet. The cries for clear skies and open ranges haven't inspired an official response from Battlefield Studios, but DICE lead producer David Sirland assured fans that "large maps exist" earlier this week. "Speed is a factor of map size. We picked these maps to make sure we hit the full-octane version of Battlefield on the head—and made everyone see we can handle that too," Sirland wrote on X. "Large maps exist, and the tempo scales accordingly; you'll be able to see soon enough!" Even still, the way Battlefield 6 labels its modes has some questioning if EA has a different definition of "large" than the rest of us. The new Attack & Defend playlist, consisting of Rush and Breakthrough, is listed as "large-scale battles," despite Rush's cramped, aggressively linear 12v12 map layouts. That disparity is already inspiring some decent memes: "Leaked" images of new Battlefield 6 maps that are literally just Call of Duty maps. Devs have confirmed they are adding another large scale map this weekend from r/Battlefield New Medium-Large Scale Map Leaked Before Release from r/Battlefield Sirland's comments about large maps prompted me to take a second look at BF Studios' official website to determine how much large-scale Battlefield-ing we should actually expect from its nine launch maps, judged by how many vehicles are present. Fewer generally means smaller. Here's what I've got: Siege of Cairo: Small, infantry-focused, tanks only Iberian Offensive: Small, tanks and jeeps Empire State: Small, infantry-only, no vehicles Liberation Peak: Medium, all vehicles Operation Firestorm: Medium or large (depending on how closely it sticks to the BF3 version), all vehicles Saints Quarter: Small, infantry-only, no vehicles New Sobek City: Described as "all-out war across construction sites and massive sand dunes" with jeeps, tanks, helicopters, but no jets Mirak Valley: Described as "the largest map at launch", all vehicles Manhattan Bridge: Described as "close-quarters" with helicopters, but no mention of jeeps or tanks By my count, that means Battlefield 6 will have just three maps that capture the full experience of transports, tanks, helicopters, and jets at launch. Personally I think that's a bummer, because it also suggests only three maps have a large enough footprint for jets to even make sense. Hopefully, New Sobek City will still feel large with only helicopters, because the more I play Cairo, Empire State, and Iberian Offensive, the more I see myself filtering those out of my regular rotation in the full game. Since most people probably aren't going to comb over official map descriptions before launch, I suspect we're barreling toward a nasty collision of expectations vs reality come October 10. Longtime fans want and expect Battlefield 6 to be huge the majority of the time, and I don't think that's what we're going to get.
