The Baltimore Orioles have reunited with right-handed reliever Scott Blewett from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for cash considerations, according to MLB Trade Rumors. Atlanta designated Blewett for assignment to bring franchise legend Craig Kimbrel back to the major leagues. The Orioles previously designated Blewett for assignment just days after acquiring him after the Minnesota Twins placed him on waivers.

Photo byBlewett appeared in only two games with the Orioles before landing in Atlanta, pitching 4 1/3 innings and not allowing an earned run. Blewett had a similar stat line with the Twins, pitching 4 2/3 innings and allowing just one earned run.
Blewett would then go on to land a roster spot for longer than a month with the Braves, where he appeared in 11 games with a 5.51 ERA before being traded back to Baltimore.
Blewett is in his fourth season in the majors and has appeared in the most games in his career this season, with 15 across the three different teams he has suited up for. Blewett is out of options, and teams see that he can be a valuable pickup when available, as he is headed back to a prior employer.
While Blewett has a below-average fastball velocity this season, sitting at 93.4 mph, he has been effective in situations during the season. Blewett is in the 90th percentile in getting hitters to whiff on his pitches, along with being in the 91st percentile in groundball percentage.
Blewett has yet to stick with a team this season, but with Baltimore faltering, this may be the opportunity he needs to prove himself at the major league level.

Mets' Pete Alonso Makes Retirement Timeline Announcement as Free Agency Looms

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. The New York Mets saw Pete Alonso break the franchise home run record on Tuesday night against the Atlanta Braves. He could hit free agency next year, and all of the pressure is on the Mets. Alonso has done nothing but produce at a high level since his debut in 2019. Only Aaron Judge has more home runs since then. However, Alonso has a player option after this season, and it would make sense for him to opt out and find a better deal. Alonso has been great this year, and the Mets will surely be involved in his free agency market. He has spent his entire career with the Mets so far, and could finish as one of the best players in franchise history if the Mets can keep him around. NEW YORK, NEW YORK - AUGUST 12: Pete Alonso #20 of the New York Mets tosses his bat after hitting a solo home run during the sixth inning of the game against the Atlanta Braves at Citi Field on August 12, 2025 in New York City. MoreAfter breaking the franchise home run record, Alonso put all the pressure on the team's front office, and also revealed how much longer he is planning to play if the team is interested in making him a Met for life. "I have a goal to play baseball until I'm through my age 40 season," Alonso said, per The Athletic's Tyler Kepner. "And for me, I'm gonna work hard and do that. And you know what? Business side, Steve (Cohen) and David (Stearns), they've got to come through." Alonso is 30 right now, which means he is trying to play at least through 2035. It's unlikely the Mets are going to give him a 10-year deal in free agency. However, the five-time All-Star has no plans of retiring soon. Alonso is already the home run king for the franchise. However, he could end up being one of the all-time best home run hitters in MLB history. If the Mets want to make sure he only ever wears their uniform, it may take multiple long-term contracts. 2025 AL East Odds: Can Yankees Catch Blue Jays, Red Sox?

Major League Baseball 2025 AL East Odds: Can Yankees Catch Blue Jays, Red Sox? Published Aug. 13, 2025 11:17 a.m. ET share facebook x reddit link Historically, and even in recent years, the AL East has belonged to the Yankees. But this season doesn't appear to be aligning itself with historical precedent. Which squad is favored to win the AL East this season? Here are the odds at DraftKings Sportsbook as of Aug. 13, as well as what to know about the division. AL East winner Blue Jays: -300 (bet $10 to win $13.33 total) Yankees: +450 (bet $10 to win $55 total) Red Sox: +550 (bet $10 to win $65 total) Rays: +40000 (bet $10 to win $4,010 total) What to know: All-time, the Yankees have won the division 21 times, including nine straight times from 1998 to 2006, and three times in the last six seasons, including last year (94-68). New York went on to lose to the Dodgers in five games in the World Series last season. This year has been an uneven one for New York so far, as it currently sits third in the division, behind the Blue Jays and the rival Red Sox. As of Aug. 13, Toronto has the second-best record in all of baseball to go along with a 4.5-game lead over Boston and a six-game lead over New York. Oddly enough, it has the third-best run differential in the division by a wide margin. The Blue Jays have only won the division six times since its inception (1969), and last won it in 2015 before losing in the ALCS. However, the previous two times Toronto claimed the AL East? Well, that resulted in back-to-back World Series titles in 1992 and 1993. Remaining matchups: The Blue Jays, Yankees and Red Sox all have three games remaining against each other. Is Titans HC Brian Callahan to blame for slow starts?

The Tennessee Titans held their first of two joint practices with the Atlanta Falcons on Tuesday. A second session will occur on Wednesday, and the two sides will conclude their collaborative week with a preseason game on Friday. The Titans struggled at Tuesday's practice, arising concerns from various veteran leaders. Jeffery Simmons voiced his disdain for the Titans' slow start. 'Guys have to come out ready,' Simmons said. 'If we start out slow during a game, we saw it last season, we're down 28-0. We keep saying we're starting slow. We started slow [joint practice] in Tampa [and now we started slow] in Atlanta. It's time to start fast.' Simmons wasn't the only Titans player to make the connection. Cornerback Jarvis Brownlee Jr. used an expletive to describe Tuesday's performance. Tight end Chig Okonkwo expressed similar concerns. Simmons referred to last season's 42-19 blowout defeat to the Washington Commanders in which they trailed 28-0 in the second quarter. In Week 3 versus the Green Bay Packers, they were down 20-7 at halftime. Brian Callahan has taken unique approaches this offseason to alter the mindset. Callahan's effectiveness as a head coach remains questionable after a 3-14 debut campaign, and hopefully slow starts aren't a staple of his leadership. Last week, Callahan chewed out the offense for a terrible performance at practice. Cam Ward and the Titans responded the following day by enjoying a significantly better session. Ideally, you'd like to see the offense (and defense) respond in similar fashion in Wednesday's second joint practice with the Falcons, and again in Friday's exhibition game. Callahan is entering the 2025 campaign on the hot seat. GM Mike Borgonzi didn't appoint him, Ran Carthon did. Callahan got his wish with Ward at No. 1 overall, so there's pressure to improve on a horrific 2024 campaign.
