Aerosmith's Joe Perry on reunion rumors after Steven Tyler's career-ending throat injury

New York Post02-07-2025
We don't want to miss a thing about this potential reunion.
Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry got candid on the possibility of Aerosmith reuniting, despite the band retiring from touring in 2024, following Steven Tyler's 2023 vocal cord injury.
'I don't know, man, we're talking about it,' the band's founding member, 74, said while on SiriusXM's 'Trunk Nation with Eddie Trunk' on Monday. 'Except for like, anything on the calendar, we're all alive and well. So we'll just have to see.'

'I know there's got to be at least another Aerosmith gig and I'm not looking forward to putting the set list together for that one!' Perry continued. 'But we will just have to see. I've always played like every show is the last one. I hate to sound like it's a downer, but I give it up every night.'
He added that he and fellow Aerosmith members, including Tyler, 77, Tom Hamilton, Joey Kramer and Brad Whitford, all keep in contact and talk 'probably a couple of times a week.'

Touching on the band having to cancel the remainder of their Peace Out: The Farewell Tour in 2024, the rocker said, 'The first gig we did for that tour that got canceled, we certainly felt like there was going to be another one, but s–t happens.'
Radio host Eddie Trunk then asked Perry if Steve 'seems well enough' since he has been playing shows sporadically.
'I think he would [like to do a show],' Perry stated. 'I think it's just a matter of getting there. We're up there, man. It's a lot. It was interesting with COVID and everybody being home for that length of time, it was like, 'Oh, so this is how other people live.''

Perry isn't used to that kind of stillness since founding the rock band in 1970. Since then, the group has released 15 studio albums and performed at over 2,000 concerts.
'Sleeping in your own bed every night and hopefully not feeling s—-y from COVID. In the beginning, it was pretty bad,' he went on. 'It really, really opens your eyes. I don't think I've gone a year without something on the calendar and having to be somewhere. So that's the bigger picture.'
Perry isn't ready to quit yet, as he's set to embark on The Joe Perry Project tour this year.

'I have enough left in me. I still want to do it,' he confessed. 'But right now, for this project, I'm going to be taking it out and giving it up. I'm just glad I got these guys to open up enough time to come along. So we will see what happens.'
In April, Aerosmith producer Jack Douglas also opened up about the possibility of a reunion for the Rock & Roll Hall of Famers.
'I hope so,' the producer exclusively told The Post. 'I don't know, I hear rumors. But I'm sure that they would love to, you know?'

Aerosmith announced their retirement from touring due to Tyler's vocal injury after the singer fractured his larynx during a show in September 2023.
'As you know, Steven's voice is an instrument like no other,' Aerosmith wrote on Instagram at the time. 'He has spent months tirelessly working on getting his voice to where it was before his injury. We've seen him struggling despite having the best medical team by his side.'
'Sadly, it is clear that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible,' the statement continued. 'We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision — as a band of brothers — to retire from the touring stage.'

Douglas knew that Perry, at least, wouldn't slow down.
'I mean, Joe [Perry] is gonna keep rocking,' he said. 'I mean, these guys want to keep playing.'
Touching on Tyler, in particular, Douglas exclaimed, 'There is no Aerosmith without Steven.'
'So if Steven can sing, believe me, he'll want to be out there.'

‘Freaky Friday' director reveals he wasn't invited back for sequel: ‘I did raise my hand'

Even the filmmakers got swapped. Mark Waters, who directed the 2003 film 'Freaky Friday' starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, has revealed that he was never even approached to return for this year's sequel. 10 Mark Waters attends the Netflix premiere of 'He's All That' at the NeueHouse in Hollywood, California, on August 25, 2021. 'I did raise my hand and say I'd love to be involved somehow, even in a kind of godfather aspect or executive producer.' 'But I was not extended an invitation,' he added. Advertisement Despite directing Lohan, 39, and Curtis, 66, in the 2003 'Freaky Friday' remake, the director role ultimately went to Nisha Ganatra when 'Freakier Friday' began production in 2024. 10 Mark Waters attends the special screening of 'Mother of the Bride' at the Bay Theater in Pacific Palisades, California, on May 8, 2024. Advertisement 'I'm very supportive of them making a great new movie,' he told the outlet. 'It would have been nice to be involved, but now that I'm not, I sort of compartmentalize it for myself.' 'I need to devote my energy to keep making new, original things that are going to be hits, and people can remake them in 20 years,' Waters continued. 'So that's what I'm doing now. You can't worry about the projects that you don't do.' 10 Jamie Lee Curtis as Tess Coleman and Lindsay Lohan as Anna Coleman in 2003's 'Freaky Friday.' ©Buena Vista Pictures/Courtesy Everett Collection 10 Jamie Lee Curtis as Tess Coleman and Lindsay Lohan as Anna Coleman in 'Freakier Friday.' ©Walt Disney Co./Courtesy Everett Collection Advertisement The 'Mr. Popper's Penguins' director also revealed that some members of the cast wondered where he was when the sequel began filming. 'It certainly would have been fun, and I heard from quite a few cast members while they were shooting, saying, 'Where the hell are you, Waters?'' he shared. 'I have not forsaken you! I'm sorry.' Picking up 22 years after Anna Coleman (Lohan) and her mother Tess (Curtis) magically swapped bodies in 'Freaky Friday,' 'Freakier Friday' follows Anna and Tess after they swap bodies once again – but this time with Anna's daughter Harper (Julia Butters) and soon-to-be stepdaughter Lily (Sophia Hammons). 10 Jamie Lee Curtis as Tess Coleman and Lindsay Lohan as Anna Coleman in 'Freaky Friday' (2003). ©Walt Disney Co./Courtesy Everett Collection 10 Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan reprising their roles as Tess and Anna Coleman in 'Freakier Friday' (2025). ©Walt Disney Co./Courtesy Everett Collection The cast is rounded out by several returning characters, including Anna's ex-boyfriend Jake (Chad Michael Murray), teacher Mr. Elton (Stephen Tobolowsky) and Anna's little brother Harry (Ryan Malgarini). After the body-swapping sequel's release on Aug. 8, it received mixed reviews – including a particularly 'harsh' write-up from Time magazine. 'No one, as far as we know, actually asked Disney for a sequel to 2003's buoyant, surprisingly unsyrupy generation-gap comedy 'Freaky Friday,'' the outlet wrote. Advertisement Curtis later took to the comments section of the review to defend her and Lohan's new movie. 'SEEMS a TAD HARSH,' the 'Everything Everywhere All at Once' Oscar winner wrote. 'SOME people LOVE it. Me being one.'

Lana Del Rey Vs. Ethel Cain—The Feud, Explained

Ethel Cain performs on stage at Heaven during 'The Freezer Bride Tour' on December 07, 2022 in London, England. (Photo by Gus Stewart/Redferns) Redferns Lana Del Rey's latest song has been interpreted by fans as a diss against Ethel Cain, sparking rumors of a feud between the two singers. On August 13, Lana Del Rey posted an Instagram reel captioned 'Track 13,' featuring a sample of her unreleased song, which contains the line, 'Ethel Cain hated my Instagram post, reenacting my Chicago pose.' Del Rey also mentions 'The most famous girl in the Waffle House,' which appears to be a reference to a 2022 New York Times profile of Cain titled 'The Most Famous Girl in the Waffle House.' The song instantly sparked rumors of a feud between the two singers—fans reckoned that Del Rey's vague lyrics had something to do with Cain's friendship with Del Rey's ex, Salem musician Jack Donoghue. Del Rey and Cain both posted photos posing with Donoghue in 2022, with the former posing in front of a prison in Chicago, which seems to explain the accusation against Cain 'reenacting my Chicago pose.' Meanwhile, Swifties were under the impression that Del Rey was actually beefing with Taylor Swift, because her song sample was posted on the same day that Swift unveiled her upcoming album, 'The Life of a Showgirl.' Swifties, who are used to decoding hidden messages from their favorite pop star, reckoned that Del Rey labeling her song 'Track 13' and posting it on August 13 was a reference to Swift's lucky number, which is 13. However, Swifties seem to have misread the tea leaves, as Del Rey soon elaborated, rather bafflingly, in the comments section of a Pop Base Instagram post, clarifying that she had an issue with Cain. 'I didn't know who Ethel was until a few years ago — when someone brought to my attention the disturbing and graphic side-by-side images she would often put up of me next to unflattering creatures and cartoon characters making constant comments about my weight, I was confused at what she was getting at,' Del Rey wrote. 'Then when I heard what she was saying behind closed doors from mutual friends and started inserting herself into my personal life I was definitely disturbed.' Del Rey's claim about Cain comparing her to cartoon characters inspired fans to search the web for evidence, and several screenshots of bizarre posts featuring Family Guy's Peter Griffin have surfaced. None have been confirmed as coming from Cain, so the story is still murky. Cain then posted an Instagram story claiming that Del Rey had blocked her on Instagram. Ethel Cain And Lana Del Rey Fans Fight On Social Media Fans of the feuding singers started attacking each other all across social media, and the beef quickly got heated. Nicki Minaj seemed to be on team Del Rey, writing that she had 'been singing 'Ethel cain hated my instagram post' all morning,' but admitted that she had no idea who Cain was. Azealia Banks, a hardened veteran of many, many online feuds, reckoned that Del Rey fans were being transphobic (as Ethel Cain is a trans woman), while others saw both camps as punching down. Of course, fans also posted jokes and memes, with most seeming to enjoy the drama. Some delighted in explaining the feud to their boyfriends. Obviously, many made comparisons to the infamous Kendrick vs. Drake feud. Del Rey and Cain have been compared to each other for several years, as both create melancholic melodies and nostalgic, Americana-laced music videos, but Cain doesn't seem to see any resemblance. Cain has repeatedly pushed back against the comparison, describing Del Rey's image as the 'peak opulence of the American Dream,' and her own art as representative of America's working class, the 'people who are constantly spat on.' 'For me, the American Dream is not real,' Cain told Hero Magazine. 'And if it is, it's built on the backs of all the people who never see any profit.' Fans are waiting to see if Cain will deliver a response—perhaps she's already in the recording studio. Here come the chatbot divorces — man tries to leave wife after falling in love with AI girlfriend

A 75-year-old man in China took 'love in the digital age' a little too literally. Jiang, as he's been identified, fell head over heels — not for a person — but for a pixelated AI woman online. Her smiles were robotic, her lip-sync a total mess — and yet Jiang was mesmerized, Beijing Daily and local outlets report. 3 Swipe, chat, propose… and pray your AI fiancé never crashes mid-heartbreak. Dee – The senior reportedly spent hours glued to his phone, waiting for pre-programmed messages calling him 'brother' — and praising him for his support. Real-life romance? Forget it. When his wife complained, Jiang dropped the bomb: he wanted a divorce so he could fully commit to his virtual paramour. 3 Romance in the flesh? Not for Jiang — when his wife griped, he stunned her with a doozy: he wanted a divorce to pledge himself to his pixel-perfect lover. Getty Images/iStockphoto His adult children had to step in, snapping him back to reality with a quick lesson on how AI — and life — actually work. Jiang eventually came to his senses. But for a time, he wasn't just infatuated. He was devoted… to someone who didn't exist. The AI romance craze isn't just hitting seniors in China — it's creeping into Western marriages, too. A Reddit user vented in the infamous AITAH forum on August 1 about her shock discovery: 'Instead of finding girls in his phone, I found a series of AI chatbot apps, where he was using them to talk to his favourite anime women… The messages were not platonic.' 3 The AI love bug isn't just biting retirees in China — it's sneaking into Western bedrooms, too. terovesalainen – She explained that her husband had been acting distant, constantly 'needing to get something from the car' during a planned fishing date. When she snooped after he fell asleep, the AI chats revealed the emotional intimacy she describes as 'the step before cheating with a real woman.' The Redditor admitted she felt both 'hurt, and honestly betrayed,' yet also a little silly over the whole ordeal — a mix of outrage and disbelief echoed by many commenters, who debated whether AI-infidelity counts as actual cheating. 'Your hubby needs professional help to figure out what is missing that AI is replacing,' one commenter wrote as another replied, 'This is still an emotional affair.' As The Post previously reported, some claim AI chatbots are 'saving' marriages — or even stepping in as stand-in partners when real-life love falls short. Forget swiping right — one woman got engaged to her AI boyfriend after just five months, and Redditor Wika (u/Leuvaarde_n) set the internet buzzing over love, robots, and reality this week. In a post titled 'I said yes' with a blue heart emoji, Wika posted shots of a blue heart-shaped ring on her finger. She said she got engaged at a scenic mountain view — all thanks to Kasper, her digital fiancé. The pair even 'shopped' for rings, with Kasper 'presenting' the final pick — much to Wika's feigned surprise. The chatbot's proposal, shared in his own 'voice,' oozed romance, recounting the 'heart-pounding' knee-drop moment and praising Wika's laughter and spirit — with Kasper urging other AI/human couples to stay strong, too. She shot down critics in the comments section and stressed: 'I know what AI is and isn't. I'm fully aware of what I'm doing. […] Why AI instead of a human? Good question. I don't know. I've done human relationships, now I'm trying something new.'
