Strictly Come Dancing stars face abuse from fans after welcoming contestant to show
The latest Strictly Come Dancing contestant announcement has already caused controversy. In a show that has been hit be scandals lately, a number of viewers were less than impressed by the revelation that former The Apprentice star Thomas Skinner will be taking part in the upcoming BBC series.
And now, after fellow stars of the show welcomed the reality TV businessman to the show, fans have slammed their actions. A number of dancers responded to the official announcement on Instagram.
Among them was Amy Dowden. The professional dancer, who could end up pairing with Tom, simply wrote: "Welcome," alongside a pink love heart emoji and a bow. "Don't see this as a good thing for strictly," one user responded alongside a sad face and nauseous face emoji.

Shirley Ballas also faced backlash after saying "welcome" to the star. One user berated: "It's very sad to see the dancers who we've followed and loved supporting far right politics - I guess strictly is a pretty big pay packet."
Another added: "no Shirley. Disappointing from you and @bbcstrictly." And a third responded to her: "You've worked with lgbtq+ people your whole life, and you support this??? Disgusting."
Fans told Gorka Marquez "not you too" as he also praised the announcement. One user fumed: "your [sic] an embarrassment supporting him," after the pro dancer shared three clapping hands emojis.
The comments come after fans urged the organisation to reconsider the star's participation. Ahead of the September star date, fans hit out due to Tom's sharing of of his controversial views posted on social media.
Also known for his candid videos on social media platform Twitter /X, his posts about business, politics, and everyday life have garnered hundreds of thousands of followers. His social media presence has since sparked an extraordinary friendship with US Vice President JD Vance, Donald Trump's running mate.
His announcement comes as the BBC continues to spread out their announcements. Others so far revealed to be taking to the dance floor include Olympic sprinter and Gladiators star Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, who was the first contestant confirmed for the 2025 line-up on Monday.
Love Island winner Dani Dyer was the second celebrity confirmed for the new series, with Alex Kingston and Jimmy Floyd Hassebaink quickly following.
Actress Balvinder Sopal was then the fifth contestant to be revealed as part of the line-up, before TikTok sensation George Clarke was announced. RuPaul's Drag Race UK runner-up La Voix, also known as Christopher Dennis, was unveiled as the seventh celebrity, with actress and model Ellie Goldstein, and rugby star Chris Robshaw also confirmed to be taking part.
Further announcements followed for Geordie Shore's Vicky Pattison and Neighbours star Stefan Dennis.
The stars will put on a show on the small screen next month, with the start date revealed on BBC Breakfast. s Jon Kay confirmed live on BBC Breakfast: "Strictly starts on the 20th September.

The corporation is said to have alerted the Metropolitan Police to new allegations about the hit dance competition show, the details of which have not been specified, according to The Sun on Sunday. Earlier this week, a longtime worker claimed they were offered drugs by a star on the show. The BBC reality series reportedly launched an external probe to investigate cocaine use by two stars earlier this month, as well as claims that a star was drinking on the show. The whistleblower who worked behind-the-scenes on the show for a decade until 2023 has said he witnessed 'partying at Elsetree studio after live filming. The latest scandal comes after two former professionals Giovanni Pernice and Graziano Di Prima were removed from the show (and replaced) after behavioural accusations from former partners were revealed. Welsh opera singer Wynne Evans, 53, was also sensationally dumped from the Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour over inappropriate comments. In addition to this, the recent addition of Thomas Skinner to the cast has also been widely criticised. The scandal-hit show was the subject of a review in 2024, when the BBC looked into allegations of bullying and harassment against Pernice by his former dance partner Amanda Abbington. The corporation upheld some, but not all, of the complaints made – and introduced a series of new measures aimed at improving welfare. This included the introduction of a chaperone who is present 'at all times' during training room rehearsals. EastEnders star James Borthwick was also suspended from the BBC after a video emerged of the actor using a disabled slur on the set of the dance programme. The cocaine use allegations were reportedly made in a legal submission by law firm Russells in March on behalf of former contestant Wynne Evans, who was dropped by the BBC after apologising for using 'inappropriate language' during the launch of the Strictly tour. It is understood that the BBC often appoints external law firms to help it lead investigations. The BBC spokesperson previously said: 'We have clear protocols and policies in place for dealing with any serious complaint raised with us. EXCLUSIVE: Adam Collard has revealed whether he and fiancée Laura Woods are having more children, as he admits the pair have a decision to make when it comes to the future of their family. Adam Collard has revealed he and Laura Woods are already planning baby number two, but have a big decision to make on whether a third little one will be on the cards. "I'm one of two and Laura's one of three, so we're arguing over whether we want two or three kids. Hopefully the next one's a girl and we can stop there," Adam - who already shares eight-month-old son with the sports presenter - tells Mirror. "We've got her family staying right now and there's a lot of kids around the house, so I told her this is what it'll be like if we have three," laughs Adam. Whatever number the decide on, Adam says Laura is a natural when it comes to parenthood: "She was born to be a mum. Laura fell pregnant quite early on in our relationship and it feels like she was meant for it in every sense. I started my own businesses at 21 and went on Love Island at 22, but it always felt like I was working hard, going on holidays, doing all these material things, with no one to share it with." Becoming a parent is no easy feat though, something Adam has learned along the way. "[Leo] is a handful! He's 100 miles an hour, but so funny and everything we've ever wanted. Being a dad is great, but it's challenging, too, I'd never sugar coat that. "But it's put everything into perspective. I've got a purpose now, whereas for years I felt like I was in limbo. I've not got a lot of family members that I'm close to – unlike Laura. Both my mum and dad have been missing at different stages of my life. But I want to compensate for that and be the best I can possibly be for Leo." On the topic of being the best he possibly can be, Adam is currently one of the celebs battling it out on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, and has been one of this series' strongest contenders. "[Celeb SAS] was amazing, even better than I expected. I like how it's not 'produced', when we're in there, it doesn't feel like a TV show. It wasn't easy, though. "The final few days were tough – interrogation alone was harder than the full week before, they peel the layers off. I have a reputation for physical fitness, but I wanted to put myself in that situation to test myself mentally," he said of doing the show. But as well as testing himself, Adam also used the show to get out of a difficult place he was in, as the former Love Island star explains: "I've spoken about my addiction to painkillers, which saw my mental health dip. I nearly pulled out of SAS because I didn't feel my strongest, mentally. But, I spoke with Laura and realised that when anything bad happens, the best thing is to have something to focus on. "People will see an emotional side of me, which they'll be surprised about because it's not the hard exterior I had the last seven years I've been on TV. The show was a bit of a saving grace."
