'Wednesday' Returns for Season 2 on Netflix in 2 Parts originally appeared on Parade.
When Netflix's Wednesday premiered in late 2022, it took the streaming world by storm. Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) kidnapped our hearts and left us wanting more in just eight episodes. Just a few days after the series' release, Netflix's official X account posted, "Wednesday now holds the record for most hours viewed in a week for an English-language series on Netflix, with 341.2 MILLION HOURS!" The streaming giant also revealed that the supernatural mystery series was "#1 in 83 countries, tying the record set by Stranger Things 4."
By June 2023, the show became Netflix's most-watched English-language series ever, overtaking Stranger Things 4 for the top position with 251.2 million views in its first 91 days. The show was unquestionably a smashing success. Bloomberg reported in December 2023 that there are already talks of a spinoff featuring the Uncle Fester character played by Fred Armisen.

Ortega presented at the Primetime Emmy Awards in January 2024 and was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. Wednesday racked up four Creative Arts Emmys for costumes, music, makeup and production design.
Here is everything you need to know about the mysterious Netflix series, including burning fan questions regarding Wednesday Season 2, which will release in two parts in 2025.
What is the release date for Wednesday Season 2?
Wednesday Season 2 will release in two batches. The first four episodes will release on Aug. 6, 2025. Then, less than a month later, on Sep. 3, the last four episodes of Season 2 will become available.
What happened in Wednesday Season 1?
Wednesday Addams "attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago—all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships of the strange and diverse student body."
The first season is full of twists and turns as Wednesday attends Nevermore Academy and seeks to discover the mysterious creature slaughtering the people of Jericho while coming to grips with the antagonistic relationship between "outcasts'' and "normies."
The concluding episode, "Murder of Woes," answers questions that persisted throughout the first season. Ms. Marilyn Thornhill (Christina Ricci), is revealed to be Laurel Gates, the master of the Hyde—a terrifying class of monsters who appear as humans. This episode also reveals that Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan) is the Hyde that has been terrorizing the town, led by Gates/Thornhill's grooming.
Meanwhile, Gates/Thornhill murders Principal Weems, played by Game of Thrones alum Gwendoline Christie. Wednesday's roomie werewolf Enid Sinclair (Emma Myers) finally wolfs out and has an epic fight with Tyler in his Hyde form, ultimately beating him.
With the help of siren Bianca Barclay (Joy Sunday), Wednesday destroys the zombified Joseph Crackstone (William Houston), Laurel Gates' ancestor and the town's founder who despises the outcasts. Ultimately, Wednesday's likable, nerdy pal Eugene Ottinger (Moose Mostafa) uses his psychic powers to defeat Gates with a swarm of bees.
Season 1 ends with two cliffhangers: Tyler transforms into Hyde form while imprisoned on a truck, and Wednesday receives a note revealing she has a stalker.

What will Wednesday Season 2 be about?
From the Emmys red carpet in January 2024, Ortega told The Hollywood Reporter that there are big things to come: "We're definitely leaning into a little more horror. Everything is bigger. It's a lot more action-packed."
Then, in an exclusive with Vanity Fair released in February, Ortega revealed a few more clues as she had been reading scripts at the time of the interview.
"But even reading scripts has been exciting, seeing all the new characters that are coming in. We're definitely expanding on the supernatural world," she said. Ortega also expanded on previous statements that each episode of Season 2 feels like a movie.
"In the first season, we had episodes that really stood out visually, like the dance episode was a really big one for people, and that setting was very particular and it felt like Prom Night, a little bit, or Carrie. Every episode [of Season 2] that I've read so far is like that," she said. "It just stands out on its own as a very memorable scene or bit or setting, which I think is what I'm most excited for, because to pull that off for eight episodes is, I think, really incredible and really lucky."
In a June 2023 video appearance for the Netflix Tudum: A Global Fan Event in Brazil, cast members Sunday, Myers, and Doohan contemplated fan theories about what's coming next.
Something that teaser confirms: A new Addams family member will be introduced!
Co-showrunner Miles Millar shared in an earlier Variety interview that they 'have a pretty clear runway of what we want to do in future seasons.'
'The series is really about a girl who sees the world in black and white, and learning there are shades of gray,' co-showrunner Al Gough tells TVLine. 'I think like any relationship or any friendship, it can get complicated by other factors. It's never going to be smooth sailing. And it's really her learning to navigate the ups and downs of friendship.'
For example, with signs that Tyler may be freed from custody, fans could see more of Tyler and Wednesday, though not with the same romantic dynamics they once had. Tyler could have more free will now that Ms. Thornhill (aka Laurel Gates) has been eliminated. This could lead to him learning how to control his violent desires, hopefully becoming an aid to Wednesday again. Wishful thinking, but we can expect Wednesday and Thing to travel to hell and back to find out the identity of her stalker.
Ortega became involved in the writing for her character in the first season to the point of being "almost unprofessional," she told The Hollywood Reporter in early 2023. She will be a producer for Season 2.

Who's not returning for Wednesday Season 2?
Unfortunately, fans may not see Gwendoline Christie (Principal Weems) and Wednesday's therapist played by Riki Lindhome (Dr. Valerie Kinbott). Both characters were killed in Season 1 ... or were they?
"I feel like Larissa Weems would never be dominated by something as commonplace as death," Christie told TV Guide last year.
Furthermore, a cast announcement from Netflix revealed that three Season 1 series regulars will not be returning in that capacity next season: Percy Hynes White, Jamie McShane and Naomi J Ogawa.
McShane is expected to reprise his role as Sheriff Donovan Galpin as a guest star, presumably to wrap his character's storyline.

Who does Christina Ricci play in Wednesday Season 2?
Christina Ricci's return also is uncertain. While her character is beaten, that doesn't mean she won't pursue retaliation. Also, fans don't actually see her character die.
In March 2023, Ricci told Entertainment Tonight that she didn't think she was allowed to say anything about a return, then added, "On my end, the door is open. She was so fun to play! It's always so fun to play a villain."
Fans will recall that Ricci played Wednesday Addams in the 1991 film The Addams Family and its 1993 sequel, Addams Family Values.
Who will be Nevermore's new principal?
After the perceived death of Principal Weems, many fans are wondering who will take charge of leading Nevermore Academy. The identity of the new principal of Nevermore has yet to be announced, although it's expected that Steve Buscemi's character will be the new head of the school.
Could Bianca be the new villain in Wednesday Season 2?
Bianca is introduced in Season 1 as the queen bee of Nevermore, Xavier's ex-girlfriend and Wednesday's adversary. However, as the season progresses, Bianca's connection with Wednesday evolves while we also get glimpses of Bianca's tumultuous past.
Her mother, Gabrielle, is also a siren who belongs to a "church" called Morning Song. Her mother sees Morning Song as a 'personal development movement,' but Bianca clearly does not see the cult that way.
Gabrielle's visit to see her daughter at school reveals that Bianca fled Morning Song and changed her name. She also implies that Bianca used her powers unfairly to get into the academy. She also tells her daughter that she married the Morning Song's leader, Gideon, much to Bianca's chagrin.
Bianca's mother insists that she leave the school and return to Morning Song, explaining that her siren song abilities are drying up. Because of that, the organization's recruitment numbers are low, and people are starting to ask questions. Gabrielle's ultimatum: Bianca must return to use her siren song or have her secret exposed about gaining admission to Nevermore Academy.
That context creates at least the potential for Bianca and Morning Song to emerge as the villains in Season 2.

Will Bianca leave Nevermore to return to the Morning Song cult?
Meanwhile, Sunday told Deadline it would be out of character for Bianca to willingly go, stating "Bianca doesn't seem like someone who stands in the background at all. I think, even if she was forced to leave Nevermore, I don't think she would really leave. I think she has a lot more strength and fortitude in her.'
Is Xavier going to be Wednesday's new love interest?
If you've seen the first season, it's safe to say that Wednesday clearly has a complicated relationship with Xavier. He has expressed many times throughout the show that he likes Wednesday, but the titular character picks Tyler.
After suspecting that Xavier is the Hyde, Wednesday gets him arrested by Sheriff Galpin, Tyler's dad, which sours the already complex relationship. However, Wednesday redeems herself after wrongfully accusing Xavier by taking an arrow to her shoulder for him. Fans last see him gifting Wednesday a cellphone, an item she's never owned before.
In an MTV News video, Myers asks Ortega about what's next for the love triangle in Season 2, to which Ortega replies, "Now that Tyler's off the table, I feel like she's off of boys for a while. I feel like her and Xavier are just getting to a safe place. I think there's an opportunity there for a really sweet platonic relationship."
Will Xavier's dad appear in Wednesday Season 2?
Xavier's famous dad, Vincent Thorpe, is discussed throughout Season 1 but never appears, even standing his son up on parents' weekend. It'll be a missed opportunity not to introduce the mysterious Vincent Thorpe in Season 2. It will help fans understand Xavier's brooding behavior and the context behind his poor relationship with his father.

Who is Wednesday's stalker?
Everyone is a suspect. For Jenna Ortega, not even Enid is ruled out. In a video from TV Guide, Jenna says, "Maybe Enid. Maybe Enid is just in love with Wednesday."
Who is directing the Netflix Wednesday TV series?
Tim Burton, described by Netflix as a "visionary director and lifelong Addams Family fan," made his TV directorial debut with the new Wednesday series.
Burton confirmed in early 2024 that he will be involved with Season 2, and in September 2024, we learned that he will be directing four episodes of Season 2, the same number as Season 1. Ortega also said early in 2024 that each episode of Season 2 will feel more like interconnected movies. The combination of statements leaves open the idea that others could take their turn at directing. We'll keep our eyes on that one, for sure.
Who composed the music for Wednesday?
It is unknown whether the second season will be composed by Danny Elfman, a longtime Burton colleague. Wednesday's first season featured music by Elfman, who has previously composed music for films such as Edward Scissorhands, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Alice in Wonderland.
Is there an official trailer for Wednesday Season 2?
Yes! Netflix released the official trailer for Wednesday Season 2 on July 9, 2025. In it, we get a hint as to some of the larger mysteries of the season, including Wednesday's vision of Enid's death, which is supposedly her fault.
What are other Jenna Ortega movies and shows?
Most recently, Ortega starred as Astrid, the daughter of Lydia Deetz, in the much anticipated Beetlejuice sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. It was released in September 2024, more than three decades after the original. Based on a story by Seth Grahame-Smith, Tim Burtondirected the film with the screenplay written by Wednesday creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar.
Prior to Wednesday, Ortega gained attention with her performance in the latest installment of Scream and in Season 2 of Netflix's You. The 20-year-old is also recognized for her roles in Jane the Virgin as a young Jane and in the Disney Channel series Stuck in the Middle.
Is Netflix Wednesday a cartoon?
No, Netflix's Wednesday is not a cartoon. However, Wednesday Addams is part of The Addams Family, a TV series and movie franchise that drew its aesthetic from the work of American cartoonist Charles Addams.

This Video Of Mariah Carey Finding Out That Katy Perry Went To Space Is The Funniest Thing I've Seen All Week, And You Need To Watch It

Back in April, Katy Perry and five others took a 10-minute trip to space thanks to Jeff Bezos's Blue Origin aerospace company, and it was basically all anyone talked about for about a week. Maybe even two. Blue Origin / Via Gilbert Flores / Getty Images Between the backlash and memes, the interviews and think-pieces, it's almost impossible to imagine that anyone with access to the internet could've missed the news. Which brings us to the one and only, Mariah Carey. Related: In a new interview with the BBC, radio host Scott Mills asked Mariah if she could ever see herself following in Katy's footsteps — only to very quickly realize she had no idea what he was talking about. Even with her big black shades on, the confusion on Mariah's face was evident. 'Did she go to space?' she said. Related: Mariah has a reputation for leaning into a bit every now and then if she's feeling shady; however, in this instance, she appeared genuinely baffled as she dug for answers: 'Where'd she go?!' she asked, looking around the room. Someone off camera chimed in to give Mariah the context that she needed — i.e., that Katy's space mission was rather brief — and the music icon was even more intrigued. 'Into orbit and back? She's like, floating in the…,' she said. 'And this is true?' BBC / Via Related: When Scott clarified that he was, in fact, not making it up, Mariah expressed her admiration, while also seeming totally unbothered by the whole thing, which is a skill in itself. 'Wow, alright Katy,' she said, totally deadpan. 'I'm not mad at her. That's pretty amazing.' And just when you thought the clip couldn't get any better, Scott returns to his initial question of, 'Would you do it?' to which she replied: 'I think I've done enough.' Indeed, you have, Mariah. It truly doesn't get more iconic than that. The video has only been up for a few hours, and already, people are obsessed — not only with the fact that Mariah had no idea about the space trip, but just how chill she is about the whole thing. 'I want to be THIS genuinely chill about actually everything,' one TikTok user wrote. ''I think I've done enough' says it all 🤣' added another. 'Mariah lives in her own World. everyone else is irrelevant 😅,' commented someone else, while another said: 'Only space she knows, is her own 🤣 - Queen Aura' Related: Well, if we needed any more confirmation that Mariah is simply not like the rest of us, then this was it. The duo reunites for ‘Freakier Friday': What Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan have been up to since 2003

More than 20 years after 'Freaky Friday' became a generational favorite, Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are back on screen together. The sequel hits theaters Friday, picking up years after the original and introducing a new generation to the mother-daughter body-swap comedy. Released in 2003 as a remake of the 1976 film, 'Freaky Friday' followed a tightly wound mother and her rebellious teenage daughter who magically switch bodies after a fortune cookie mishap and are forced to live each other's lives for a day. The film earned over $160 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo. Since then, both actors have taken different paths in Hollywood, but have found their way back to their roles as Tess and Anna Coleman. From Activia ads to the Academy Awards: Jamie Lee Curtis After 'Freaky Friday,' Curtis shifted focus to her literary career and made frequent commercial appearances, including a long-running campaign for Activia. She later returned to acting in both television and film, according to Rotten Tomatoes. 'You Again' (2010) 'Christmas with the Kranks' (2004) 'NCIS' (recurring role, 2012) 'Halloween' films (1978–2022) 'Knives Out' (2019) 'Everything Everywhere All at Once' (2022) — won Academy Award for best supporting actress Curtis has written several bestselling children's books, including 'Tell Me Again About the Night I Was Born' and 'Big Words for Little People." In recent years, Curtis has become a public advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and visibility around aging in Hollywood. She has spoken openly about parenting a transgender daughter and addressing industry-wide ageism. According to The Guardian, during a 2018 global press tour for 'Halloween,' fans consistently asked her about a potential 'Freaky Friday' sequel. That interest prompted her to call Disney CEO Bob Iger. 'I said: 'Look, I don't know if you're planning on doing (a sequel), but Lindsay is old enough to have a teenager now, and I'm telling you the market for that movie exists,'' Curtis recalled. A new chapter for Lindsay Lohan Following her time as Anna Coleman, Lohan became one of the most recognized teen stars of the early 2000s. She faced a period of personal and legal difficulties in the years that followed, stepping back from the spotlight before reemerging in the 2020s. 'Mean Girls' (2004) 'Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen' (2004) 'Herbie: Fully Loaded' (2005) 'Falling for Christmas' (2022) 'Irish Wish' (2024) Lohan's career was interrupted by challenges that drew heavy media attention. In the past few years, she's quietly reemerged with a more measured public image. Lohan married financier Bader Shammas in 2022 and welcomed their first child in 2023. In recent interviews, she's spoken about her renewed focus on family and work-life balance. Lohan and Curtis reflect on 20 years When asked what had changed the most in the 20 years since the pair had worked together, Lohan told the "Today Show Australia," 'I've had a kid,' prompting Curtis to laugh and add, 'And mine have grown up.' 'I've lived such a long life in a such a short amount of time, really, and I've learned so many lessons,' Lohan said. 'I'm really grateful for my life today and I'm really appreciative for it. I wouldn't really want to switch with anyone. I wouldn't give up a moment in my shoes with my son or my husband or my family.' At the film's world premiere at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, Curtis explained the timing behind the sequel. 'There's math involved. You couldn't make this movie if Lindsay didn't have a teenage daughter, so she had to be old enough,' Curtis told TheWrap. 'And there's a nostalgia about the movie. In a time of turmoil, you cling to something nostalgic and familiar, so it's like comfort food.' 'I think 'Freaky Friday' is sort of cinema comfort food,' she added. 'It's satisfying, makes you feel good, makes you laugh, makes you cry.' Solve the daily Crossword
