Broos pleased with Bafana Bafana and PSL teams' continental strides

Hugo Broos is proud of the upward trajectory of Bafana Bafana and PSL sides' in Africa recently as he believes the two parties have had a beneficial relationship.
The kings of continental football will officially be crowned in Cairo on Sunday night as PSL outfit Mamelodi Sundowns will be away to Egyptians, Pyramids.
The South Africans are on a backfoot heading into the match as the hosts have an away goal advantage after the first leg ended in a 1-1 draw last Saturday in Pretoria.
However, whatever happens after the final whistle, Sundowns have already made the nation proud by marching all the way to the final for the first time since 2016.
The Brazilians were not the only PSL team that flew the national flag high on the continent, though, as rivals Orlando Pirates and Stellenbosch also made their mark.
Pirates, of Mohau Nkota who also received his first Bafana call-up, and Stellies went as far as the Champions League and Confederation Cup semi-final in which they lost to Pyramids and Simba respectively.
The trio's strides in Africa augurs well for the national team as Bafana aim to win Afcon for the first time in 29 years in December and are on the brink of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.
But with Sundowns set to play in the FIFA Club World Cup next month in the US, Broos decided against calling up their players for the two friendlies in June.
Bafana will face Tanzania at New Peter Mokoba Stadium on Friday in the first friendly, before hosting Mozambique at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium four days later in the last one.
Broos' final 23-member squad for the two matches is largely made up of Pirates players, and that's why he's expected to start most of them in Polokwane - setting the tone for the friendlies.
After all, Pirates - like Sundowns and Stellies - know what it takes to navigate the continent after their stellar strides in recent months.
'The reason why Bafana was doing well in the past 10 years is because most of the players were coming from the teams that played on the continent,' Broos, the Bafana coach, said.
'They had the experience of a level that is a little higher than the PSL, and that helped a lot. When I came here I had players that didn't have much international experience.
'So, we have that now - Pirates were close to playing in the final. We could have had a final between two SA teams - Mamelodi Sundowns and Pirates.
'If you have that it means the progression that SA teams had in the past few years has been very good.
'And I also think the progress that Bafana had also helped the teams to achieve those performances and results (on the continent).'
Sure, Sundowns' players will be absent from the camp, but Broos has emphasised that they'll always be his best players - that's why he declined a friendly against the No 1 ranked side in Africa, Morocco.
Broos, though, will also be interested to see how his Mamelodi Sundowns' counterpart Miguel Caroso uses the talismanic and fan-favourite Themba Zwane in the next few weeks.
Zwane recently returned from a lengthy injury, which was career threatening. As such, Cardoso has been trying to manage him, including benching him for the first leg.
'I can't judge now which level he's on,' Broos said of Zwane. 'So, maybe, it's a little bit too soon for him. So we will see what happens later.
'But again, when I see his talent and capabilities, I am sure that he can still help us (as the national team).
'Yes (I still believe in him), but he has to perform at the same level as before, and that is something I cannot judge now.'

Orlando Pirates players step up as Bafana Bafana prepares for friendlies
WITH Mamelodi Sundowns players not being included in the current Bafana Bafana setup ahead of two friendlies against Tanzania and Mozambique, it is not a secret that a lot of the weight to lead the side will be carried by Orlando Pirates' stars. Bafana play Tanzania at Peter mokaba Stadium on Friday night, 7.30pm kick-off before taking on Mozambique at Loftus on Tuesday. The positive news coming from Polokwane, where the national team set-up camp, is that they - Pirates players themselves, seem to understand the duty upon their shoulders quite well. Bafana coach Hugo Broos himself made it all clear on Monday when he named Pirates defender and one of the Betway Premiership side's leaders, Nkosinathi Sibisi, as his stand-in skipper in the absence of Sundowns goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams. Leading the defence for Bafana alongside Sibisi is expected to be the likes of Mbekezeli Mbokazi and Deano van Rooyen, who both played crucial roles getting Pirates to the semi-finals of the Caf Champions League. 'It's an honour to be selected for the Bafana Bafana squad. For me, I have been working hard to get this opportunity. You have to keep working hard, you'll never know when the opportunity will come. Now for us the focus is to get a chance in the two games and give my best,' said Van Rooyen. 'We had a good season at Orlando Pirates and a lot of our players gained a lot of experience of playing in the Caf Champions League. For us now it is a chance to help the country achieve good results in the next two games.' Van Rooyen and Sibisi are indeed among the experienced members of the squad. 'Yes we have a younger squad but as the coach has said, there is no pressure on us. So we must just go out there and perform and be ourselves,' said van Rooyen. Commenting on Sibisi's leadership, Van Rooyen said of the man who has captained him many times in the colours of the Buccaneers: 'He is someone who does not speak a lot but his work on the field speaks for itself. I think he is that kind of a leader. His experience on the field, I think will be good for us.' What should make the Pirates players' leadership duty easy, is the fact that other squad members themselves seem to be in unison. One such squad member is AmaZulu forward Tshepang Moremi, who believes everyone will have to seize the moment regardless of age or even seniority. 'Whether you are young or you are old, the important thing for us to understand is that it is our time,' said Moremi. 'This is my first callup and it was my first time meeting with the coach (Broos) yesterday (on Sunday). He told me that I have been working hard and so I deserve to be in this team and I must keep on working hard. 'He told me that whenever I play I must do my best because you never know who is watching. Moremi 'I am looking forward to keeping on improving and working hard. My main goal is to play in the Afcon and Fifa World Cup. 'It is very important to me to keep working hard and contribute to the team, either by scoring and assisting. Even in the upcoming two games, when I get a chance, I will try to either score or assist.'

New Orlando Pirates signing breaks silence on the move!
Orlando Pirates have wasted no time in their efforts to rebuild their squad ahead of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership campaign. Pirates finished the previous season as runners up to Mamelodi Sundowns for the third time in a row. They had a decent run in the cup competitions as well. They retained their MTN8 crown, winning it a record third time in a row. They then lost out in the final of the Nedbank Cup to arch rivals Kaizer Chiefs, while chasing a similar feat. But perhaps, more impressively, they had a stellar CAF Champions League campaign. They reached the semi-finals, before losing out to eventual winners Pyramids FC. Pirates were also able to top their group and go unbeaten in a group featuring Al Ahly. Now as they have drawn a close to a three-year era of Spanish coach Jose Riveiro, a new one ensues. Before even announcing their new coach, Pirates seem to already be backing him with the necessary tools. It is believed that they have already reached transfer agreements with at least five players ahead of the new season. One of those being Baroka FC star Tshepho Mashiloane. Mashiloane is set to move to Pirates from Baroka in a double deal that includes teammate Kabelo Kgositsile. After not being able to get Baroka into the playoffs, the versatile player admits it would've been the perfect parting gift. 'I would have loved to go to Orlando Pirates knowing that I have promoted my team [Baroka FC]. But I believe the guys will do well next season and promote the team. The chairman [Khurishi Mphahlele] has supported me and my move to Pirates and is happy. I will have to up my game when I get there [to Pirates] so I can stay competitive. I would love to get a chance to play in the cup competitions like the Carling Knockout Cup, MTN8, and Nedbank Cup. But I understand I need to work hard to earn it. I want to achieve a lot of things at Pirates.' Said Mashiloane as per FARPost. Pirates fans, what do you make of the signing of Mashiloane ahead of next season? 'Sundowns must recall Rulani' Former Kaizer Chiefs star
Former Kaizer Chiefs attacker Junior Khanye has advised Mamelodi Sundowns to bring back Rulani Mokwena. This comes after the Brazilians lost the CAF Champions League final to Pyramids on Sunday. Under Miguel Cardoso, Sundowns only defended the Betway Premiership but failed to win the Nedbank Cup and the Champions League. Mokwena, who was sacked in July, joined Wydad Casablanca but only survived for 10 months. Former Chiefs star Junior Khanye says Sundowns must bring back Rulani and part ways with Cardoso. 'If we can be honest, they signed him [Cardoso] because of the Champions League not because Rulani did anything wrong,' said Khanye on iDiski TV . 'So, they must get rid of him too. For me, I'd go to Rulani and maybe he too can humble himself as he is a free agent, come back and focus on your coaching because you are so talented, you are a genius.' Cardoso's style of play has been criticised, especially in the Champions League, where the club struggles despite reaching the final. Khanye feels Sundowns were playing better under Rulani hence Bafana Bafana's success. 'South Africa needs to hear me well on this one, with this gu,y it's not only Sundowns that benefits but the whole nation. We got to the AFCON because of Sundowns, whether someone doesn't believe this, I don't care because we are there because of Sundowns and Rulani took out the best out of those players. Credit to Pitso [Mosimane] for bringing in Rulani and Rulani for applying himself,: said the former Kaizer Chiefs winger.
