THE FANTASTIC FOUR Cast Describe AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY as "Epic," "Tragic," and "Mental" — GeekTyrant

Geek Tyrant17-07-2025
The next big thing for the MCU is the introduction of Marvel's first family in the upcoming film, The Fantastic Four: First Steps . This will hold us over for a year, film-wise, as the next movie on the slate is next summer's Spider-Man: Brand New Day . Each of these movies will lead into the next main event, Avengers: Doomsday , which is being compared to Avengers: Infinity War , the devastating start to what concluded in Avengers: Endgame .
This too will be a two-parter, with the follow up, Avengers: Secret Wars (2027), completing the story. Knowing that the Russo Brothers are returning to helm these epic movies gives us some hope that these will be solid flicks, but The Fantastic Four cast has also chimed in on their feelings about Doomsday, as they have already spent some time on set and have gotten a feel for the movie.
In a recent interview with BBC News, Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm/The Thing) and Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm/Human Torch) were asked to describe the next big MCU event film in four words, and the responses were, "Epic, tragic, intergalactic, starry," and "epic, mental, Robert, Downey and Jr."
This description sounds right. If the film is anything like Infinity War , it will certainly be epic and tragic. In a separate interview, Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm/Invisible Woman) was asked how it felt to be a part of Doomsday' s sprawling ensemble cast.
She responded, 'We're with all these guys that have done it for 18 years and it's just an amazing thing to be a part of. These guys have grown up together, they've had families, gone through life and they're still united in this tight family — and we're a new family coming into their family.'
Finally, Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic) was asked to "blink twice" if former Captain America actor Chris Evans is appearing in either First Steps or Doomsday during an interview with a German outlet.
'Are you speaking English or German? I can't tell. I didn't understand a word he said. I've just gone into… a blackout.'
Evans is not expected to show up in First Steps , but is rumored to be reprising his role as Steve Rogers in Doomsday .
Avengers: Doomsday is set to arrive in theaters on December 18, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars is set for release on December 17, 2027.

'Superman' Blows Past Zack Snyder's 'Man of Steel'

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors Is "Superman" the better movie, or is 2013's "Man of Steel" superior? You don't have to look far to find plenty of heated and often unfriendly debate on the subject online. But while the answer to which film is better is subjective, on Tuesday Forbes reported on a purely objective fact: the domestic box office earnings for "Superman" have just passed those for "Man of Steel," making the former movie the highest domestic grossing solo Superman film ever. Read More: 'Eyes of Wakanda' - Everything We Know So Far Of course, as Forbes notes, there are some caveats. On one hand there is the matter of inflation. "Man of Steel" made $291 million in 2013 and while "Superman" has passed that number, that $291 million in 2013 would be $407 million today. David Corenswet in "Superman". David Corenswet in "Superman". Warner Bros And on the other hand while "Superman" may be leaping tall buildings domestically, internationally its numbers remain soft. While "Man of Steel" ended its theatrical run earning $379 million overseas, "Superman" is only at $214 million internationally. So while "Superman" may have defeated "Man of Steel" domestically, Forbes argues that it's unlikely James Gunn's film is going overtake Zack Snyder's overall box office once the current theatrical run ends. As far as why "Superman" is having a much weaker time overseas than its 2013 counterpart, Gunn has offered a couple of possible reasons. He's argued that Superman isn't as much of a "known commodity" across the globe, though that begs the question of why "Man of Steel" did so well. "It also affects things that we have a certain amount of anti-American sentiment around the world right now," Gunn said. "It isn't really helping us." Regardless of how "Superman" plays out at the box office, critically it's been a hit with reviewers and fans. The film currently enjoys an 83% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 91% audience score. "Superman" is currently playing in theaters. The film is written and directed by James Gunn. "Superman" stars David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, and Isabela Merced. Kevin Feige Says ‘Captain America: Brave New World' Suffered From No Chris Evans

Captain America: Brave New World A new quote from Marvel head Kevin Feige on the fate of one of the only not-great superhero movies of the year, Captain America: Brave New World, has sparked a whole lot of debate over the course of the past day. Feige, at a recent roundtable event, discussed the issues with Brave New World and said 'It was the first without Chris Evans' as a reason it struggled. Perhaps not the only reason, but the rationale is being described as 'blunt,' to day the least. He's not wrong. This is not to say that new star and new Captain America Anthony Mackie did anything wrong, but he had not been set-up to succeed in any capacity. First, he had his entire 'becoming Cap' journey shuffled into a Disney Plus series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, that far fewer people would watch compared to a film. And as it turned out, it was actually better than his actual debut film. Second, mantle passing is just…incredibly difficult, especially in this case. Yes, this is something that happens in the comics eventually, but in the context of the MCU it's important to consider that Chris Evans' Steve Rogers was Cap 11 times over nine years. Sam only appeared as supporting character Falcon during that time, and only managed two appearances as the new Cap across five years (certainly Marvel's fault there). Captain America This would have happened with any role. If Jane Foster stuck around to become the new Thor in her own film, that would have underperformed past Thor movies. If She-Hulk (as a Hulk replacement) was a film, that would not have done well. If Ironheart (as an Iron Man replacement) was a film, that would not have done well. We just saw Yelena more or less sub in as the new Black Widow leading the Thunderbolts and that…did not do well, and that time the movie was even good. And if they actually made John Walker the real Captain America leading a whole film, I doubt it would have done any better than Brave New World. Feige is right. The movie suffered from not having Chris Evans, though that should not be taken as a knock against Mackie's performance. There were also plenty of other, very clear reasons the movie was bad as mainly, after awful editing and big reworks, it ended up being a baffling sequel to The Incredible Hulk, complete with the 'surprise climax' of President Ross turning into Red Hulk being the full-on marketing campaign, giving the film literally no dramatic tension. As it stands, it seems that Mackie's Sam Wilson is poised to be the new leader of the not-yet-really-reassembled Avengers, but once we get past Doomsday and Secret Wars, which will be a massive ensemble featuring Thor, Thunderbolts, the Fantastic Four and a bunch of X-Men, I do wonder what his actual future holds. We may not see him much after this, just like we haven't the last five years. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram. Pick up my sci-fi novels the Herokiller series and The Earthborn Trilogy.

Sydney Sweeney Is Facing A Backlash Over Her New American Eagle Campaign. Here's What People Are Saying

Sydney Sweeney's new collaboration with the fashion brand American Eagle has become the centre of a whole lot of debate. The Euphoria star unveiled a new campaign with the American clothing brand last week, to promote their line of denim last week. However, it didn't take long before social media clips to promote the deal sparked a wave of discomfort among many critics, largely due to some of the language that's used in the campaign. This is the story so far… What is Sydney Sweeney's new ad campaign for American Eagle all about? For American Eagle's autumn 2025 campaign, Sydney Sweeney can be seen sporting items from the brand's denim range, including a new pair of jeans inspired by her. The campaign also makes use of the slogan 'Sydney Sweeney has great jeans', a pun on the term 'great genes'. In another, she explains: 'Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair colour, personality and even eye colour.' 'My jeans are blue,' she then quips, at which point a narrator delivers the line: 'Sydney Sweeney has great jeans.' Why are some people upset about Sydney Sweeney's new ads for American Eagle? Unfortunately this repeated use of the slogan 'great jeans', a pun on 'great genes', has put some viewers in mind of the language used by white supremacists and eugenicists. By centring a blonde, white star in a campaign referencing 'genes', some critics are accusing the brand of tone-deafness at best – particularly in the current political climate – and deliberately pushing a white supremacist agenda at worst. HuffPost UK has contacted representatives for both Sydney Sweeney and American Eagle for comment. Others are pointing out that Sydney Sweeney's American Eagle campaign doesn't mention one other important aspect of the product American Eagle's new 'Sydney Jean' features a butterfly detail on its back pocket, in a nod to domestic violence awareness, a cause which the White Lotus star has championed throughout her career. In fact, an American Eagle press release confirmed that '100% of the purchase price from 'The Sydney Jean' will be donated to Crisis Text Line', a charity in the US which aims to help those affected by domestic violence. However, the ads are also being criticised for not highlighting this key part of the campaign, with some saying its accompanying slogan is even more jarring as a result. Has Sydney Sweeney or American Eagle said anything about the controversy?
