Maki opens up about experiencing harassment at an audition years ago

Trigger warning: Mentions of sexual harassment and abuse. Maki has opened up about the sexual harassment he experienced at an audition when he was only 15 years old. The OPM singer and songwriter guested on "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda" Thursday where he shared some of the struggles and rejections he faced when he was starting out in the industry. But there was one incident that significantly challenged him more than the rejections, he told Abunda. "Dito po ako pinakana-challenge if I were to pursue this industry. Actually 'di po 'to alam masyado ng mga tao sa akin, I don't even know if my parents know this," he said. According to Maki, he went to the audition because he wanted to surprise his parents. "I was 15 and sobra po akong full of passion, full of dreams, and then I auditioned. I did everything, nag-acting, nag-singing, dancing, in front of one person kasi ni-lock niya 'yung pinto," he said. In narrating the event, Maki artist had to pause and take deep breaths to continue. He did not drop any names. Maki recalled that after the audition, the person started asking him questions that were not appropriate for children. When asked by Abunda if he was sexually harassed, he initially said that he is not sure if he could call it such. When asked again if he was "verbally, sexually harassed" and felt violated by what the person did, Maki answered in the affirmative. "Opo, yes po," he said, confirming to Abunda that the person asked him sexual questions. Per Maki, he did not know how to answer the person's questions, adding he also no longer remembers what he answered. "Sabi po kasi niya is, 'kailangan alam namin 'tong mga bagay na 'to kasi dapat kilala ka namin as an artist,'" he recalled. "So ako po, naniwala po ako, so kung anu-ano pong sinabi ko na mga bagay na-expose — feeling ko po, first time ko po kasi mahiyain po akong bata eh." During that time, Maki told the person that he needed to go to the comfort room so he could leave the room. "Di na po 'ko bumalik, tapos nag-jeep po ako pauwi, tapos umiiyak po ako sa jeep. Dun ko lang po na-realize na hindi ko po alam kung ano 'yung ginawa sa akin pero na-realize ko po that time, I was thinking about my dream. 'Yun lang po nasa isip ko, pumunta po ako ng kwarto na 'yun for my dream," he said. Maki also said he went home in tears not because of what the person did to him, but because he thought the industry might be too harsh for him to handle and be able to pursue his dream. "Maybe I'm not ready yet for this dream, so if my dream is too big, baka di ako big enough to achieve it." He also clarified to Abunda that the person did not physically violate him, saying, "Hindi po, hindi ko rin po hahayaan." Maki is known for the songs "Dilaw," "Saan?" "Kailan?" "Bughaw," "Kahel na Langit," and more. He is set to release his album "Kolorcoaster" on September 19. The Philippines has several mental health hotlines and services. Vince Maristela enjoying the moment as fans get kilig over Akiro, Terra in 'Sang'gre'

Vince Maristela plays the best friend of Bianca Umali in "Encantadia Chronicles: Sang'gre," and fans are loving the hint of possible romance between their characters Akiro and Terra. Akiro is a steadfast supporter of Terra as she uses her powers to help people in need, even creating her Sang'gre superhero costume from scratch. On the sidelines of the GMA Gala 2025, Vince told GMA News Online that he is simply enjoying the moment now that fans are seeing the scenes they worked on for a long time. "Nakakatuwa lang kapag nakikita ko sa social media kung ano 'yung mga comments ng mga tao na napapamahal sila sa character ko at ako din naman, hindi din kasi naglalayo 'yung character ko with Akiro," he said. "Ganun talaga 'yung character ko, medyo hopeless romantic. Nakikita naman ng tao 'yun, at sobrang proud ako kasi lumalabas 'yung effectiveness ko as an actor," he added. Among the scenes that made viewers kilig was when Terra grabbed Akiro's hand and when Akiro told Terra in a soft voice to calm down. In the upcoming episodes, it seems like their friendship will be tested with a reward being offered to those who can identify Sang'gre and Akiro's family suddenly facing trouble. Meanwhile in real life, Vince is also charming fans as himself on X. He engages netizens in playful banter and he has become a happy pill for many online. The Sparkle actor, who finished his stint inside the "Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition" in May, said he did not expect to get that reaction from the platform. "Nung una gusto ko lang talagang mag-check ng X kung pa'no 'yung mga tao dun at natutuwa lang ako kasi nakakuha ako ng humor, nakuha ko 'yung humor nila," he said. "Kaya ine-enjoy ko din talaga makipag-usap sa mga fans kasi alam mo naman, grabe din 'yung suporta nila sa akin," he added. "Encantadia Chronicles: Sang'gre" airs weeknights on GMA Prime at 8 p.m. after "24 Oras." You can also watch it on YouTube via the Kapuso Livestream. Hindi fifth wheel si @VinceMaristela sa 'Sang'gre,' hopeless romantic lang. BarDa fans raise more than P100K for children's education, emergency aid

Fans of Barbie Forteza and David Licauco have donated over P100K in support of children's rights Two fan clubs of Barbie Forteza and David Licauco have come together to raise more than P100,000 in support of support of children's rights. Both GMA Sparkle artists are ambassadors of Save the Children, to whom the BarDa Fans Club donated P100,000 while Barbienatics contributed P10,000. The sums of money were raised from donation drives launched to celebrate the birthdays of the celebrities; David's in June and Barbie's in July. In a statement, Barbie said "Being loved and supported by our fans is already such a blessing. Knowing they now also stand for what we stand for, especially for children's rights and education, is truly moving. Lala na ngayon, when many families have ben affected by recent typhoons and floods." "We're proud of the fans who are now advocates, too. Salad kami sa Inyo. Thank you for using your energy and generosity to support something bigger than all of us like the future of children," David added. The donation comes as Save the Children ramps up its emergency response for families affected by tropical cyclones Crising, Dante, and Emong, and the rains brought about by the Southwest Monsoon. The fans' support also reflects the broader commitment of GMA Network, a media partner of Save the Children Philippines. As the home of both artists, GMA currently airs Forteza in the ongoing primetime teleserye 'Beauty Empire' and the recently released horror film 'P77,' while Licauco stars in the action series 'Never Say Die.' 'Thank you very much to BarDa FC for Project BarDa Cares, and of course to Barbie, David, and to GMA Network for making all this possible. Every contribution you give comes from the heart and goes to children in need,' said Save the Children Chief Executive Officer Alberto Muyot. Save the Children continues to deliver programs that ensure children stay healthy, learn, are protected and can meaningfully participate—whether in daily life or during emergencies. These efforts are made possible with the support of partners, ambassadors, and communities like the BarDa fandom.
