In message to BJP, EPS says AIADMK will form government as ‘single largest party'
Addressing a party meeting at Ulundurpet in Kallakurichi district on Sunday night, he further said no one would be able to 'swallow' the AIADMK as alleged by the DMK.
The idea of a coalition government has been a sticking point in the AIADMK-BJP alliance right from the day it was announced by Shah in Chennai on April 11, when he said that the alliance will win the 2026 Assembly election and form a coalition government.
As this did not go down well with AIADMK's rank and file since Tamil Nadu has never had a coalition government, Palaniswami, who maintained silence initially, told the media a few days later that Shah's words were misinterpreted.
However, the issue has cropped up again as Shah, in a recent interview to a Tamil media outlet, clearly said that there will be coalition government in 2026 in TN and that the BJP will be a part of it.

While a few senior AIADMK leaders expressed disagreement with Shah's remarks, Palaniswami had not reacted directly to him until now. On Sunday, his remarks of AIADMK forming the government as the 'single largest party' came when he was attacking the ruling DMK for its alleged governance failure and blaming it for being scared of the AIADMK-BJP alliance.
Political analyst Tharasu Shyam said Palaniswami's remarks indicated that the party would contest in a sizeable number of seats, say around 150, with the intention of securing a majority on its own.

K.N. Nehru questions EPS silence on Amit Shah's statement on forming coalition government
Claiming that the DMK alliance was strong, the party's principal secretary and Minister for Municipal Administration, K.N. Nehru, on Tuesday said it was the AIADMK alliance that was in a dilemma on whether to form a coalition government or not. Speaking to reporters here, he said AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswamy was claiming for so long that it would form a grand alliance to take on the DMK alliance. Some leaders claimed that some constituents of the DMK alliance would break away from it. But the DMK alliance remained strong. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin had said that differences, if any, with the alliance partners would be sorted out at the time of election. On the other hand, the AIADMK was yet to take a clear stand on forming a government on its own or leading a coalition government. It was initially stated that the AIADMK would lead the National Democratic Alliance government, if it won the election. Home Minister Amit Shah, when he visited Madurai recently stated that the NDA would form a coalition government. However, Mr. Palanisamy was yet to answer the doubts raised after Mr. Shah's statement. Mr. Nehru said the party cadre would go door-to-door under the 'Oraniyil Tamil Nadu' campaign to enrol one crore members in the party. They would enrol new members by explaining the achievements of the DMK government and the anti-people actions of BJP government at the centre. On the AIADMK's protest over the delay in opening the new integrated bus terminus in Tiruchi, the Minister said that it had no right to talk about it as it had done nothing to build a new bus stand. The process of identifying a company for operation and maintenance of the new bus terminus was on. A committee that met in Chennai on Monday to take a decision on it had raised some queries. Action had been taken to answer them immediately. The bus terminus would be brought to use within one to two weeks.

Conviction rate improved in the U.T. after three new criminal laws came into effect: Puducherry Chief Minister
The conviction rate has increased in the Union Territory after the three new criminal laws — the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam — came into effect in July last year, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy said here on Tuesday. Participating in a programme organised by the Police department to commemorate the first anniversary of replacing the Indian Penal Code with the three criminal laws, the Chief Minister said out of 654 cases instituted by the courts in Puducherry, 337 had been disposed. As many as 319 cases had resulted in conviction with the overall conviction rate pegged at 95% for the Union Territory against 75% in old criminal laws, he said. 'The new laws have been successfully implemented in Puducherry and the law and order situation has also improved. The police should take all necessary steps to maintain the present status of the Union Territory being a peaceful region,' he said. Home Minister A. Namassivayam in his address said the Police department had recruited 680 personnel to the force after the AINRC-BJP government came to power. Steps were being taken to recruit 200 maritime home guards and fill 74 posts of sub-inspectors, he said. Minister for Law K. Lakshminarayanan said the implementation of any new law would encounter 'teething problems.' However, the criminal laws were an exception as the implementation was smooth. The 'well-crafted laws' were debated properly in the Parliament for almost two years before being passed, he said. Speaker R. Selvam, DMK legislator Anibal Kennedy, Chief Secretary Sharat Chauhan and Director General of Police Shalini Singh were also present.
