Mel kicked off his career with the LA Rams and was with them for nine full years. Can't speak to his specific pay, but the minimum yearly salary for a NFL player is ~$795,000 (and can reach into the high millions), so seems fair to assume Mel was doing juuuuuust fine. ABC has never confirmed what they pay talent, but there's been a lot of information leaked over the years. Amy Kaufman reported in her 2018 book Bachelor Nation that it's "incredibly rare for someone to make less than six figures."
There are also rumors that Bachelor Sean Lowe made $75,000 to $90,000 for his season, while Emily Maynard made history negotiating $250,000 for her season.
Just keep in mind that Sean and Emily's seasons aired over a decade ago in 2012/2013, so you'd think rates have only gone up since then. But...maybe not?
More recently (but still several years ago in 2021), Jason Tartick revealed that he, Colton Underwood, and Blake Horstmann were offered $100,000 to star on The Bachelor. And Dean Unglert revealed that he was offered $75,000.
POINT IS: Chances are Mel will likely be paid somewhere around $100,000 for The Golden Bachelor.
If Mel Owens falls in love and agrees to a televised wedding, ABC will write him yet another check. According to Slate, Ashley Hebert and J.P. Rosenbaum were reportedly paid $250,000 for their wedding in 2012, while Sean Lowe and Catherine Giudici earned six figures for their wedding a few years later in 2014.
While ABC pays their leads, contestants don't earn money on The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, and there's no reason to assume The Golden Bachelor operates differently. As Ashley Iaconetti put it, "You don't get paid as one of the girls on The Bachelor."
In fact, contestants often lose money to be on the show due to having to purchase their own wardrobe, and in some cases taking time off or even quitting their jobs! However, they do get paid to go on Bachelor in Paradise (around $400 to $800 a day), and of course there are the inevitable endorsement deals that start rolling in.
The Golden Bachelor season 2 premieres September 24, 2025 on ABC.

Jalen Milroe has the 2nd fastest speed rating among QB's in Madden 26
One of the key indicators of how close we are to the start of the NFL season is the annual release of the latest entry to the Madden franchise. But before we get our hands on the new game, reveals for player ratings always come first. This year, there is an eye-popping rating that is attached to a Seattle Seahawk... and a rookie, no less! Despite having an rating of only 65 overall (10th out of 13 Seahawks rookies and 7th best at his position among rookies across the league) quarterback Jalen Milroe does stand out in one particular category: Jalen Milroe has a speed rating of 93 overall. To put that in perspective, he trails only Lamar Jackson (96 speed) for fastest in the entire game. I know, this is merely a video game, but it does speak (on some level) as to why Milroe remains such an absurdly fascinating prospect for the Seahawks. His athleticism is off the charts, and it's not unreasonable to use Lamar Jackson as a comp of sorts in this particular aspect of their games. I suspect his speed alone is going to be reason enough for 12's who play Madden 26 to put him on the field when playing against their friends or in franchise mode. Milroe is still a long way out from starting real NFL games, but digitally he can be leading you to a virtual Lombardi with the strength of his legs!
