The Sun5 days ago
KOTA KINABALU: Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has officially announced an electoral pact between GRS and Pakatan Harapan (PH) for the upcoming 17th Sabah State Election.
The Chief Minister stated that the decision followed discussions among GRS component parties, with a consensus reached to collaborate with PH.
Hajiji, who also leads Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat), emphasised that the move aligns with the existing cooperation between the two coalitions in the state government.
'Of course, we are ready, but the electoral pact formula is not yet finalised. There are still a few matters to iron out,' he told reporters after officiating the Gagasan Rakyat Annual General Meeting 2025.
Sabah PH deputy chairman Datuk Mustapha Sakmud welcomed the announcement, calling it 'good news for Sabah.'
He added that the next step involves negotiations on seat allocation, expressing hope for a fair distribution.
When asked about PH's target, Mustapha indicated the coalition is eyeing 23 to 25 seats, pending final discussions.
The 16th Sabah state assembly's term will automatically end on November 11, setting the stage for the upcoming state election. – Bernama

TELUPID: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) aspires to play a key role in consolidating Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) the longest-surviving local party, its secretary-general Datuk Joniston Bangkuai said the party possesses a wealth of experience that will help strengthen the coalition. Support for PBS has also been overwhelming, he said, as it continues to gain traction in memberships with increasing number of party divisions and branches. 'According to reports from all divisional branches, our membership has been growing recently, and new branches are being established. 'This positive development bodes well for our efforts to strengthen GRS under the able leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor. Hajiji urges Sabahans to strengthen unity through shared spaces

KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has urged Sabahans to use shared spaces—schools, workplaces, and digital platforms—to foster unity rather than division. Speaking at the launch of the National Month, Sabah Day, and Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign 2025, he stressed that preserving harmony is a collective responsibility. 'Sabah's strength lies in its unity amid ethnic and religious diversity. This uniqueness should be a source of pride,' Hajiji said. The event was attended by state ministers, federal officials, and agency representatives. He framed the celebrations as a reminder of past sacrifices for independence, which he said extends beyond colonial liberation to overcoming poverty and division. On development, Hajiji noted the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) Plan 1.0 has achieved a 94% implementation rate across 467 initiatives as of May 2025. Priority sectors include agriculture, industry, and tourism, alongside human capital and infrastructure. Public aid programs, such as education access and the Sabah People's Protection Insurance Scheme, were also highlighted. The event concluded with the Sabah-level Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang convoy launch, covering 2,500 km across 27 districts over 20 days. - Bernama

He called on all citizens to continue nurturing the harmony that Sabah enjoys today, describing it as the most valuable legacy for future generations. 'Unity in diversity is Sabah's true strength. It is not a weakness, but a uniqueness we should be proud of and work hard to protect,' he said when officiating the launch of National Day, Sabah Day and the 2025 Flag Waving Campaign at the Magellan Sutera Harbour Resort on Friday. Hajiji reminded all Sabahans that every individual has a role to play in fostering understanding whether in schools, workplaces, business premises, places of worship, or even digital platforms rather than promoting division. Touching on development progress, he highlighted the positive achievements under the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) 1.0 Roadmap, which as of May 2025, recorded an encouraging 94 percent implementation rate across 467 planned initiatives. 'Key sectors that continue to receive focus include agriculture, industry and tourism, along with human capital development, people's welfare, infrastructure enhancement, and environmental sustainability,' he said. The Chief Minister also noted various forms of assistance introduced for the people, including improved access to education and the launch of the Sabah People's Protection Insurance Scheme, which provides comprehensive benefits for citizens. He called on the public to fly the Jalur Gemilang proudly across the state as a symbol of patriotism and national pride. 'Today's launch is more than a symbolic event. It is a reminder of the deeper meaning of independence, not just freedom from colonisation, but also from poverty and disunity,' Hajiji said. He added that the annual National Day and Sabah Day celebrations every August are important reminders of the sacrifices made by forefathers in defending the homeland and upholding the nation's dignity. 'As Malaysians in Sabah, we have a great responsibility to preserve the blessings of independence and continue this legacy of struggle,' he said. The event concluded with the handing over of flags to state and federal government departments and agencies, representatives of various associations, and the launch of the Merdeka Jalur Gemilang Expedition.
