Kaizer Chiefs vs Orlando Pirates: Preview & Prediction

The latest edition of the Soweto derby is around the corner for Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.
Soweto will be split into black and white (Orlando Pirates) and gold and black (Kaizer Chiefs) as families across South Africa prepare for the eagerly anticipated latest chapter of this storied rivalry.
The biggest game in South African football – The Soweto derby. History, tradition and bragging rights are all at stake when these two historical giants clash to conquer Soweto.
Last time these two teams met, it ended in jubilation for Pirates and heartbreak for Amakhosi.
Pirates were awarded a controversial injury time winner which resulted in a 1-0 victory for the Bucs. You can bet that not a single Amakhosi supporter or player has forgotten this moment.
Since then, the two sides have had contrasting seasons. Pirates sit second in the latest BetWay Premiership standings. Meanwhile, Chiefs are in eightgh position. Meanwhile, Pirates reached the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League before losing 3-2 to Pyramids FC in the second leg. So, close yet so far. Fresh off of their CAFCL heartbreak, Pirates sail in search of redemption. The same redemption Chiefs are after following their Soweto derby heartbreak where many felt they were robbed by the Sea Robbers.
This is just the beginning of the story. This will be Jose Riveiro's last Soweto derby in the PSL. Meanwhile, Nasreddine Nabi's career hangs on a thread. This thread could snap if they don't win either of the derbies but could be woven more tightly with victory.
Beyond their coaches careers and reputations and recent heartbreak, there is Soweto derby bragging rights and three points to play for. Chiefs need to stay in the top eight. Meanwhile, Pirates will want to seal second spot to secure safe passage into the CAFCL next season.
Finally, winning the derby grants respective fans bragging rights until the next one.
There is no dount that Pirates are the clear favourites based on form alone. They have had an excellent season under Riveiro. Meanwhile, Chiefs are struggling under Nasreddine Nabi.
However, form is thrown out the window when it comes to the Soweto derby. All the players rise and step up to the occasion. After all, all these players dreamt of playing in the Soweto derby. This is a dream shared by millions of young SA boys.
PREDICTION: Both sides will be up for this one. I sense a 1-1 draw after an intense and grueling 90 minutes in Soweto.

Kaizer Chiefs bit by the Billiat curse in transfer move?

Kaizer Chiefs have uncharacteristically moved away from the prospect of signing free agent Percy Tau, and former signing Khama Billiat may be the reason why. 'The team feels that apparently, they believe they have learnt a lesson from the signing of Khama Billiat and Keagan Dolly,' an inside source explained. 'They paid a lot of money, but the club believes those returns were not worthy of it. So that's why they are looking at other forward players apart from Percy Tau. So, for now, he is not one of the targets. But in football, you never know what will happen in future. But not now.' AmaKhosi were eager to sign the Bafana Bafana icon a few months ago but were unable to land him after it became clear he wanted to leave Egyptian giants Al Ahly. It seems they are counting their blessings as they turn their attention to rising and in-form stars. While Tau is no longer on their list, Kaizer Chiefs are still on the hunt for experienced stars, including Oswin Appollis and Feisal Salum, both of which are reportedly close to joining the Soweto giants. Several players are expected to arrive during the offseason, otherwise they risk losing Nasreddine Nabi. 'I wouldn't be honest if say that I'm going to stay if the club doesn't allow me to get all the tools to succeed next season because they have promised, and myself, I have promised the fans that I want to build a successful team that will compete in every competition to win trophies,' he said.' 'That's the condition for me to stay [at Chiefs] because I don't feel that I want to go through what I went through this season.' Ex-Kaizer Chiefs star names Amakhosi player who can sort their defence

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Mokete Tsotetsi feels Amakhosi have a good defender who can solve their troubles at the back. Last season, Chiefs leaked the third most goals in the Betway Premiership under Nasreddine Nabi. The team finished ninth in the league despite winning the Nedbank Cup. Speaking to Soccer Laduma , Tsotsetsi backed Nabi to play Given Msimango. The 28-year-old only featured 10 times last season. 'To be honest, I think Msimango didn't get enough chances this past season. For me, he is a natural defender and I believe he still has so much to offer the team,' Tsotetsi said. 'He can still solve the problem that Chiefs have at the back, but he has to be given enough opportunities to gain his confidence again. He has done it before and he can do it again. I think he still has a lot to offer Chiefs. If given a chance again, I think he can add value to the team,' the former Chiefs star told Soccer Laduma . With two years left in his contract, Msimango has plenty of time to prove himself to Nabi and his technical team. Last season, he was mostly a forgotten figure, but suspension and injuries to key Amakhosi defenders forced the Kaizer Chiefs coach to field the lanky defender.
