BJP slams TG govt for ‘failure' to utilise central funds
Addressing the media on Saturday, Sarangula said, 'The Centre has been proactive in releasing funds to Telangana, but the incompetent Congress government is failing to utilize them. Instead of blaming the Modi government every day, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy should reflect on his government's shortcomings.' He pointed out that Rs. 2,016 crore under various central schemes remained unutilized in the state government's bank accounts, as revealed in the recent CAG quarterly report.
The BJP leader criticized the state's management of public finances and asserted that, due to a lack of reforms and administrative inefficiency, Telangana had missed out on significant financial opportunities. 'Around Rs. 40,000 crore is being missed out because of the state's inability to implement citizen-centric reforms,' he noted, adding that this included Rs. 5,000 crore annually due to unimplemented power sector reforms. Delay in conducting Gram Panchayat elections had caused a loss of Rs. 1,500 crore in Finance Commission grants, he stated.
Sarangula revealed that between 2020-21 and February 2025, the Centre released an impressive Rs. 78,859.87 crore to Telangana, yet large amounts remained idle each year. 'The Congress government's poor financial management had led to a loss of Rs. 7,857 crore in borrowing capacity and Rs. 5,000 crore in matching grants for central schemes,' he said.
Criticizing the outgo for Hyderabad Metro Phase-2, Sarangula highlighted that the estimated cost of Rs. 24,269 crore (Rs. 318 crore per km) was 30% higher than that of similar projects elsewhere. He called for clarity and transparency from the state.
Citing further inefficiencies, he pointed to under-utilization in key welfare schemes such as Minority Welfare, tuition fee reimbursement, and the 'Shaadi Mubarak' scheme. 'A double-engine government is the need of the hour to ensure Telangana's growth and optimal use of central funds,' Sarangula commented.

Trump says Epstein 'stole' young women from Mar-a-Lago spa, including Virginia Giuffre
U.S. President Donald Trump said Tuesday (July 29, 2025) that Jeffrey Epstein 'stole' young women who worked for the spa at Mar-a-Lago, the latest evolution in his description of how their highly scrutinized relationship ended years ago. One of the women, he acknowledged, was Virginia Giuffre, who was among Epstein's most well-known sex trafficking accusers. Mr. Trump's comments expanded on remarks he had made a day earlier, when he said he had banned Epstein from his private club in Florida two decades ago because his one-time friend 'stole people that worked for me.' At the time, he did not make clear who those workers were. The Republican president has faced an outcry over his administration's refusal to release more records about Epstein after promises of transparency, a rare example of strain within Trump's tightly controlled political coalition. Mr. Trump has attempted to tamp down questions about the case, expressing annoyance that people are still talking about it six years after Epstein committed suicide while awaiting trial, even though some of his own allies have promoted conspiracy theories about it. Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein's imprisoned former girlfriend, was recently interviewed inside a Florida courthouse by the Justice Department's No. 2 official, though officials have not publicly disclosed what she said. Her lawyers said Tuesday that she's willing to answer more questions from Congress if she is granted immunity from future prosecution for her testimony. Aboard Air Force One while returning from Scotland, Mr. Trump said he was upset that Epstein was 'taking people who worked for me.' The women, he said, were 'taken out of the spa, hired by him — in other words, gone.' 'I said, listen, we don't want you taking our people,' Trump said. When it happened again, Trump said he banned Epstein from Mar-a-Lago. Asked if Giuffre was one of the employees poached by Epstein, he demurred but then said 'he stole her.' The White House originally said Mr. Trump banned Epstein from Mar-a-Lago because he was acting like a 'creep.' Giuffre died by suicide earlier this year. She claimed that Maxwell spotted her working as a spa attendant at Mar-a-Lago in 2000, when she was a teenager, and hired her as Epstein's masseuse, which led to sexual abuse. Editorial | Republican rumblings: on Trump and the Epstein files Although Giuffre's allegations did not become part of criminal prosecutions against Epstein, she is central to conspiracy theories about the case. She accused Epstein of pressuring her into having sex with powerful men. Maxwell, who has denied Giuffre's allegations, is serving a 20-year-prison sentence in a Florida federal prison for conspiring with Epstein to sexually abuse underage girls. A spokeswoman for the House Oversight Committee, which requested the interview with Maxwell, said the panel would not consider granting the immunity she requested. The potential interview is part of a frenzied, renewed interest in the Epstein saga following the Justice Department's July statement that it would not be releasing any additional records from the investigation, an abrupt announcement that stunned online sleuths, conspiracy theorists and elements of Trump's political base who had been hoping to find proof of a government coverup. Since then, the Trump administration has sought to present itself as promoting transparency, with the department urging courts to unseal grand jury transcripts from the sex-trafficking investigation and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche interviewing Maxwell over the course of two days at a Florida courthouse last week. In a letter Tuesday, Maxwell's attorneys said that though their initial instinct was for Maxwell to invoke her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination, they are open to having her cooperate provided that lawmakers satisfy their request for immunity and other conditions. But the Oversight Committee seemed to reject that offer outright. 'The Oversight Committee will respond to Ms. Maxwell's attorney soon, but it will not consider granting congressional immunity for her testimony," a spokesperson said. Separately, Maxwell's attorneys have urged the Supreme Court to review her conviction, saying she dd not receive a fair trial. They also say that one way she would testify 'openly and honestly, in public,' is in the event of a pardon by Mr. Trump, who has told reporters that such a move is within his rights but that he has not been not asked to make it. 'She welcomes the opportunity to share the truth and to dispel the many misconceptions and misstatements that have plagued this case from the beginning,' they said.

Ganapati makhar makers struggle to meet last-minute demand from homes, housing societies this year
1 2 Pune: The delayed approval for PoP Ganesh idols has not only sparked last-minute demand for such idols but also rushed decorators, who did not prepare decoration setups in advance, anticipating less demand this year. Based on the size of idols, makhars and backdrops are specially customised for homes and housing societies. "Vendors are busy creating makhars for large Ganapati idols. We found a vendor to create a small 3D temple for our home idol after much difficulty. They are saying deliveries might be delayed to around Aug 25," said Jyotsana Nadkarni, a resident of Kothrud. "We contacted our decorator a day after we placed an order for our Ganesh idol. This year, the idols are about 10-15% more expensive than last year owing to the last-minute demand," said Harsha Kamble, a resident of Hadapsar. Customers are demanding eco-friendly makhars and backdrops, said vendors. "We had hardly any orders at the beginning of June, so we just prepared a few basic makhars. Bookings started pouring in at the end of June, and now we are facing high raw material and labour costs. We hope we can make deliveries on time," said a decorator at Sadashiv Peth. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Best SIP Plans for NRIs in Romania – Get ₹2L Monthly Pension | Invest ₹18K PB Learn More Undo You Can Also Check: Pune AQI | Weather in Pune | Bank Holidays in Pune | Public Holidays in Pune Vinayak Makhar, who has his workshop in Mumbai but caters to customers from Pune, Thane, and other regions, said 70-80% of the makhars are hand-painted. "We used to pay labour charges of about Rs 700-800 a day until last year. This year, because there is so much demand, we are paying labour charges of Rs 1,200 per day. We are using foam boards and sun boards to create 2D and 3D makhars," he said. Demand for decorations has also gone up by about 10-15% over last year. Shyam Kandalkar, owner, Omkar Arts, Chinchwad, said LED models of Ganapati asans are trending this year. "Customers who usually bring home idols of the same size now prefer to buy reusable décor. The demand is definitely higher by 10-15% over last year. We are using a lot of hitlon sheets in our décor," he said. Vendors also said PoP idols are lighter than shadu clay idols, so customers are confused about the decorative stands that they should purchase. "We submerge the idol along with an eco-friendly stand, so did not place the order for the makhar until the idol was finalised," said a secretary of a housing society in Pashan who did not wish to be named.
