Ed Sheeran Has Finally Confirmed What He Was Singing About On Taylor Swift's 2017 Song 'End Game'

Any Swiftie would know that Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran are not just incredibly close friends, they are also longtime collaborators who have delivered us more than a few bops over the years.
There is 'Everything Has Changed' from Taylor's 2012 album, Red, their 'The Joker And The Queen' collab that was released in 2022, and, of course, 'End Game,' which also features the rapper Future and was released on Taylor's 2017 album, Reputation, to name a few.

'End Game' is perhaps one of Taylor's most surprising songs stylistically, as it incorporates elements of pop rap and R&B, with the lyrics about falling in love with somebody despite one another's perceived reputations.
In Ed's verse, he sings: 'I've made mistakes, and made some choices that's hard to deny / After the storm, something was born on the Fourth of July / I've passed days without fun, this endgame is the one / With four words on the tip of my tongue I'll never say.'

And last week, a TikToker made a video to Ed's lyrics as they questioned what the 'four words' mentioned were.
'What are the four words on the top of Ed Sheeran's tongue that he will never say,' the social media user captioned the video.
And lo and behold, Ed himself popped up in the comments to set the record straight once and for all.

Perhaps unsurprisingly to many, Ed confirmed that the 'four words' were 'will you marry me,' but he also clarified that the second half of that lyric is actually supposed to lead into Taylor's part that comes immediately after, where she sings: 'I don't wanna touch you.'
'The 'il never say' leads in to the next bit. As in - il never say 'I don't wanna touch you,'' Ed's comment begins. 'And the four words are 'will you marry me' which obvz happened with chez shortly after this song came out.'
In case you didn't know, Chez is Ed's now-wife Cherry Seaborn, who he proposed to in December 2017. The two actually first met as schoolkids and were childhood friends before drifting apart in adulthood.

They ended up reuniting in 2015, when Ed was on tour and Cherry was working in Manhattan. However, they didn't officially start dating until Ed took Cherry to one of Taylor's infamous Fourth of July parties at her Rhode Island home later that same year.
"I was texting [Cherry], and she was like: 'I'm in Rhode Island at a 4th of July party,' and I was like' 'So am I,'" Ed previously told People, "I kinda said to Taylor: 'Can I invite one of my old schoolmates?' The rest is history."
And suddenly, Ed's 'End Game' lyric: 'Something was born on the Fourth of July' all makes sense, with his and Cherry's romance also referenced earlier in the verse, where Ed sings: 'Knew her when I was young / Reconnected when we were a little bit older.'
Taylor later surprised Ed and Cherry by marking their first anniversary at her 2016 Fourth of July party, and the happy couple ended up getting married in 2019 before welcoming two daughters together.
