SANDAKAN: A 50-year-old illegal immigrant was jailed three years for being a middle person in prostitution activity. Sessions Court Judge Zaini Fishir @ Fisal meted out the sentence to Indonesian Lely Fiter, who pleaded guilty to the charge against her on Tuesday.
Advertisement Lely had become the middle person for a woman for prostitution purposes at an apartment unit in Batu 5, here, July 29 this year. The court ordered Lely to serve the jail sentence from the date of her arrest and referred to the Immigration Department for deportation. In a related case, a 26-year-old woman was fined RM1,800 or three months' jail for offering sex service for RM150 per session. Zuraini Mohd Zaini pleaded guilty before Magistrate Nur Faezah Jafry, to soliciting for the purpose of prostitution at the same place and time as Lely.
Advertisement The court heard that at about 3.30pm, a team of police officers from the D7 Division of the Sandakan District Police Headquarters had raided the house and found the woman in the act of providing sexual services. During the raid, the police also seized an opened packet of branded condoms, one used condom, a roll of used tissue, a mobile phone and RM150 in cash. Investigation revealed that each service was paid RM150 and the amount would be divided, RM100 Zuraini and RM50 for Lely who acted as the middle person in finding clients for the activity. Zuraini admitted to committing the act due to financial hardship. Johor Immigration detains 27 foreign workers
JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian Immigration Department detained 27 foreign workers without valid permits in Op Selera at a food premises in Bandar Baru Permas Jaya here on Monday. Johor Immigration director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said the integrated operation, involving 25 officers from the department's enforcement division, was conducted as a result of intelligence and public information regarding their activities at the premises. He said the arrests involved eight Indonesian men and eight women, five Myanmar men and six women aged between 18 and 50. "All of them are suspected of committing offences under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Immigration Regulations 1963 as well as Regulation 11(7)(a) of the Immigration Regulations 1963. "Meanwhile, a local man who is the owner of the premises was also detained under Section 56(1)(d) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for harbouring foreigners," he said in a statement tonight. Mohd Rusdi said all the detainees were placed at the Setia Tropika Immigration Depot for investigation and further action, in addition to being issued three notices to appear at the Immigration Department to assist in the ongoing investigation. "At the same time, we would like to remind the public and employers not to harbour or employ illegal immigrants to work as legal action would be taken against them. "Therefore, employers are advised to contact the nearest immigration office directly to obtain accurate (and authentic) information if there is a party claiming to be able to manage foreign workers," he added. – Bernama

Johor immigration detains 27 foreign workers in ops

Those arrested included eight Indonesian men, eight Indonesian women, five Myanmar men, and six Myanmar women aged 18 to 50. All detainees are suspected of violating Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63. A local man, the premises owner, was also detained under Section 56(1)(d) for harbouring foreigners. Mohd Rusdi confirmed the detainees were taken to Setia Tropika Immigration Depot for investigation. He warned the public and employers against hiring or sheltering illegal immigrants. Stop sharing images, unverified info in Zara Qairina case: AGC

According to the AGC, the circulation of unverified information and images related to the student, which are connected to the ongoing investigation by the authorities, could lead to public confusion. Advertisement It also urged the public to immediately cease such irresponsible actions. 'The dissemination of such content could potentially disrupt the smooth and effective progress of the investigation by the relevant authorities,' it said in a statement. The AGC also noted that it received the full preliminary investigation report on the case at its Sabah branch on Aug 3, and at its headquarters in Putrajaya on Aug 4. Zara Qairina, 13, was pronounced dead at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, on July 17.
