Outlander fans must watch this hearbreaking Netflix film with Game of Thrones star
With a long time to wait before Outlander season 8, many fans are desperate for something to fill the void. Luckily, Netflix is streaming a movie that's filled with plenty of romance and drama, as well as time travel.
The movie came out in 2009 and follows an epic love story to rival Outlander's central romance with Jamie and Claire Fraser.
One fan critiqued IMDb: "At the heart of this film is a love story and the complexities that people bring to their relationships.
'What I liked most was its metaphorical allusion to the distance in relationships and how the important people in our lives stay with us even after they are gone."
A second wrote: "I was a massive fan of the book and had been following the production of this movie for a long time anticipating the release date. I had set my expectations pretty low so as to not be disappointed and decided to just enjoy the film for what it was.
"I was overjoyed by how true to the book the film stayed, only varying in a few unimportant places, the film dared to be as heart breaking and sad as the book and did not feel the need to justify the logistics of the time travel instead choosing to summarise it in the first scene sic].'
A third penned: "I recommend anyone looking for a unique love story to see this film. Paying homage to memorable classic such as; "Somewhere in Time" and "It's a Wonderful Life,"it will easily be something that should find a home in your living room shelves.
"It emits a cinematic glow that hasn't been seen in years while cleverly conveying an educational message; 'Never let go of the one you love, and cherish him/her always'."
The Time Traveler's Wife follows Chicago librarian Henry DeTamble (Eric Bana), who possessed the genetic ability allowing him to time travel.
However, he wasn't in control of his power, which proved a problem for his wife Clare Abshire (Rachel McAdams). Henry disappear and randomly appear at different points in Clare's life.
The movie took its cue from the beloved 2003 romantic novel of the same name by Audrey Niffenegger.
Band of Brothers and Sex And The City star Ron Livingston and Arliss Howard of Full Metal Jacket fame also featured in the film.
The Time Traveler's Wife went on to get the small screen treatment by HBO in 2022, penned by former Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat.
The TV series, starring The Gentlemen's Theo James and Game of Thrones and The Good Fight's Rose Leslie, was sadly cancelled after one season.
Despite a passionate campaign to save the show, The Time Traveler's Wife didn't get a renewal.
There's been a subsequent stage musical adapted from the book.

The casting call stipulates that, in order to be considered for a background part, women must be 'beautiful' and wear a dress size from size six to ten only. The call reads: "We are looking for beautiful extras, with a lean physique and size from 38 to 42." It comes after one huge TV star looks completely unrecognisable as she reveals latest facelift. 'Well-groomed, dry body, attractive' is also bluntly listed as criterion, and men must be size 46–52, and while 'all ages' will be considered, they must adhere to the physical requirements in order to be in with a chance of landing a role in the background. What's more, fans only have until midnight on 20 August to apply. Away from the cameras, Lily, welcomed Tove, six months, with Charlie McDonnell and her co-star Lucien Laviscount, recently admitted she's juggling motherhood with her leading-lady duties like a total pro as filming ramps up on the new season. Where Is Love Is Blind UK Filmed?
Love Is Blind UK is back for a second season, as a new group of singletons hope to find love on the show. In season two of Netflix's unconventional dating experiment, which is available now to stream, contestants take a less conventional approach to modern dating by choosing someone to marry without ever meeting them face to face, until they commit to each other with an engagement. They then move in together to plan their wedding as they find out if their physical connection is as strong as the emotional bonds they developed in the pods. The Love Is Blind pods ©Netflix Filming for the series, which is hosted by Emma and Matt Willis, takes place across Europe. We take a look at the filming locations… Before they see each other irl, the potential partners get to know each other via dates in the pods over ten days. The pod scenes for both series one and two were not filmed in the UK, but in Stockholm, Sweden, reusing the set from the Swedish version of the Love Is Blind franchise. 'The pods could literally be in any country, in any city, in any place in the world. The pods aren't about place. The pods are about an experience,' creator Chris Coelen said. 'People love the pods. There are real, intense, incredible love stories that unfold in really fascinating ways in the pods. There are unbelievable love triangles. We now embrace the fact that it's incredibly emotional, dramatic, messy and aspirational.' It's just you and the other person,' Chris explained. He said that some people have even fallen asleep in the pods in other shows, so they could stay close to their match. 'People would say, 'I love to fall asleep in the pod with the person I'm talking to.' They wanted to spend as much time as they possibly could just talking to that person.' In season one, the newly engaged couples jetted off to Corfu, Greece, where they enjoyed a week-long retreat at the five-star luxury Angsana Corfu Resort and Spa. This year, the pairs went to Cyprus for their week-long post-pod retreat. Last year, after their engagement-moon, the pairs in season one lived with each other at STAY in their two and three-bedroom serviced apartments in Camden, London. We'll have to wait and see where the couples stay in the new series. The wedding in last year's series took place at Wynyard Hall in Stockton-on-Tees in County Durham, described as 'a stunningly beautiful 18th century, grade II listed country house' nestled within a private 400 acre estate. As the next batch of episodes drop, we'll have to wait and see if the ceremonies in season two will take place at the same venue.
