Smurfs Day 1 India Box Office: Paramount's animated flick voiced by Rihanna takes a tepid Rs 40 lakh net start

Pink Villa19-07-2025
Smurfs, directed by Chris Miller, and voiced by Rihanna, James Corden, John Goodman and others, opened to low numbers at the India box office. The film managed to collect only Rs 40 lakh net on its first day and the long term prospects of the film also seem bleak too, as the initial word of mouth is unfavourable.
Smurfs Used To Once Be A Very Big Box Office Franchise
Smurfs, as a franchise, is past its prime. In its hay days, its film The Smurfs (2011) managed to gross around USD 570 million globally. Everything looked great for the franchise in terms of anticipation and excitement. The Smurfs 2 (2013) was also a bonafied blockbuster, grossing little under USD 400 million globally. The major downturn came with Smurfs: The Lost Village (2017), which although emerged a hit at the box office, grossed half of what its predicessor did. This should have been a red signal for the makers of Smurfs, to be cautious about what they put out next.
Smurfs Looks To Gross Less Than The Underperforming Smurfs: The Lost Village Worldwide
The new Smurfs movie looks to be doing significantly less than The Lost Village did. The promotions of the film were low key, suggesting that the makers were perhaps underconfident about their movie. Also, with Pixar's Elio sealing a disastrous fate despite positive reviews, the makers of Smurfs must've thought it would be best to not go all out with the marketing.
Smurfs Shall Observe Slight Growth In India On Saturday
Smurfs shall see a slight growth on Saturday in India. The growth on Saturday is customary for all films, regardless of the word of mouth. In its lifetime, the animated film shall be lucky to be doing Rs 3 crore net.
Paramount shall be observing the box office performance very closely. The dull initials should be a wake up call for the makers. They either need to rebrand the franchise or try mixing it up with the other animated franchises for better long term prospects.

Filmmaker turns Rapido captain, heart-warming story of resilience goes viral: ‘The stubbornness of success'

Ratnam E M Kalra, a content creator known for his compelling storytelling videos, recently shared an inspiring story revolving around Viraj Srivastav, a former assistant director who now works as a Rapido captain. After losing his father, Srivastav made the difficult decision to leave his home and mother behind to make a name for himself. But the journey was far from easy, as he had his own share of hardships his way. 'Main aadhi duniya ghum chuka hun, mera passport triple hai par kismat kab kahan le jaaye (I have travelled half of the world. My three passports ran out of pages, but you never know what destiny has planned for you),' Srivastav says in a viral video shared by Kalra. Now a Rapido captain, Srivastav couldn't complete his studies due to financial problems following his father's demise. 'Main bahut roya maa ko miss kar ke par waapis jaane ka tareeka nhi pata tha (I cried buckets as I missed my mother, but I couldn't return to her),' he adds. As the video progresses, Kalra says that Srivastav was his Rapido captain. Srivastav revealed that he had worked as an assistant director in Zee TV's popular daily soap Qubool Hai, starring Surbhi Jyoti and Karan Singh Grover. His first salary was around Rs 2,250, and he further received an offer from a TV production house. Sharing his musical skills, Srivastav reveals that he is proficient in drums, congo, ukulele, and is trained in thumri, a semi-classical vocal form in Hindustani music. 'Marne se phle jo meri iccha hai na, wo karke rahunga, kursi pe baith kr rahunga. Roll, Camera, Action, bol kar rahunga (I'll anyhow achieve my dream of becoming a director. Before dying, I'll sit on the director's chair and say roll, camera, action),' Srivastav says. Kalra, who shared the Instagram reel, wrote, 'It turned out to be such a special coincidence because I was his first ever Rapido ride. He was just trying it out as a part-time thing to earn an extra buck on the side. But he was special, stubborn, stern and so so talented.' Watch here: A post shared by Ratnam E M Kalra (@ratnamemkalra) The video resonated with several social media users, amassing over a million views. 'tu matt pahuncha, main pahunchuga (you don't reach me, I'll reach there),' content creator-actor Kusha Kapila commented. 'This reminds me of that scene in tamasha jab ved talks to that rickshaw driver. 'Wat wat wat wat',' another user wrote. 'The stubbornness for success is what makes the difference,' a third user reacted.

‘Saiyaara' Box Office collection day 11 (Live): Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda's romantic drama directed by Mohit Suri nears Rs 250 crore mark in India; eyes Rs 300 crore next

Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda have made a powerful debut with their romantic drama 'Saiyaara'. Directed by Mohit Suri , the film is not just winning hearts but also smashing box office records. After a strong second weekend, 'Saiyaara' has neared the Rs 250 crore mark and now aims to hit the Rs 275–300 crore range in the coming days. Saiyaara Movie Review A good second week run The film showed no signs of slowing down in its second week. According to early estimates from Sacnilk, so far 'Saiyaara' earned Rs 1.96 crore on its second Monday (Day 11), taking the total collection to Rs 249.21 crore. The movie is now just a step away from officially entering the Rs 250 crore club. The second weekend was impressive with Saturday and Sunday collections pushing the film closer to the Rs 300 crore mark. The buzz around the film continues to grow, especially among young audiences. One of the biggest highlights of 'Saiyaara's' journey is that the film did not drop below double-digit earnings for the first 10 days, and the film stayed strong with consistent collections. Weekdays could bring a dip in numbers Now, as the film enters its second week, the weekdays could bring some dip in numbers, as usually happens. But if the fall is not too much, the film might smoothly sail past the Rs 275 crore mark and possibly Rs 300 crore soon. Day wise Box Office collection Day 1 (Friday): Rs 21.5 crore Day 2 (Saturday): Rs 26 crore Day 3 (Sunday): Rs 35.75 crore Day 4 (Monday): Rs 24 crore Day 5 (Tuesday): Rs 25 crore Day 6 (Wednesday): Rs 21.5 crore Day 7 (Thursday): Rs 19 crore Week 1 Total: Rs 172.75 crore Day 8 (Friday): Rs 18 crore Day 9 (Saturday): Rs 26.5 crore Day 10 (Sunday): Rs 31.18 crore Day 11 (Monday): Rs 1.96 crore (till 2.05pm) by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Brain tumor has left my son feeling miserable; please help! The film has done better than big releases like 'Dunki', which marked the return of Shah Rukh Khan with Rajkumar Hirani, and 'Singham Again', which brought back the Ajay Devgn–Rohit Shetty pair. 'Saiyaara' has also passed popular films like 'Drishyam 2' (Rs 239.67 crore), 'The Kerala Story' (Rs 239.05 crore), and 'Krrish 3' (Rs 231.79 crore). It is now just above the collections of 'URI: The Surgical Strike' (Rs 244.14 crore), which was called an all time Blockbuster. 'Saiyaara' film review The Times of India gave 'Saiyaara' 3 stars and praised the film's emotional moments. The review said, 'Suri gets the emotional core just right, but the film's uneven pacing intermittently slows things down and often rushes through pivotal turns. Moments of raw emotion do land, though a slightly rushed climax leaves much to be desired.' Ahaan Panday's performance has been getting a lot of attention. The review added, 'Ahaan Panday makes a smashing debut, capturing both the rough-edged swagger of a star-in-the-making and the vulnerability demanded later on. His prowess is on display in the finale as he revisits an earlier scene—channelling Virat 'King' Kohli—transforming the raw passion of the first half into pure emotion later.' Can 'Saiyaara' touch Rs 300 crore? Looking at the current trend, 'Saiyaara' seems all set to cross the Rs 250 crore mark officially by the end of Day 11. If it keeps performing well, the film could even become the second Hindi film of the year to enter the Rs 300 crore club. Tough competition ahead? The next big challenge for 'Saiyaara' will come on 1st August, when two new films, 'Dhadak 2' and 'Son of Sardaar', are set to release. This may affect the film's momentum, but with the love it's receiving from viewers, 'Saiyaara' still has a good chance to keep going strong.
