Ellen DeGeneres would 'love' UK talk show as she moves on from bullying scandal
The American comedian, 67, moved to Britain with her wife, Portia de Rossi, 52, in November last year, deciding to set up a new life here after Donald Trump was re-elected.
While she tends to keep a low profile these days, this weekend, Ellen made her first public appearance since relocating, joining a conversation with Richard Bacon at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham.
She reflected on the bullying scandal that rocked her hit talk show in the States, ultimately leading to a decline in popularity and its full cancellation in 2022.
After fronting over 3,000 episodes, Ellen hosted her final episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show in May of that year, having been engulfed by accusations of a toxic workplace and at the centre of a wider investigation.
Despite it leading to a decline in viewership, Ellen has remained defiant in the face of the allegations, now saying she'd jump at the chance to replicate some success in the UK.
But while she misses her old chat show 'a lot', she isn't sure its format would work anymore, as she explained tonight in quotes obtained by BBC.
'I mean, I wish it did, because I would do the same thing here. I would love to do that again,' she admitted. 'But I just feel like people are watching on their phones, or people aren't really paying attention as much to televisions, because we're so inundated with information and entertainment.'
Ellen confessed to having no plans for what she wants to do next, but she'll be planning her future career moves 'very carefully'.
'I just don't know what that is yet,' she stated, declaring that she does want to have 'fun' after growing 'bored' in recent months, now that she's not in front of the bright lights and cameras.
Ellen, who now lives in a sprawling Cotswolds mansion, previously spoke about being 'cancelled' by the internet when she was accused of being 'mean' to staff behind the scenes.
She once called the accusations of toxicity behind the cameras of her show 'orchestrated' and 'misogynistic', later telling her 2024 tour crowd that she struggled with knowing how to confront the matter.

'No matter what, any article that came up, it was like, 'She's mean,' and it's like, how do I deal with this without sounding like a victim or 'poor me' or complaining? But I wanted to address it,' she said in the accompanying Netflix stand-up special.
'It's as simple as I'm a direct person, and I'm very blunt, and I guess sometimes that means that… I'm mean?'
The accusations against Ellen and her talk show gained widespread media attention when the complainants came forward in 2020. The host was said to have enabled not only the 'toxic' atmosphere but also 'racism, fear, and intimidation'.
Furthermore, Ellen was accused of failing to address higher-ups sexually harassing female employees and directing 'racist micro-aggressions and abuse' towards employees of colour. Other accusations included staff members being fired for taking medical and bereavement leave.
After the internal probe into the show's culture, three producers were sacked for alleged misconduct, with Ellen giving an on-air apology in her final show opening.
Ellen, who had also vowed to retreat from showbiz for good after fulfilling her contractual commitments, now admits that life is 'just better' in the UK, having splashed out on a blissful 43-acre property in the countryside.
Speaking tonight about her big move, she revealed she and former actress wife Portia, whom she wed in 2008, originally wanted it to be a 'part-time house'.
They had planned to spend three or four months a year in the UK, but she now confirms it's true that the last US election swayed her decision. More Trending
'We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, 'He got in',' she recalled.
'And we're like, 'We're staying here'.'
Ellen and Portia—who was present in the audience along with several other family members and celebs when Ellen's show ended—first met at a party in 2000.
In their first joint interview in 2009, Portia confessed to Oprah Winfrey that she knew she loved Ellen the moment she laid eyes on her.

It's WWE SummerSlam weekend, but there's still one more fork in the road before we get to the biggest party of the summer. WWE SmackDown this evening will bring John Cena and Cody Rhodes face to face, while the Women's United States Championship and AAA Tag Team Titles are on the line. Here's your preview for this evening's episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown, its UK start time and how to tune into the SummerSlam Kick-Off show. So, we've finally arrived; another one of the WWE's 'Big Four' Premium Live Events is set to take place over this weekend, as WWE SummerSlam rolls into New Jersey for a weekend of firsts. Of course, the fact that this year's biggest party of the summer is taking place for the first time in its history at the MetLife Stadium is one of the huge firsts that is taking place, so too is the fact that this will be the first SummerSlam to be screened live on Netflix since the company started working together earlier this year. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Our attention can't help but focus, though, on one man this weekend: John Cena. As the countdown to his retirement continues, it's a bittersweet feeling to see the record-setting WWE Undisputed Champion at his final event, having made his debut at SummerSlam in 2004 against Hall-of-Famer Kurt Angle. Some of us hope that perhaps a rare double-turn could take place at this weekend's show, as John Cena and Cody Rhodes engage in a street fight on Sunday evening to close out this year's event. Are we about to see John Cena recognise the past year that his anger towards some fans has been perhaps extreme, and could Cody Rhodes do something unthinkable, leading to a change in cheers and boos for the pair? Perhaps tonight's WWE SmackDown, when the pair face each other before their epic WWE Undisputed Championship encounter, could give us some clues? Here's your preview for this evening's episode, the UK start time, and how to avoid missing any SummerSlam coverage as the WWE's Kick-Off show also takes place this evening. Mat told the audience how all the cast and crew had become ''like a family'' working together on the show over 17 years and how his TV mum Alison Steadman who plays Pamela had become 'a surrogate mum'. He added: "In 2019 before the Christmas special - part one of the finale if you like - aired, I lost my mother and Alison really stepped up and she became my surrogate mother off screen as well. Netflix fans go wild for cult ITV drama set in stunning Scots location
Viewers said they had been enthralled by the murder mystery and loved the Scottish scenery in the show 'HAD ME HOOKED' Netflix fans go wild for cult ITV drama set in stunning Scots location Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) AN EIGHT-year-old Scottish crime drama, which ran for just one series, has stormed to the top of the Netflix most-watched charts. The Loch was originally aired on ITV in 2017 and met with a mixed response from viewers and critics. Now renamed Loch Ness, the six-part series is set in a Highland village near the famous body of water and focuses on the hunt for a serial killer. Scottish actress Laura Fraser, who starred in Breaking Bad, and Happy Valley star Siobhan Finneran play the two detectives who are leading the investigation. Viewers said they had been enthralled by the murder mystery and loved the Scottish scenery in the show. One fan wrote on social media: "Just watched The Loch (Loch Ness in the USA), I'm several years too late as it came out in 2017 but what a fantastic crime drama and had me hooked. "Found it on Netflix. Highly recommended (also loved the locations, brings back memories of my visit to the loch back in 2014!)." The beautiful Scottish scenery gives it such a nice feel, and I can bet that you'll never figure out who the killer is till the last episode User on X Another viewer posted: "The Loch on Netflix is ever so good. Beautifully filmed." A user on X added: "The beautiful Scottish scenery gives it such a nice feel, and I can bet that you'll never figure out who the killer is till the last episode." After The Loch was first released, one critic described it as "so ludicrous it makes Nessie seem believable." Describing the show at the time, Glasgow-born Fraser, 50, who plays Detective Sergeant Annie Redford, said: "It's all very dark and creepy but also has moments that are quite tongue-in-cheek. THE Scottish Sun joins Nessie hunters as they prepare for the biggest ever search for the monster "It reminds me a wee bit of the classic movie An American Werewolf in London. "It has that vibe and there's a lot of animal symbolism – wolves, crows, mutilated sheep and, of course, plenty of mentions of the Loch Ness monster." Much of the show was filmed across various locations in Scotland, with Loch Ness itself becoming the setting of a murder scene. The action starts after a body is hidden beneath the surface of the loch, as residents of the local town of Lochnefoy are blissfully unaware of its presence. The beautiful Fort Augustus is the location for the fictional town of Lochnefoy whilst the wild countryside of the series is picked from across the Highlands. The quaint Scottish hamlet is nestled on the most southern tip of Loch Ness, offering spectacular views over the stunning scenery. The dramatic Carn Mor Mountain looms over the action, as the body of local man Niall Swift is found at the foot of the natural wonder. Carn Mor Dearg is the eighth-highest mountain in Scotland and is located close to the town of Fort William. What is Loch Ness about and who are the cast? IN a community nourished and sustained by myth and bordered by untamed nature, the search for a serial killer becomes a matter of life and death Especially for local detective Annie Redford, who is trying to cope with her first murder case. When the body of local man Niall Swift is found at the foot of Carn Mohr Mountain and an isolated human heart on the loch shore, the town's normality is shattered and the nightmare begins. Within the tightly knit community, several local characters will come under suspicion as the monster lurking in their midst begins to terrify and rock the village to its core. Forensic profiler, Blake Albrighton, will assist on the case offering insights borne from the last four cases he's helped crack with his distinctive way of working. The Missing star Laura Fraser plays Detective Annie Redford while Downton Abbey's Siobhan stars as DCI Lauren Quigley. Florence Foster Jenkins star John Session also takes a lead role in the Broadchurch style series and they are joined by Holby City star Don Gilet and Coronation Street's Gray O'Brien. Death In Paradise star William Ash is also in the cast, along with soap actor Gray O'Brien and Waterloo Road actor William Ash. Fort William is a town in the western Scottish Highlands, which is known as a gateway to Ben Nevis, and was chosen for the filming backdrop. It is the second largest settlement in the Highlands of Scotland with around 10,000 inhabitants. Glen Coe was also chosen by producers for scenes in the six-part murder mystery drama. Siobhan Finneran, who plays the role of Lauren Quigley, previously said: "The weather was actually more challenging in July than it was in September. "And then, of course, in September, we had these glorious sunshine-filled days when we were usually in the studio. 'But they're very used to it up there, as am I, coming from the north of England. Rain, snow, a bit of sunshine and hail all in the space of a couple of hours.' 5 The hit ITV show The Loch has been renamed to Loch Ness, and is one of Netflix's most-watched shows Credit: ITV
