I Know What You Did Last Summer director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson teases possible sequel

Perth Nowa day ago
I Know What You Did Last Summer director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson has "a plan of what could be next".
The 37-year-old filmmaker helmed the 2025 slasher, and has now revealed she has already started to think about a sequel – though refused to give any details about the possible follow-up.
She told Screen Rant: "I do have a plan in mind of what could be next. I cannot tell you."
Even so, the director teased she'd like Brandy Norwood's Karla – who appeared in the 1998 sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer as Julie James' (Jennifer Love Hewitt) roommate – to have a part in a potential follow-up after she cameoed in the mid-credits scene of I Know What You Did Last Summer.
Robinson said: "I wanted Brandy in this film. And again, a lot of the cameos, a lot of the choices made—they just had to be the right thing. Not just for the character and for the franchise, but for this version of the movie and the story that we were telling.
"So for me, to catch up with Brandy where we find her in the film, and to know that Julie James is a character who has shut everybody out—she left Southport, she abandoned Ray, she doesn't really have any friends, she lives by herself—that person wouldn't necessarily have kept up with anyone.
"So bringing them back together was really fun, and I loved being able to do that."
I Know What You Did Last Summer sees the return of Jennifer Love Hewitt's Julie James and Freddie Prinze Jr.'s Ray Bronson as they try to help a group of teens escape the clutches of a masked killer following a hit-and-run cover-up.
The horror flick also saw the surprise cameo appearance of Sarah Michelle Gellar's ill-fated Helen Shivers – who met a grizzly end in the original 1997 I Know What You Did Last Summer.
Reflecting on his wife's shock return, Prinze Jr. said he was "glad" he was able to keep quiet about Gellar's secret comeback.
Freddie told PEOPLE he "knew from jump" that Sarah would be in the new movie, adding: "We were all really excited for audiences to get to see that and get a little bit of extra love that they weren't expecting.
"It's nice to know a secret, and to know how well-received it's going to be, months and months before it ever goes out there.
"To hear the reaction that people have had, because I know some other people that have seen it, they're all like: 'Oh, my God, you didn't tell me! That was the best.'
"I'm like, 'Yeah, it was the best one. Everybody always loves her.' To give people another taste of that, I just think was awesome. I'm glad everyone made it happen."

Bella Kidman Cruise returns to social media with cryptic post weeks after Nicole's low-key visit to London

Bella Kidman Cruise has shared a rare social media update just weeks after her world-famous mother Nicole Kidman made a quick trip to London. UK-based Bella works as a visual artist in the English capital but is understood to be somewhat estranged from her adopted mother Nicole and father Tom Cruise. Meanwhile, Nicole regularly shares family snaps with Bella's half-sisters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret, from the Oscar winner's second marriage to Keith Urban. In recent months, Bella was noticeably absent from both a mother's day tribute by Nicole and a group photo of all the Kidman family women taken at the movie star's Nashville mansion. Bella also shares another half-sister, Suri Cruise, from Tom's third marriage to actress Katie Holmes. On Wednesday, Cruise posted a cryptic Instagram story showing images of two women's faces spliced together without a caption, marking her first social media update in months. In 2015, UK-based Bella married British I.T. consultant Max Parker but neither of her famous parents attended the nuptials. Nevertheless, Cruise reportedly helped pay for the event, while a Kidman source told People that Nicole was "very happy for Bella." Nicole was recently in London to appear at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships and attended the men's singles final with newly retired Vogue editor Anna Wintour. It is understood Bella, 32, lives in the English capital with her husband but it is unclear if she saw her movie star mother or country star stepfather during the brief visit. Meanwhile, Nicole's only son Connor, 30, lives in Clearwater, Florida, a small city closely associated with the Scientology community. The Aussie movie star has not been photographed with her two elder children in more than 15 years and typically declines to discuss them in interviews out of respect of their religious beliefs. Tom and Nicole married in a private Christmas Eve ceremony in 1990, less than a year after he finalised his divorce from actress Mimi Rogers. The pair were married for 11 years and adopted Bella in 1992 and Connor in 1995 before separating in 2001. Kidman, 58, and Cruise, 63, were reportedly given joint custody of Bella and her younger brother Connor in the divorce. However, the adopted children, who are devout Scientologists like Cruise, opted to live with their father.

Sarah Michelle Gellar gives huge update on Buffy The Vampire Slayer reboot

Don't miss out on the headlines from Movies. Followed categories will be added to My News. Sarah Michelle Gellar is single-handedly keeping the memory of the 90s alive for millennials this year. Earlier in 2025, she announced that she'll be stepping back into Buffy Summers' stylish boots, and now she's once again seemingly risen from the dead with a surprise cameo in Sony's reboot of I Know What You Did Last Summer. Gellar became a horror icon when she starred alongside Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ryan Phillippe and future husband Freddie Prinze Jr in the original 90s horror flick as enigmatic beauty queen, Helen Shivers. The Hollywood star has partnered with Uber One in celebration of Sony's I Know What You Did Last Summer . Picture: Supplied Despite being perhaps the biggest star in the movie, Gellar's character is killed off in a heartbreaking moment that's considered among horror fans be to be one of the best chase scenes ever put on film. While Gellar previously rubbished demands to return to the reboot, reminding fans that 'she's dead', it turns out the screen icon was keeping her cards very close to her chest. Speaking with about her new partnership with Uber One on their new advert that sees Gellar once again come face-to-face with the film's eerie fisherman himself, she revealed that she does indeed make a surprise return in the new movie that's out now in cinemas. 'So the first thing I can clarify is that I never said I wasn't going to be in it!' she laughed. 'I actually didn't intend to do it.' She explained that the movie's writer and director, Jennifer Robinson, who just so happens to be one of her closest friends – they talk twice a day, every day – insisted that she would find a way to bring back the fan favourite character. But Gellar wasn't convinced at first. 'She told me about three years ago that she wanted to do this and I was like, that's great. I'll help you with Freddy and I'll anything you need with the movie. I just can't be in it. She's like, 'I'm gonna figure out a way.' And I was like, 'There's no way. I'm dead. I'm not going to be a weird twin!'' Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr at the premiere of the new horror flick. Picture: Getty. Gellar as Helen Shivers in the original movie. Picture: Sony Despite her initial refusal to make a cameo, Robinson eventually found a way to bring back Shivers that Gellar felt honoured the character well enough to walk back onto set in the cover of darkness. 'I was getting up at five in the morning, sneaking into this set. I was not allowed to go outside the entire day that I was filming. because I was in the costume. So I literally was inside for an entire day.' The horror flick was shot entirely here in Australia, and Gellar's collaboration with Uber One came about while she and husband Prinze Jr were living in a home in Rose Bay. 'I usually do all the Uber ordering at home. And before we left, I said to him 'You have to get Uber for Australia because you're going to need it to get around and to order food,' so he finally let me put it onto his phone,' she shared. 'Our first favourite [order] was this great coffee shop in Rose Bay. I wish I could remember the name but they had the most wonderful Turkish coffee and little desserts that we ordered at least every other day while we were in Australia.' The 90s icon went on to share how much she 'loves' spending time Down Under, admitting that it's 'the one place' where she could see herself moving with her family at some point in the future. Gellar's role as Buffy is considered one of the most memorable TV performances of the last three decades. Picture: Supplied. Gellar went on to reveal that the hugely anticipated reboot of the show is set to get into production sooner than fans may have first realised. 'We're getting really close. We have to make sure everything is done right. But I will say we are filming very soon,' she teased. Ever since the reboot was first announced fans have been eager to know which of Buffy's pals might be seen returning to the show alongside her. In the original show, fan favourite character Anya, who was originally supposed to be in a handful of episodes only to become one of the most beloved characters, dies in the show's finale. It's a brutal second-long scene and for years fans have felt she was owed more. When I quizzed Gellar on whether the vengeance demon, played by Emma Caulfield, could return, she confessed that she's very much 'on the list' to come back. Emma Caulfield [right] could be making a comeback to the Buffy reboot, as long as Disney gives Gellar the budget. Picture: Warner. 'I will do my best to honour the original show while also giving a chance to the new characters. I tell everyone to be patient because if we bring back all of the new characters right away, then the audience doesn't have time to like and get to the know the new characters. They won't give them the time of day. So I want to make sure I do spend the right amount of time establishing the new characters.' 'But anyone that follows me knows that Emma and I are very close and obviously, you know, they're all on my list. 'We have to get Hulu and Disney to give us enough episodes, over the course of a couple of years, so we can bring everybody back. All the budget as well!' she said. I asked Gellar how she feels about the legacy of acclaimed Buffy episode The Body, in which she gives an incredible performance as Buffy deals with the shocking sudden death of her mother. Despite being heaped with praise at the time, because Buffy was still seen as a teen-leaning show on a lesser network, Gellar mostly missed out during awards season, only scoring one Golden Globe nomination in the end. Discussing whether she felt respected within the industry at the time, Gellar replied: 'That's an interesting question. I know a lot of people behind the scenes and on the set did feel that they [awards and critics] weren't for me. But I make the show for the fans, not for awards and critics.' 'And so I really felt the love,' insisted the star. 'If there was a nomination for an award from fans, we always won and people loved it and and so for me, that was the joy that I got. 'And I do have a Daytime Emmy,' she chuckled. 'It's very nice!' Gellar's new I Know What You Did Last Summer campaign ties in with Uber One's partnership with HOYTS, offering perks for members including discounted tickets ($12.50 for general admission, $27.50 for HOYTS LUX) and unlimited free popcorn refills. Man left in critical condition after trying to save Malcolm-Jamal Warner

A man left in critical condition after the drowning of Malcolm-Jamal Warner was trying to save him. The 54-year-old actor died after being swept away by a rip current on a beach in Costa Rica over the weekend and another unnamed man – who was injured in the incident – was actually a Good Samaritan who spotted Warner in difficulty and tried to save him. The Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) told PEOPLE in a statement: "The victim appears to have entered the sea and was apparently swept away by a current. The man was rescued by bystanders and taken to shore, where he received treatment from the Costa Rican Red Cross. However, he was declared lifeless at the scene." A spokesperson for the OIJ confirmed to PEOPLE that the second victim "came in [the water] to help Mr. Warner." The spokesperson added that the other person had no personal connection to Warner, but saw him from the beach and tried to help. The Cosby Show actor Warner was on vacation with his wife and daughter at the time of the accident, according to NBC News. The OIJ also confirmed that Warner's autopsy showed he died from accidental asphyxiation by submersion. It added: 'The body will be removed from the Judicial Morgue by a funeral service company hired by Mr. Warner's family.' Meanwhile, tributes to Malcolm poured in from across the showbiz world, with his 9-1-1 co-star Jennifer Love Hewitt stating that the tragedy "hurts my heart". She wrote on social media: "This hurts my heart. A gentleman, an incredible talent and we were so lucky to have him in the 9-1-1 family. Heartbroken and sending love to his family." Comedian Sherri Shepherd described Malcolm as "one of the most-grounded people I've met in our business" after working with him on the TV series Sherri. She said: "As someone who grew up on TV, Malcolm remained one of the most-grounded people I've ever met in our business. To know Malcolm was to know a renaissance man that possessed humour, grace, humility and deep cultural appreciation. He was just a good guy! "His passing is a true loss to the Hollywood community. He was a proud girl dad and loved his daughter so much. To his family, friends and all who loved him - my heart is with you."
