Op Lejang: Along Jap Gang members involved in stealing old vehicles busted
KLANG: Police arrested four local men from the Along Jap Gang who are believed to be involved in the theft of old vehicles around South Klang from April 10 to 30.
Selangor Deputy Police Chief DCP Mohd Zaini Abu Hassan said the suspects, aged between 25 and 40 who have been active since the end of last year, were arrested separately through Op Lejang.
He said apart from South Klang, the suspects were also found to be active in stealing vehicles in North Klang, Shah Alam and Kuala Selangor by targeting old cars such as Perodua Kancil, Proton Iswara, Proton Iriz as well as motorcycles including Honda EX5 and Yamaha Y15.
'Also found along with the suspect were six vehicles including one car frame, six motorcycles and one frame. Checks revealed that all the suspects had 30 previous criminal records related to crimes, followed by 22 drug-related cases,' he said at a press conference at the South Klang District Police Headquarters here today.
Mohd Zaini said investigations found that the stolen vehicles were not sold but were used daily by the suspects after changing the registration number and stealing other vehicles to get spare parts.
He said the modus operandi of the group was to chance upon the negligence of the public who left their keys on vehicles to commit crimes and only used basic techniques to steal the vehicles.
'With this arrest, police believe they have successfully solved eight cases of theft of motorcycles and nine old vehicles in the South Klang area and nearby districts,' he said.
Mohd Zaini said the suspect was found to be positive for methamphetamine-type drugs and the case was being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code.

One dead, 13 injured in three-vehicle crash in Machang
MACHANG: A man was killed and 13 others were injured in an accident involving three vehicles at Kilometre 9.4, Jalan Machang-Pasir Puteh (Banggol Judah), here last night. Machang district police chief, Superintendent Ahmad Shafiki Hussin, said the incident, which occurred at around 11.45 pm, involved a Chevrolet four-wheel drive, a Proton Waja and a Perodua Kancil. 'Initial investigations found that the Chevrolet pickup truck carrying five individuals from Machang to Pasir Puteh lost control and skidded into the opposite lane before colliding head-on with a Proton Waja carrying six individuals from the opposite direction,' he said in a statement today. As a result of the collision, the driver of the Proton Waja died at the scene of the incident after being trapped in the vehicle. 'The Perodua Kancil that was behind the Proton Waja with three individuals including a child was also involved when it crashed into the involved vehicle,' he said. Ahmad Shafiki said the victim's body had been sent to Machang Hospital for a post-mortem, while 13 other injured victims were taken to Machang Hospital and Tanah Merah Hospital for further treatment. According to him, the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. In this regard, the public who have information related to the incident are asked to assist in the investigation by contacting Traffic Investigating Officer, Insp. Miri District Police Chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, in a statement today, said the operation was conducted between 11pm and 3am by a team of traffic police from the Miri District Police Headquarters. The offences including expired vehicle licences, driving without a licence, structural modifications, modified exhausts, missing side mirrors, missing or fancy registration numbers, failure to display the 'P' (probationary) plate, and faulty motorcycle brakes. 'Three local men, aged 16, 21 and 25, were inspected and detained on suspicion of committing offences under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. 'If convicted, all suspects will be charged under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a maximum penalty of five years' imprisonment, a minimum fine of RM5,000 up to RM10,000, and disqualification from holding a driving licence,' ACP Mohd Farhan said in the statement. Additionally, 11 motorcycles were seized under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act for documentation purposes. ACP Mohd Farhan urged the public to report any street racing or road hooliganism by contacting Traffic Investigation Officer Inspector Mohammad Amiruddin Hamdan at 018-952 9957 or 085-430 479, or by visiting the nearest police station.
