Centre approves Rs 2,006 crore aid for Himachal Pradesh for reconstruction activities post-2023 landslides, floods
A high-level committee under the chairmanship of Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Wednesday approved central assistance of Rs 2,006.40 crore to Himachal Pradesh for recovery and reconstruction activities in the aftermath of flood, landslides, and the cloudburst incident in 2023.
A statement issued by the central government said, 'Out of this (Rs 2,006.40 crore), Rs 1,504.80 crore will be the central share from Recovery and Reconstruction Funding Window under National Disaster Response Fund. Earlier, on December 12, 2023, the Ministry of Home Affairs had approved additional financial assistance of Rs 633.73 crore from the NDRF for Himachal Pradesh…'
The committee, comprising the Finance Minister, Agriculture Minister and NITI Aayog Vice-Chairman, considered the proposal for financial assistance to the state through the Recovery and Reconstruction funding window under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF).
The state government under Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has long been blaming the Centre for not releasing the Post Disaster Need Assessment (PDNA) funds of approximately Rs 9,000 crore. The issue has been a topic of heated discussions between the ruling party MLAs and the Opposition BJP legislators during various Assembly sessions.
Senior BJP leaders, including national president J P Nadda and former chief minister Jai Ram Thakur, hailed the central government on Wednesday for approving the assistance.
The Centre had earlier approved Rs 1,658.17 crore for Uttarakhand in the aftermath of the land subsidence in Joshimath, and Rs 555.27 crore for Sikkim in the wake of the glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) in 2023.
Further it also approved projects with an overall financial outlay of Rs 7,253.51 crore for mitigating the risks pertaining to a number of hazards in the areas of urban floods (Rs 3,075.65 crore), landslides (Rs 1,000 crore), GLOF (Rs 150 crore), forest fire (Rs 818.92 crore), lightning (Rs 186.78 crore) and drought (Rs 2,022.16 crore).
This additional assistance is over and above the funds released by the Centre to the states under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) which is already placed at the disposal of the states. During the 2024-25 financial year, the Centre released Rs 20,264.40 crore to 28 states under the SDRF and Rs 5,160.76 crore under the NDRF to 19 states. Additionally, Rs 4,984.25 crore was released from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF) to 19 states and Rs 719.72 crore from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) to eight states.

Maharashtra makes Hindi 3rd language for class 1-5; Opposition protests
The Maharashtra government 's move to have Hindi as the third language for students from standard 1 to standard 5 has once again triggered a language war with the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena and Marathi language activists calling it a "backdoor" move for imposing Hindi. The Maharashtra government issued a Government Resolution on Tuesday whereby it modified its GR issued this April where it had made Hindi a mandatory third language for students. The April GR was stayed after the opposition and Marathi language proponents had slammed the move calling it an attempt to "impose Hindi". The modified GR now says Hindi will be taught as a third language but would not be mandatory. Students are at liberty to study any other language provided there are a minimum of 20 students who choose the other language. This move is being projected by parties like MNS as an attempt to 'finish' off Marathi. "We need to oppose it. They ( BJP ) will finish off Marathi literature ," said MNS chief Raj Thackeray .

MCDCC bank elections: Filing of nomination ends
Mysuru: The filing of nomination papers for the elections to the board of directors of the Mysuru-Chamarajanagar District Central Cooperative bank (MCDCC) concluded on Wednesday. As polls to elect 17 directors for MCDCC were scheduled to take place on June 26, the last day saw a big rush for the filing of nominations at the office of the deputy commissioner in Siddharth Nagar. The district administration office witnessed a flurry of activities with the candidates accompanied by their party workers and supporters, even though the elections to these posts were held non-political, without any respective party symbols. MLAs GD Harish Gowda (Hunsur-JD(S), Anil Chikkamadu (HD Kote-Congress), former MLA Sunitha Veerappagowda, who is a Congress functionary, and several other bigwigs in cooperatives filed their nominations. Even former minister and Chamarajanagar MLA C Puttarangashetty, MLA HM Ganeshprasad, former MLA R Narendra, and others also filed nominations for the election. All the three political parties have taken these elections as a prestige issue to take control of this cooperative bank that has an annual business turnover of Rs 2,500 crore and plays a crucial role in agriculture financing in the twin districts of Mysuru and Chamarajanagar. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Esse novo alarme com câmera é quase gratuito em São Gonçalo (consulte o preço) Alarmes Undo Speaking to reporters after filing nomination papers, Harish Gowda, the outgoing president, exuded confidence about his win in the polls as cooperatives of the twin districts have kept a lot of faith in him and supported his candidature beyond political affiliations.
