How Long Will ‘Destiny 2: Frontiers' Be Delayed?

Forbes09-04-2025
Destiny 2
Look, I hope I'm wrong about this, but at this point, with Destiny 2's Heresy Episode ending, and attention turned toward the new Frontiers era of the game, I'm wondering just how much it's going to be delayed past its stated release window.
I was complaining a bit after the finale that Heresy did not seem to paint anything resembling a clear path toward Frontiers, narratively. But past that, it's more about what we haven't seen from Frontiers so far and that is…almost anything at all. We have some concept art, we have a conceptual roadmap with codenamed expansions and a few minor blog posts about coming changes.
I do understand that Bungie does not currently want to step on Marathon stuff, with a big reveal coming this Saturday, but the supposed release date for Frontiers is just three months away, July 15, according to when the current battle pass ends (and weirdly, possibly a clue in the Marathon ARG).
Is that possible, though? I went back and checked and there was just a wildly larger window between reveal/preorders and the release of past expansions (most of which were delayed a number of months). That includes the likes of The Final Shape, which could be pre-ordered in May 2023 before a June 2024 release, and The Witch Queen, which could be pre-ordered August 2021 before a February 2022 release.

Again, I get the current Marathon buzz, but having this little info, no pre-orders and not even pricing or a name for the first Frontiers expansion allegedly three months before release does not indicate to me this is actually going to be released in three months. If this ages poorly, great, I hope it does.
There are two factors to consider here. The first is that Frontiers is an entirely new era of the game and Bungie may want to keep that under wraps. Though I would argue previously they have not cared about keeping huge expansion plot points secret between Cayde's death in Forsaken and showcasing The Final Shape in a way that made the storylines of the year before it somewhat irrelevant. So it wouldn't be the first time.
The second is what everyone in the industry is stressed about, the GTA 6 release date, allegedly coming this fall (I still have my doubts). So, if Frontiers/Apollo has to be delayed until fall, we wouldn't know when in the fall, probably, until GTA 6 is announced, as no one wants to be anywhere near that atom bomb.
Given where we are now, what we don't know, and Bungie's past history of delaying expansions, I don't think this is making it out in July, or maybe even summer. Also, while the Destiny team is separate, it's still clear that the studio is gearing up for a massive Marathon push at the same time. I just don't seen how this comes together in three months.

Dave Franco responds to being fan-cast as Luigi Mangione: ‘I'm open'

After nearly a year of online buzz, Dave Franco has finally weighed in on potentially playing Luigi Mangione on the big screen. Fans on the internet wasted no time pointing out the uncanny resemblance between the Palo Alto native and Mangione, the primary suspect in the murder case of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, since the 27-year-old was arrested in December. Many suggested that Franco would be a great candidate to play Mangione in any future movies or made-for TV shows reenacting the crime. When asked about the discourse during a recent appearance on Bravo's 'Watch What Happens Live,' hosted by Andy Cohen, he admitted he wouldn't be opposed to the idea. "No one has approached me about it yet," he told one viewer via video call during a Q&A portion of the episode, which aired on Tuesday, Aug. 5. "Let's just say I'm open if it's the right people, and let's leave it at that." Franco, who was on the late-night talk show to promote his new body horror film ' Together,' in which he stars opposite his real-life wife Alison Brie, also mentioned that this is far from the first time he has heard about being compared to Mangione. 'More people in my life reached out about this exact thing than anything else that has ever happened,' he said. Mangione, who has ties to Stanford University, was taken into custody on Dec. 9, in connection with the killing of Thompson. Police found several handwritten pages expressing a 'disdain for corporate America' and frustrations with the United States' healthcare system on Mangione when he was arrested. He has pleaded not guilty. From the moment his name and mugshot were released, social media users dug into Mangione's online presence, from Linkedin to Spotify and Letterboxd accounts. A vocal subset of the internet has viewed Mangione as a martyr, urging for his release, making fancam videos of him and even dubbing him 'America's Sweetheart.' In addition to advocating for Franco's involvement in a potential on-screen project, several online have suggested that television writer and creator Ryan Murphy should be involved. Murphy has a history of creating series and film adaptations based on real-life headline news, from 'American Crime Story,' which chronicled the death of Gianni Versace and earned San Francisco native Darren Criss a Golden Globe; O.J. Simpson's murder trial, which starred Stanford alum Sterling K. Brown; and the Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky scandal, to 'Monsters,' which has run through the stories of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer and the Menendez Brothers murder case. But while Hollywood may not have jumped in yet, the case has inspired several documentaries and a San Francisco play, ' Luigi: The Musical.' Earlier this week, the production announced a run at Edinburgh Fringe Festival from Aug. 19-23, its first set of shows outside of San Francisco.

'Aura farming?': Veteran Chiefs DL called out by Gen Z teammate at training camp practice

Use of the term "aura farming" is on the rise, despite the fact that many who hear or read it are wholly ignorant of its meaning. Usually attributed to the extremely-online lexicon of Generation Alpha, aura farming "refers to an act of constantly trying to look 'cool' or 'badass' to build 'aura moments,'" according to the experts at Know Your Meme. The expression officially became part of the zeitgeist in Chiefs Kingdom on Tuesday, August 5, when star defensive lineman George Karlaftis accused veteran pass-rusher Charles Omenihu of "aura farming" at one of Kansas City's recent training camp practice sessions. Take a look at this clip of Karlaftis calling out Omenihu, which was posted to Twitter by the Chiefs' official account: Karlaftis, a native of Athens, Greece, was born on April 3, 2001, placing him squarely in the Generation Z demographic cohort with Omenihu, who originally hails from Houston, Texas, and was born a few years earlier on August 20, 1997. While neither player necessarily fits the description of a person who would be expected to know what "aura farming" is (let alone one who would be able to use it in context in everyday conversation), this interaction may be a sign that a new "rizz king" or "skibidi toilet" might emerge from Kansas City's training camp activities. And, if that happens, God help us all (I think?).

Here's The Exact Time ‘Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6' And Warzone Season 5 Starts And What To Expect

A whole bunch of new content is about to land in Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone. This includes new multiplayer maps and modes, new Zombies content and one very big change to the battle royale map, Verdansk. There's also a new Battle Pass and BlackCell Battle Pass, new weapons and more. Here's everything you need to know about Call Of Duty Season 5. Season 5 releases August 7th at 9 am PT / 12 pm ET across all platforms. Most of the season's new content will be available at launch or close to the beginning of the season, while more maps and modes will become available at the mid-season update (in about five weeks). Multiplayer Season 5 Update Several new maps are releasing in Season 5, including three launch maps available at the start of the season: Runway (6v6, Medium-Sized) A medium-sized map that takes place at Arzak Provincial Airport, Runway has both interior and exterior zones with plenty of options for close-quarters engagements. Exchange (2v2, 6v6 Small-Sized) FEATURED | Frase ByForbes™ Unscramble The Anagram To Reveal The Phrase Pinpoint By Linkedin Guess The Category Queens By Linkedin Crown Each Region Crossclimb By Linkedin Unlock A Trivia Ladder This Strike map takes place in the Avalon marketplace. The symmetrical, three-lane map is centered around a Deli. The map will be available in both Faceoff and Gunfight modes. W.M.D. (6v6 Medium-Sized) W.M.D. was first introduced in the original Black Ops game. It's reimagined here as a luxury Italian car manufacturer in Avalon. The snow from the original map is gone. Now clouds hang above the Autofiorno plant, though the layout should be familiar to long-time fans of the Black Ops franchise. I think it's worth noting that both the last two maps take place in Avalon, the location for the much-rumored upcoming Warzone big map. Is this an indication that Avalon will make its debut alongside Black Ops 7 at the end of the year? As much as I do enjoy Verdansk, I'm ready for another new Warzone map. The mid-season update will include one more map: Jackpot is inspired by the Black Ops 4 map 'Casino' and takes place in the Casino Luttazzi. It combines elements of that map with the High Rollers mission from the Black Ops 6 campaign, reworking both the layout and the aesthetic of the original map. New modes and playlists coming to Season 5 include: Multiplayer is also getting the new Combat Bow Scorestreak. It fires single-shot, explosive-tipped arrows that deal incendiary damage. Other updates to multiplayer include a new season of Ranked Mode with all-new rewards including weapon camos and a Jackal PDW SMG blueprint, calling cards, decals and more. Zombies Season 5 Update The Reckoning Zombies map lands at launch for Season 5, with a guided mode releasing at the mid-season update. The new map takes place in crumbling towers near Liberty Falls. The new Elite Enemy, Uber Klaus, joins the fray. The giant mecha-zombie should provide a tough new challenge for players. Uber Klaus is joined by other smaller robots (Kommando Klaus) that appear after mysterious red mist descends on players. Players will also be able to get their hands on the new Wonder Weapon Gorgofex that combines fungal, floral and insectile traits that deal damage and gravity-defying disruption. Grief Mode comes to Reckoning in-season. Two teams of 4 face off against one another and the zombies. This type of PvPvE content is exactly what brings me to modes like Zombies. I'm not a huge co-op gamer, but once you add in a competitive element I'm all-in. A Cranked mode also comes to Zombies in-season as well as plenty of other content. Warzone Season 5 Update Something big is happening in Verdansk. The Stadium POI has opened up, allowing players to once again access the interior and field. Only now . . . it sounds like a superweapon might be buried beneath. According to the Call Of Duty blog, 'The extent of the threat remains unclear, though a weapon capable of large-scale destruction is expected to be unearthed within the vicinity.' Could this be a hint that Verdansk is about to be destroyed to pave the way for the new Avalon map? That seems increasingly likely. A number of big changes and additions and modes are coming to Warzone in Season 5: New Contract – Satellite Hijack (In-Season, Week One) This is a special multi-stage contract that can only be accessed via the Stadium. This means it's going to be insanely hot. While info on what can be obtained by completing the contract is redacted, we know that it's a permanent unlock in your Gunsmith – either a weapon or weapon attachment of some sort. Stadium Resurgence LTM – 36 players (In-Season, Week Two) As you can see in this image, the Stadium is open but not all the way. A big hole has been blown in the roof, rather than the fully opened Stadium from the days of Verdansk past. The special LTM brings Resurgence to just this POI, which should make for fast and intense matches. There are a total of 7 circles. Deadline LTM (Mid-Season) This is a fun twist on the battle royale mode. Basically, players respawn just like Resurgence mode. As long as one of your teammates is alive, you'll come back. The twist? At the end of each circle, the team with the lowest point total is eliminated. You can earn points by getting eliminations, completing contracts, looting supplies and spending cash at Buy Stations. Points are reset completely with each new circle, so you'll never be able to rely on early gains. This mode includes both real human players and AI Bots. Ranked Battle Royale and Resurgence (Launch Window) Ranked is back for Season 5 on both Verdanks and Rebirth Island. New rewards including stickers, camos, Blueprints and more are available as you climb the ranks from Bronze to Top 250 (or get stuck at Platinum or Diamond like me). Solos Update Both Solos and Casual Solos will be available starting in Season 5 as well, along with Casual Quads and Casual Resurgence Quads. Normal Solos, however, will only be available in North America and Europe. New Weapons And Updates Across Multiplayer And Warzone Several new weapons are coming to MP and Warzone, all of which are free and unlocked either in the Battle Pass as free unlock tiers or through events. PML 5.56 LMG (Launch) A full-auto light machine gun with a fast rate of fire and high lethality offset by low mobility and hefty recoil. Apparently this LMG has a higher damage rate than most in its class, more comparable to ARs, but with slow reload and lots of recoil. This is unlocked in the Battle Pass. ABR A1 Assault Rifle (Launch) Three-round burst assault rifle. Good handling and power. Moderate recoil and range. Configurable to full auto. We haven't had any burst-fire ARs in Black Ops 6, oddly enough, though we've had full-auto and single-fire, as well as burst-fire Marksman Rifles. The ABR A1 is a new name for a classic Call of Duty AR, previously known as the AUG. This is also a Battle Pass unlock. Boxing Gloves Melee (In-Season) Boxing gloves do moderate damage but they're very fast and have more range than some melee weapons. You can unleash a furry of light blows or land a heavy attack. These are unlocked via an event in-season. Gravemark .357 Revolver (Mid-Season) Single-action revolver. High power and considerable range, limited by lower ammo count and segmented reload. It's frankly bizarre that this is the first Revolver we've had in the Secondary Weapon class in Black Ops 6 so far. I guess better late than never. The Gravemark .357 (cool name, I must admit) will finally allow me to play Custom Matches with only cowboy weapons (this and the Essex lever action rifle). New Weapon Attachments 9mm PM Skull Splitter – This barrel turns your 9mm pistol into a mini Marksman Rifle. Greatly increases damage, especially headshot damage, while reducing rate of fire. A new extended mag can add more ammunition to the gun at the expense of handling. PPSH-41 Hellcal Magazine – Replace the drum magazine on your PPSH-1 with this high-capacity mag, though you'll have to manage heat. Designed for close and medium range spray-and-pray combat. Everything Else New Events Several new Events are coming to Season 5 as well, including '90s Action Heroes (where you'll earn the Boxing Gloves), Hell Ride (where you'll unlock the Gravemark .357), Atomic Block Party (a Nuketown-inspired event) and The Reckoning Leaderboard Event in Zombies mode. Battle Pass Normal and BlackCell variants of the Season 5 Battle Pass will be available. New Operators include Sims, the special BlackCell Operator Solace, and skins for other Operators. The Battle Pass will include 100 tiers of cosmetic unlocks including weapon skins, charms, XP tokens and more. There's also another Replacer bundle headed to the in-game store along with an I Know What You Did Last Summer bundle. This is a good reminder that Call Of Duty continues to lean heavily into goofy skins, something that EA is hoping to avoid with Battlefield 6. Speaking of Battlefield 6, the game's Open Beta begins this weekend. The Early Access portion of the beta launches around the same time as Season 5 of Call Of Duty. Read all about the beta and how to get in early right here.
