‘Golden Bachelor' Mel Owens confronted by contestants on show after his age remarks
The former NFL star, 66, revealed that while filming this season of 'The Golden Bachelor,' some of the contestants confronted him for his ageist remarks.
Owens had said in June that he refuses to date women over the age of 60.

'One of the dates was a roast. It was brutal,' he confessed to Glamour in an interview published on Friday. 'They were killing me…. It was good.'
After all, Owens knows he was in the wrong for his comments.

'My reference of dating was 39, 40 years old,' he explained to the outlet. 'I hadn't dated in 26, 27 years. And at that point, I still hadn't dated, so my reference was my age, basically. That's what I told my friend.'
However, Owens' pal didn't agree with the attorney.
He added, 'She goes, 'It doesn't matter. You've said some things that are just incredibly wrong.' And I go, 'I've got to apologize.''

Owens also set the record straight on why he agreed to do the reality show despite not wanting to date anyone over 60.
'Because I didn't know anything about 'The Golden Bachelor' ages,' he confessed. 'I didn't know the age range. To me, the age range was 45 to 60. That's my age range. I go, 'Oh, okay.' So I'm thinking that's the 'gold' years for me. My reference again was when I was dating at 39, 40. I hadn't dated in 26 years, so I had no clue. And that's why the comment. I didn't know.'
While on the 'MGoBlue Podcasts with Jon Jansen' in June, Owens also made the jab that he wasn't interested in dating women with any artificial hips.

Looking back, the athlete regrets that statement.
'I know [that's not right]. People run marathons. I'm an attorney, I represent athletes with injuries, and most of them are football, hockey, and a lot of them have artificial hips,' he went on. 'I apologized to the women on the show. When I first walked in, I addressed it. I apologized to them. I said, 'It was unfair, insensitive. I want to earn it back. Just give me the chance.' And hopefully, these last two, three weeks, I earned some of that back.'
After Owens' podcast appearance, fans called for the reality star to be recast. The news made its way back to Owens.

'My friend asked me, 'Hey, are you getting replaced?' I go, 'Not that I know of,'' he recalled, admitting that he would have been upset if he had been.
'Looking back on it and looking forward, it's a great experience,' Owens gushed. 'It's such a great experience for me, and so, oh yeah, I wouldn't have wanted to be recast. But I'm going to earn it back just by being myself and being fair and apologetic and honest and be myself.'
Not everyone is so quick to give this year's golden bachelor a second chance. Some fans shared they won't be tuning in when Owens' season airs next month.

But the California resident thinks that would be a mistake.
'Well, if you don't tune in, you'll never know,' Owens teased. 'So you got to tune in. And again, I'm trying to earn it back. So, watch the show and see if I earn it back. Because I apologized.'
'To earn it back, you have to be earnest in your work to get the trust back,' Owens continued. 'And everybody there is smart and they can see through you if you're lying or you don't mean what you say. That's why I say tune in.'

Along with urging fans to turn on their televisions, the ABC star knows he deserved the criticism he received.
'But I deserved [the anger],' Owens added. 'That was a mistake by me. It's unfair. It's insensitive, like I said. And I have to earn it back every single moment that I'm on the show.'
In June, Owens said he told producers his preferred age range is '45 to 60, just being honest.'
He also told them that 'if they're 60 or over, I'm cutting them. This is not 'The Silver Bachelor,' this is 'The Golden Bachelor.''

Owens revealed that the producers then told him, ''You can't use the word cut.' I go, 'Well, that's an NFL term.''
His comments were quickly faced with backlash.
'He doesn't seem like the type for 'in sickness and in health,'' one fan wrote on X, while a second chimed in: 'Awful. I won't watch with a jerk in the lead.'
A third social media user stated, 'doesn't sound like much of a mystery as to why he's still a bachelor. Anyone who chooses to go on that show deserves whatever disaster they get.'
Owens was married to Fabiana Owens from 2002 to 2020, and the exes share sons Lucas (born in 2005) and Andre (born in 2007), according to Us Weekly.
The 'Golden Bachelor' premieres on Wednesday, September 24 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

Full Broncos player ratings unveiled in 'Madden NFL 26'
EA Sports revealed select player ratings for Madden NFL 26 last week leading up to the full reveal last Friday. Following the full unveiling, we now know the ratings for every Denver Broncos player in this year's version of the popular NFL video game. Denver's highest-rated player is cornerback Pat Surtain (97 overall), who saw his rating jump two spots from last year. If that trend continues, PS2 is on track to have a perfect 99 overall rating next year. The team's highest-rated player on offense is guard Quinn Meinerz (95), who made a big jump from being rated 87 overall in 2024. Check out the full ratings for each position group below. Broncos Madden player ratings Quarterback A decent improvement for Bo Nix, who is up from his 71 overall rating in last year's game. Running back Not only is RJ Harvey far behind J.K. Dobbins, the rookie hasn't even reached the rating of teammate Jaleel McLaughlin yet. That could change with in-season ratings updates. Wide receiver Courtland Sutton remains the top dog in Denver's wide receiver room. Marvin Mims is an All-Pro returner, though, so his 77 overall grade feels a bit low. Tight end/fullback Michael Burton is the sixth-best fullback in the game (there are 12 FBs in this year's Madden), and Evan Engram is the 10th-best tight end. Offensive line Quinn Meinerz is the top-rated guard in this year's Madden. Not pictured: Alex Palczewski (64), Clay Webb (63), Frank Crum (63) and Will Sherman (59). Defensive line Zach Allen remains criminally underrated, and JFM, D.J. Jones and Malcolm Roach feel way too low as well. Outside linebackers Still not much love for Nik Bonitto, either. Inside linebackers Dre Greenlaw is the eighth-best inside linebacker in the game. Cornerback Pat Surtain is not a member of the 99 Club yet, but he is the highest-rated cornerback in the game. Jahdae Barron is tied for having the seventh-best rating among rookies. Safety The Broncos have a very strong safety duo both in real life and in the video. Special teams Wil Lutz is 77 overall ... not bad, not great. Madden NFL 26 will be released on Aug. 14, available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC devices. Scottie Scheffler's role in ‘Happy Gilmore 2' is an unexpected gift for golf fans
This is a story about a movie that saved a sport. OK, that's a stretch, but only a little one. Scottie Scheffler is the No. 1 golfer in the world. Has been for a couple of years. He has won two Masters titles, one PGA Championship and the recent British Open, as well as an Olympic gold medal. He is so good that somebody ought to check his golf balls for tiny magnets that hook up to the cups on the greens. So far this year, by slapping a little white dimpled ball around in the grass, he has won $19.2 million. He has yet to turn 30, but his overall income, just from golf tournaments, is around $90 million. This guy is so good that his caddie, Ted Scott, is estimated, at the normal 10% of winnings, to have pocketed about $5 million. For carrying a bag. So, what's the problem? Scheffler is so good that he might also be sparking a trend called remote remorse. You really want to watch, but once he gets ahead by a couple of shots, there is nothing left. No drama, no possible twist and turn, no chance of any excitement. Other players in those tense, title-on-the-line final holes, dunk a shot into the water or bury one so deep in the sand that their only choice of club is a shovel. Not Scheffler. He is a 6-foot-3 human robot whose veins circulate ice water. When the going gets tough, Scheffler yawns. So, you see this and you know what is coming next — final putt, arms raised in satisfaction, a hug for his multi-millionaire caddie, the mandatory TV interview with the apparently mandatory British-accent female sportscaster, who will always start with, 'How does this feel?' You, and millions more, click the button on your remote for something more interesting, like HGTV or the Gardening Channel. When Scheffler gets ahead in the final round like that — which is almost always — it is game over. He can squeeze the drama out of a golf tournament like Bill Belichick could out of an NFL postgame interview. Certainly, you say, Tiger Woods used to win lots of tournaments by lots of big margins and that never seemed boring. That's because it wasn't. Tiger was animated, angry, annoyed, analytical, fed up with some part of his game, charged up over another part, mad at a reporter, upset with his agent. Tiger could win by eight, occasionally did, and it was still must-see TV. When Tiger was at his best, nobody could beat him and the public loved him and just wanted more. Scheffler is currently at his best and the public certainly is terribly impressed and, sadly, kind of meh. Tiger was a pound-on-the-table-and-shout-at-the-TV kind of player. Scheffler is a nod and a shrug. But there is hope. Hollywood has intervened, as only Hollywood can. Twenty-nine years ago, an up-and-coming comic named Adam Sandler made a movie inspired by one of his New England friends, who was a great hockey player and could also hit a golf ball a long distance with a hockey stick. Sandler called the movie 'Happy Gilmore' and found a wide audience that loved it for its irreverence about a game that flaunts hushed reverence. Among the highlights was an on-course fistfight between Happy Gilmore (Sandler) and aging TV game show host Bob Barker. Barker won by KO. The movie was hilariously overdone slapstick. It was a gut-laugh-a-minute. It was so stupid and wacky that it was wonderful. Now, Sandler has made 'Happy Gilmore 2,' and it is again a must-see for all the reasons that the original was. Plus the cameo appearances. Especially one by Scheffler. In the movie, Scheffler is good, funny, fun. He doesn't have a lot of lines, but he has perfect timing. He punches a guy out on the green and the cops come and haul him away. 'Oh, no. Not again,' he says. Remember, earlier this year, when Louisville cops hauled him away and put him in an orange jail suit, when he was accused of making a wrong turn while driving into the golf course at the PGA Championship, a tournament that he would eventually win? Well, Sandler and his writers made hay out of that, but more significantly, Scheffler played to it perfectly. After the movie punch-out, Scheffler is pictured in a jail cell, in an orange jail suit, as a guard asks, since he has been in that cell for three days, if he wants to get out. Scheffler replies, 'Ah, what's for dinner?' When he is told chicken fingers, he says, 'I think I'll stay another night.' Now, of course, none of that is knee-slapping stuff, but it is Scheffler, and the self-effacing comedy is a perfect image-enhancer, even if it is only in a stupid movie. It is so much better for golf fans to see Scheffler as a roll-with-the-punches fun guy, than an emotionless, ball-striking robot. Neither is totally accurate, but in this media world of image-is-everything, 'Happy Gilmore 2' has done wonderful things for this wonderful golfer. Even moreso, for his sport He will be all over your TV screens for the three-week FedEx playoffs. It starts Aug. 7 with a tournament in Memphis, followed by the next week in Baltimore and the grand finale Aug. 21 in East Lake, Ga., near Atlanta. For the playoffs, the PGA will distribute $100 million in prize money and the winner will receive $10 million. Scheffler, a likely winner, would then certainly be invited to appear on TV, especially the late-night shows such as Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon. This would present another great image-building opportunity. He could show up in an orange jump suit.

Anthony Anderson Tells 17-Year-Old Lindsay Lohan That ‘Men Like Them Young' in Resurfaced Interview; Actor Now Says It Was ‘Clearly Intended as Comedy'
Anthony Anderson has responded to social media backlash over a resurfaced interview he did with Lindsay Lohan in 2003 that many viewers have found deeply uncomfortable. The viral clip is from when Anderson guest hosted 'The Sharon Osbourne Show' nearly 22 years ago. He was 33 years old at the time and Lohan was 17. Anderson was talking to Lohan about how she recently moved in with fellow Disney star and friend Raven-Symoné. 'Both of you are beautiful women. Both of you are young and have your individual styles,' Anderson tells Lohan before asking: 'What gentlemen will be at the new pad with you and Raven-Symoné?' I don't have a boyfriend,' Lohan replies, prompting Anderson to explain to the audience: 'She's single, but looking!' Lohan clarifies, 'I'm illegal for people that are old,' and Anderson says, 'Some men like them young. We ain't gonna mention no names, but I'm one of them.' At a different point in the interview, Anderson throws to commercial break by touting Lohan's movie 'Freaky Friday' and says, 'Right now, we're about to get our freak on.' He moves closer towards Lohan and puts his arms around her while she covers her mouth with her hand. 'This interview was clearly intended as comedy,' a spokesperson told Entertainment Weekly on behalf of Anderson. 'He regrets if the humor was in poor taste and maintains the utmost respect for Lindsay. Any implication to the contrary is both inaccurate and potentially defamatory.' Variety has reached out to Anderson's representatives for additional comment. The interview is possibly resurfacing now that Lohan has embarked on her press tour for the long-awaited 'Freaky Friday' sequel, 'Freakier Friday,' which is opening in theaters Aug. 8 from Disney. Lohan is reprising her role in the film opposite original co-star Jamie Lee Curtis.
