Kris Marshall on reuniting with Love Actually co-star
BBC Death in Paradise spin-off Beyond Paradise launched in 2023 and set to the backdrop of scenic Looe in Cornwall. Kris Marshall returns as Humphrey Goodman from the original series, now solving crimes in the make-believe Shipton Abbott with his detective crew.
Additionally, the story delves into Humphrey's home life with his partner, Martha Lloyd (played by Sally Bretton), who steps into the culinary scene with her venture The Ten Mile Kitchen.

The actual venue used for Martha's enterprise is owned by none other than chef Ben Palmer, crowned champion in the 2024 Great British Menu.

Palmer discussed with the Daily Express how his restaurant, The Sardine Factory, became a pilgrimage site for fans and the community's mixed reactions to its newfound fame.

Despite the boost to business, some local residents have expressed discontent over the influx of visitors flocking to their town. Ben confided: "You know you get a lot of kickback from a lot of locals saying, we don't want more people coming to town, but you know what it's so important to bring tourism to the restaurant business, we rely on it," reports the Express.
Ben disclosed that despite some negative reactions, many locals have welcomed the attention, saying: "As locals, we were all really proud when we saw our beautiful kind of hometown on the telly, it was really kind of cool, and everybody was kind of asking, 'where is this beautiful place?'"

He added: "You know, we're incredibly lucky. It kind of gives you a sense of feeling like we're really proud that this is our hometown, and it just showcases it, making you realise how beautiful it is as well."
Admiring his locality, Ben remarked: "It's a lovely place, but then when you come to see it, you think, 'my God, it is actually,' we're very lucky.
"It's a very beautiful place, and then everybody wants to come and visit where they saw on TV, which was really cool."

Regarding the popularity of Beyond Paradise, Ben acknowledged his surprise, confessing: "I never kind of really watched it, and then obviously I thought, you know, it's in my own town and stuff, you might catch a glimpse of someone you know. I started to watch it and, you know what? It's pretty good."
Ben opened his restaurant back in 2018 as a part of reinvigorating the town, which also included opening a museum. The Sardine Factory gets its name from its previous incarnation as an old sardine processing plant.

Cops probing Strictly drug scandal weeks before new series after ‘two stars took cocaine'

POLICE last night confirmed they are investigating drug allegations relating to Strictly. It comes after The Sun on Sunday revealed yesterday the BBC-led inquiry had contacted cops. 4 We told two weeks ago how the BBC, with the help of external lawyers Pinsent Masons, were probing claims that two Strictly stars had abused cocaine. Yesterday, in a new statement, a Met spokesperson said: 'On Tuesday 12 August, the Metropolitan Police received an allegation about drug related offences. "Police are assessing the information and further enquiries are taking place to establish whether there is evidence of a criminal offence being committed. 'We won't be commenting further at this time.' In The Sun's story two weeks ago we told how it was claimed it was 'well known' that two Strictly stars took drugs including cocaine. And it was alleged one Strictly personality had said about one of the stars they were 'off their face … have you seen the pupils in their eyes'. Yesterday we revealed cops were now involved but did not state the nature and detail of the allegations they were investigating. The corporation had already launched an inquiry into its flagship Saturday night family show amid claims two of its stars had used cocaine. It is understood that detectives from the Met Police are examining other allegations relating to the telly ballroom hit, which has been rocked by a string of controversies. Our latest shock revelation comes as the BBC prepares to launch Strictly's 23rd series next month - after officially announcing the line-up of celebrities including reality TV star Dani Dyer. A source told The Sun on Sunday: 'It's a significant new development in the BBC's recent string of crises that they have now got the police involved in investigating allegations surrounding Strictly. "This is a very dramatic turn of events. 'Despite all the show and its team have been through over recent months, it's hugely controversial that you've now got Scotland Yard detectives probing Strictly. 'This is their biggest prime-time family entertainment show, so it's not a good look for the BBC.' Strictly has been the subject of inquiries into bullying and inappropriate behaviour over the past 14 months. But this is believed to be the first time the BBC has been in contact with the police over allegations linked to the show. It is understood the matter was referred by the BBC after it launched an inquiry, conducted by external lawyers Pinsent Masons, into alleged drug use on the show. The Sun on Sunday reported two weeks ago how it was 'well known' that two Strictly stars took cocaine. It was claimed one accused another of being 'off their face' - saying: 'Have you seen their pupils?' Lawyers were brought in after ex-Strictly star and opera singer Wynne Evans made allegations in a legal submission to the BBC in March. In relation to the drugs allegations, the BBC said a fortnight ago: 'We have clear protocols and policies in place for dealing with any serious complaint raised with us. 'We would always encourage people to speak to us if they have concerns. 'It would not be appropriate for us to comment further.' 4 4

The real life North Wales story behind new BBC drama Confessions of a Steroid Gang

A new BBC series has revealed how a steroid empire based in North Wales was dismantled, partly through a dodgy dog grooming shop set up to launder the money being made. Confessions of a Steroid Gang tells the real life story of Macaulay Dodd and his father Andrew who were jailed after their £1m steroid lab was uncovered. The three-part series reveals how Macaulay, portrayed by Rhondda-based actor Garin Williams, first became addicted to steroids at 15 in the pursuit to achieve the perfect body before he would go on to cook up £1.2m worth of the Class C drug. Although anabolic steroids are a Class C drug, there is an exemption for personal use. Struggling with his relationship with his dad following his parents divorce, Macaulay latched onto his older, gym-going brother and his circle of older friends. His trips to the gym soon turned into something darker when he began injecting steroids at 15, becoming addicted to build the perfect body. His dad, Andrew Dodd, was also struggling. A former Dee estuary fisherman, he was desperate to change his circumstances when he had a chance encounter with a man in the pub who introduced him to the world of steroids. Hearing that 1.5 million people in the UK were using the drug, he decided to get involved. The pair reconnected when Macauley was 18 and living out his car in Deeside before they moved to St Asaph, where they set up their steroid lab in a remote farmhouse. It started as a small scheme in a garden shed but quickly evolved into one of the UK's biggest underground steroid labs, Renvex. The pair were importing the raw ingredients, mainly synthetic testosterone, from China, and formed a network of members of the public who would accept parcels for them without asking questions. Join the North Wales Live Whatsapp community now Speaking on the show, Andrew said: "I didn't really class myself as a criminal. I'd just seen myself as a business owner." A police operation in London eventually led to the discovery of a large quantity of steroids in a flat belonging to Terence Murrell, an online dealer who was buying from Renvex. Documents at the home led police to find a payment to a dog grooming business that Andrew and Macauley had set up in Ruthin to launder the money. North Wales Police closed in on the father and son's operation. They were arrested in a dawn raid and police finally uncovered the lab at the centre of it all. Andrew said it "felt like a relief at the time", fed up of "deceiving" those around him. Both Andrew and Macauley were sentenced to spend five years in prison in 2018. Despite their court-room bust up, they spent their time in prison together, which Macauley said "saved" their relationship. Including testimony from steroid users, experts and those affected by the culture, Confessions of a Steroid Gang shows how image-obsessed social media, testosterone supplements and a booming black market collided and highlights the health risks of unregulated steroid use and addiction. Speaking on his involvement in the series, Garin Williams, who played Macauley said it was the "biggest project" he'd been involved in so far. "As an actor, you want to show as much emotion as possible on screen and with this story about Macauley's life I had a great opportunity to do so."

Vanessa Feltz's ex Ben Ofoedu makes unprovked dig at star while on honeymoon

Vanessa Feltz's ex Ben Ofoedu shares cryptic message with his fans, which appears to be yet another dig at the This Morning star while on honeymoon with new wife Following their split two years ago, things between Vanessa Feltz and her ex-fiancé Ben Ofoedu appeared to simmer as neither spoke of one another. But since the Phats & Small singer tied the knot with his new wife in July, who ironically has the same name as his ex, it seems as though Ben has felt compelled to fire digs at the This Morning presenter. ‌ The former talk show host split with Ben after 16 years together amid suspicion of alleged infidelity. She even appeared on Celebs Go Dating in order to find love again. ‌ Meanwhile, Ben married his wife Vanessa just five months after he popped the question. While on honeymoon, Ben is seen wearing a black baseball cap with "2.0". And thios could be a dig at his ex by referencing his new wife. It comes after reports of Victoria Beckham's four-word comment to Geri Horner amid Spice Girls 'feud'. ‌ The singer and Vanessa were also celebrating her 30th birthday and appeared in good spirits as they soaked up the sunshine while enjoying a drink on their terrace. Leaving little to the imagination, Ben captioned the post saying: " Jay-Z 's quote is, 'Men lie, women lie, but numbers don't'." But this is certainly not the first time that Ben has prodded at his ex. In a post about his wedding, he told his followers on Instagram that his marriage was his "new beginning" and went on to say that he "wasted 17 years of my life." In an interview with MailOnline, he explained: "I have always wanted to be married since I was seven years old. I always wanted to be with someone who would take my surname. I almost gave up on marriage, thinking there wasn't a lady that would walk down the aisle for me." He added: "I can't believe the day has come, it is a dream come true. It feels like I've been waiting for this moment all my life. This is the finale of the chapter that was 17 years of my life." ‌ Just before Vanessa made the decision to end her long-term relationship, it is believed, although unsubstantiated, that there was a hoard of emails and social media messages that led to her believing that he had cheated on her. At the time, the presenter told fans: "People who have been reading about my private life over the weekend will know that my 16-year relationship has come to an end." She added: "I have said, I'm very sad. I'm very shocked, but I am going to soldier forth. I hope to rise like a phoenix from the ashes and all of that."
