Browns add QB Tyler Huntley
When you have two quarterbacks, you have none. When you have five quarterbacks, you're the Browns. When you have six quarterbacks, you're f—ked. Via Adam Schefter of the Browns have added Pro Bowl (seriously) quarterback Tyler Huntley. The reason is far less dysfunctional than the Browns have been. Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel have hamstring injuries. Sheduer Sanders has a sore shoulder. They need healthy bodies to get through practice. Enter Huntley. Huntley spent four seasons with the Browns, from 2020 through 2023. He spent the 2024 offseason with the Browns. He was released in late August, and he returned to Baltimore's practice squad. The Dolphins signed him to the active roster after Tua Tagovailoa suffered his latest concussion. Huntley started five games in 2024. Huntley is much more than a camp arm. He has 25 regular-season appearances, and 14 regular-season starts. It's somewhat surprising he was available. It's not surprising that the Browns have pounced on yet another quarterback. So, yes, Cleveland now has a six-pack of quarterbacks. And their fans may need a Manhattan.

Browns list Joe Flacco as starter on initial depth chart
The 2023 comeback player of the year is back. The Browns have listed 40-year-old Joe Flacco as the starting quarterback on the first depth chart of the 2025 season, via Adam Schefter of Flacco went from the couch to the huddle for the Browns in 2023, lifting the team to the postseason — and upending Damar Hamlin's clone for the CPOY award. Last year, the Browns passed on Flacco. Which made sense. As a fan favorite, the chants would have come early and often for the veteran, once Deshaun Watson continued to underwhelm. This year, the affinity for Flacco makes him the favorite to start and to play until the Browns are essentially cooked for 2025. Per the initial chart, Kenny Pickett is the QB2, followed by rookie Dillon Gabriel and rookie Shedeur Sanders. Later this month, the Browns will have a significant decision to make. Will they carry four quarterbacks on the 53-man roster? If not, who will be the odd man out?

With eight practices as well as Family Night in the books, now is an ideal time to assess the biggest developments of the early throes of Green Bay Packers training camp. Here are the key storylines as pre-season games loom: Matthew Golden looks like the real deal Golden is unarguably the biggest story of training camp so far. As Green Bay's first round-one wide receiver since 2002, that was always likely to be the case for better or worse, but the rookie absolutely looks the part of an elite talent. Any doubts over the legitimacy of his 40 time have been put to bed, as Golden looks fast, twitchy and explosive, and has made some big plays in practice, headlined by a 60-yard touchdown reception from Jordan Love. He is already working with the first-team offense regularly, taking the most perimeter snaps with the ones of any receiver at Family Night. There have been rookie moments where he has made mistakes or has not been on the same page as Love, but all reports indicate he is showing the kind of work ethic required to pick up the offense as quickly as possible and give himself the best chance of success in year one. It is becoming more difficult with each passing day to temper expectations for Golden. Lukas Van Ness shows signs of making the leap Van Ness was always supposed to be a project, but he did not make the kind of progress in year two many expected, and Green Bay's pass rush suffered as a result. 2025 looms as a pivotal year for the former 13th overall pick, and so far, he looks to have answered the bell. He has popped up with a play or two every practice, and on Family Night was active, showing off an impressive bull rush and more burst than has been evident previously. The highlight of his night was walking fellow former first-round pick Jordan Morgan into Love's lap for a sack. With a clear runway to the starting EDGE position across from Rashan Gary, entering his third NFL season and second in Jeff Hafley's system, the time is now for Van Ness, who just turned 24. There is only so much he can prove in practice, but in terms of building optimism, things have gone about as well as the Packers could have hoped so far. Cornerbacks rising to the challenge Green Bay's cornerback group was one of the more intriguing positions on the team at the start of the summer, and possibly the one causing Packers fans the most apprehension. It was easy to see the vision for how Nate Hobbs, Keisean Nixon and Carrington Valentine would form a competent top three, but it was by no means a given. The good news is that the trio has started camp strongly. Hobbs has set the tone (sometimes too much) with his energy and physicality, Nixon seems to have taken to his new role as an outside corner well, and Valentine has four interceptions already, including an acrobatic play to pick off Jordan Love on Saturday night at Lambeau Field. Behind the top three, Kalen King has made some plays in camp and Bo Melton seems to be handling the transition from receiver to corner impressively well. While it's still early, the Packers probably feel pretty good about their decisions regarding the cornerback position this offseason. Jordan Love in command and on the move In his third year as the starter, there appears to be a different kind of confidence and assertiveness in Love, who has made plenty of 'wow' plays and clearly has an even better understanding of the offense. After an injury-plagued season limited his ability to use his legs to his advantage (Love ran the ball 30 fewer times in 2023 than 2024), it has been encouraging to see Love regularly taking off and picking up yardage when necessary this summer. As a quarterback who is not prone to checking the ball down, having the option to run and keep the chains moving is vital, and the early indications are that this will return to Love's game in 2025. Young defensive linemen flash potential Beyond just Van Ness, some of Green Bay's other young trench players have turned heads early in camp. Undrafted rookie Nazir Stackhouse has impressed, earning some reps with the first team. Not to be outdone, his fellow former Bulldog Warren Brinson has made plays in recent days, including at Family Night. Colby Wooden looks to have benefitted from the body transformation he has undertaken, looking unrecognizable from the 273-pound player he was entering the league. The former fourth-round pick looks more powerful and effective than at any point in his prior NFL career. Brenton Cox Jr. ended the 2024 season strongly and continues to put himself firmly in the picture for snaps, potentially as the first edge defender off the bench. Jordan Morgan competing at multiple positions The Packers are keeping up their tradition of cross-training and rotating offensive linemen, with Jordan Morgan getting reps at left tackle and both guard spots so far. He had a difficult Family Night practice, but has received positive reviews from offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich for his play so far in camp. Whether he can unseat either Rasheed Walker or Sean Rhyan remains to be seen, but Stenavich indicated the team may well continue the battle into the regular season, with players rotating in and out of the starting lineup until a clear winner is established. Other notes Green Bay's kicker woes feel like a long time ago right now, as veteran Brandon McManus, fresh off being awarded a new contract with the Packers, has made almost every kick this summer. He is 36 of 37 so far. There have been no big injuries yet for the Packers, with MarShawn Lloyd and Emanuel Wilson dodging anything serious. Meanwhile Christian Watson continues to impress with how healthy he looks as he rehabs from an ACL tear. Javon Bullard has mostly continued to play in the slot on nickel downs, while Evan Williams starts at safety. Bullard will most likely be used as a swiss army knife again this year, moved around depending on the situation. The safety room will be tough to crack, but Omar Brown has put himself in the conversation with five interceptions, including three on Family Night. Luke Musgrave, now finally healthy, has seen his fair share of targets and has openly discussed his eagerness to improve his blocking as he looks to catch up to 2024 breakout tight end Tucker Kraft and become a prominent part of Green Bay's offense once again.
