"We believe that with the concerted effort of all parties, the Tianjin summit will be a gathering of solidarity, friendship and fruitful results, and the SCO will enter a new stage of high-quality development featuring greater solidarity, coordination, dynamism and productiveness," Guo said.
Guo said that leaders of over 20 countries, including all member states of the SCO and heads of 10 international organisations, will attend relevant events.

"The SCO Tianjin Summit will be the largest summit in scale since the establishment of the SCO," the spokesperson added.
Also, Indian Ambassador to China Pradeep Rawat on Friday met with Liu Jinsong, Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The two sides had a comprehensive and in-depth exchange of views on China-India relations and issues of common concern, said a press release issued by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
Modi is expected to embark on a visit to Japan around August 29, and after concluding the trip, he will travel to the Chinese city of Tianjin for the

.
There is no official confirmation yet on Modi's two-nation visit to Japan and China.
Modi last visited China in June 2018 to attend the SCO summit.
Chinese President Xi Jinping
visited India in October 2019 for the second "informal summit". However, the relationship came under stress due to the eastern Ladakh border face-off.
The military standoff in eastern Ladakh began in May 2020 and the clashes at the Galwan Valley in June that year resulted in a severe strain in ties.
The face-off effectively ended following completion of the disengagement process from the last two friction points of Demchok and Depsang under an agreement finalised on October 21 last year.
In the last few months, both sides revived the Special Representative dialogue on the boundary question and other dialogue mechanisms.
The decision to revive various dialogue mechanisms was taken at a meeting between Prime Minister Modi and President Xi at Kazan in Russia on October 23, 2024.
The Modi-Xi meeting came two days after India and China firmed up a disengagement pact for Depsang and Demchok.
The two sides also took a number of initiatives to rebuild the ties, which included the resumption of Kailash Mansarovar Yatra and New Delhi restarting issuance of tourist visas to Chinese nationals.
Both sides are also discussing modalities to resume direct flight services between the two countries.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and NSA Ajit Doval visited China in the last two months to attend the SCO meetings.
China is the current chair of the SCO.
It is not immediately clear whether PM Modi and President Xi will hold a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the SCO summit.
It is expected that Russian President Vladimir Putin will be among the top leaders who will participate in the SCO summit.
The SCO, comprising India, China, Russia, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Iran and Belarus, is an influential economic and security bloc that has emerged as one of the largest transregional international organisations.
It was founded at a summit in Shanghai in 2001 by the presidents of Russia, China, the Kyrgyz Republic, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
Pakistan became a permanent member along with India in 2017. Iran joined the grouping in 2023 and Belarus in 2024.

'Jhukna nahin hai': Minister Shivraj Chouhan tells farmers as India faces 50% US tariffs, ‘will explore new markets'

Union agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday asked farmers "not to worry" about the 50 per cent tariff India faces from the United States. Speaking at an event, the BJP leader assured that India will work to explore 'new markets' amid the "testing times" due to high tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump. The union minister reiterated PM Modi's statement and said that India will not comprise on the 'interests of the country's farmers even if it means paying a heavy price'.(Sansad Tv) Trump announced an additional 25 per cent tariff on India last week, citing purchase of Russian oil amid the Ukraine war. With this, the total tariff rate India faces increased to 50 percent. The first 25 per cent were imposed on July 30 by Trump due to New Delhi's tariffs 'being the highest in the world' and as a penalty for its purchase of Russian oil, military equipment and participation in BRICS. 'Will not compromise' The minister reiterated PM Narendra Modi's recent statement and said that India will not comprise on the 'interests of the country's farmers even if it means paying a heavy price'. "Farmers, don't worry. Let's see what will happen. We are a country of 140 crore people. There will be a little bit of difficulty but we will see. We will explore new markets. India is such a big market, it will be consumed here itself," said Chouhan while addressing a group of farmer leaders in Delhi. "India's 140 crore population is not a weakness but our strength," he said, adding that "this is our testing time and we need not bow down (before the US)". "Koi jhukne ka kaam nahin hai. Samjhauta barabari pe hota hai. Thode humare, thode tumhare (There is no need to bow down. The agreement should be between equals with give and take)," he said. The minister further noted that the US should keep the agriculture sector aside as there is no "fair comparison" in the scale of farm operations and farm holdings between India and the US. Following the announcement of the 50 per cent tariff on India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that the interests of farmers will remain a "top priority" for India. "India will never compromise on the interests of its farmers, dairy farmers and fishermen. I know I will personally have to pay a heavy price but I am prepared for it," said Modi. As India and the US work towards establishing a bilateral trade deal, agriculture has been a point of discord between the two nations. Based on reports, the US has insisted on access to agriculture, dairy and fishery sectors, against which India has put its foot down. (With inputs from PTI)

Realising the dreams of India's freedom fighters

Narendra Modi, after surpassing Indira Gandhi's record to become India's second-longest-serving prime minister (PM) in consecutive terms, will deliver his 12th address from the Red Fort on Independence Day. In the past 11 years, PM Modi has enabled India's tectonic transformation, both at the grassroot level and global stage. In 2022, speaking at the 125th anniversary celebrations of freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju in Bhimavaram, he said, 'New India should be an India of the dreams of freedom fighters who gave up their lives for our freedom.' Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose would have been proud of our modern self-reliant armed forces and the spectacular success of Operation Sindoor. (ANI Photo) Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose would have been proud of our modern self-reliant armed forces and the spectacular success of Operation Sindoor. Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar would have commended the government's ushering in of social justice with financial inclusion. Guided by the principle of antyodaya, governance under the present dispensation has lifted 25 crore Indians out of poverty, which would have been welcomed by Mahatma Gandhi. The abrogation of Article 370 and casting off colonial remnants with historic legislations like Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita would have been lauded by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Providing 94.3 core Indians with a social security safety net and empowering more than 14.5 crore small farmers with financial support would have won Rajendra Prasad's approval. C Rajagopalachari would have cherished the sacred sengol being given primacy in our new Parliament building. In 1971, when Patel, Ambedkar and Netaji were yet to be conferred India's highest civilian honour, the government headed by Indira Gandhi chose her for awarding the Bharat Ratna. Even the portraits of Netaji Bose (1978) and Ambedkar (1990) were installed in the Central Hall of Parliament under non-Congress governments. In 2003, the Leader of Opposition, Sonia Gandhi had written to President Abdul Kalam, stating, 'It will be a great tragedy if the Central Hall is utilised for installing the portrait of Savarkar'. The Congress party boycotted the event. In 2004, the UPA government removed the plaque in Andaman Cellular jail that commemorated Savarkar's nearly 11 years of imprisonment for combating the oppressive British regime. This plaque was then reinstalled in 2016. The continued smear campaign unleashed by Rahul Gandhi against Savarkar has been most appalling. Recently, the highest court of the land warned of taking suo motu action if Rahul Gandhi made any irresponsible statements against freedom fighters, observing that this is not the way we treat those who gave us freedom. Be it celebrating nationalist Tamil poet Subramania Bharati's birth anniversary as Indian Language Day or releasing a commemorative coin on Ahilyabhai Holkar's 300th birth anniversary, PM Modi has earnestly endeavoured to honour our patriots. In 2021, the Modi government declared November 15 as Jan Jatiya Gaurav Diwas, extolling the contribution of the tribal community in India's freedom struggle. The date marks the birth anniversary of Birsa Munda, the exemplary tribal leader, and Modi was the first ever PM to visit his birth place in Ulihatu village, Jharkhand. The visionary Bhim app for digital transactions is the present government's homage to Ambedkar's economic vision and five important places (panchteerth) related to Ambedkar's life, both in India and abroad, have been developed as centres of pilgrimage. PM Modi inaugurated world's tallest statue (the Statue of Unity in Kevadia, Gujarat) of Patel in 2018, and in 2021, dedicated the Kranti Mandir inside the Red Fort to museums paying tribute to Netaji's Indian National Army, India's first war of Independence in 1857, and the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. As the nation awaits PM Modi's Independence Day speech, without indulging in hyperbole, one can categorically say that Modi has brought about significant awakening and substantial awareness about our Independence struggle. He has also definitively integrated the dreams of our selfless freedom fighters to the goal of Viksit Bharat, or India as a developed nation, by 2047. RBI allows 'vostro' accounts to invest entire surplus in government securities

BENGALURU: India's central bank said on Tuesday foreign investors may invest the surplus balance in their so-called "vostro" accounts into central government securities . The holders of such accounts can invest in Indian government debt without registering as foreign portfolio investors, as overseas investors have to. However, the government slapped a limit of using only 30% of account balances to buy securities with residual maturity under one year, including treasury bills. Live Events Reuters reported in May that the central bank had sought the government's approval to remove this cap on foreign banks with vostro accounts to boost rupee-denominated investment and trade. The RBI has approved 123 correspondent banks from 30 trading partner countries to open 156 SRVAs with 26 Indian banks to promote bilateral trade in local currencies, a junior trade minister told Parliament earlier this year.
